I come from a hospitality background and generally have a good amount of expectations depending on the type of lodging I choose. Ben and I were looking for a quick getaway weekend while we celebrated our anniversary. Wanting to go up north and enjoy the quiet and the winter! We got it all here. From the moment we called and spoke with Dawn about our lodging options, to the arrival, to breakfast, the evenings, and check out, everything was top notch! Dawn is incredibly accommodating and personable. I could tell from the moment we spoke on the phone she was really wanting to make this a great weekend for us and she exceeded all expectations. We had full use of the B&B, a beautiful lakeside room with a private bathroom and patio, breakfast (which was to die for!), wood or gas fireplace use, coffee or tea 24 hours, and so much more. It truly was home away from home. Everything was so well kept and clean inside and out, food was phenomenal, snacks were available, the decor was a beautiful mix of classic and rustic, and as my fiancé was enjoying the football game Sunday she came out with a meat, cheese, and cracker platter which made him over the moon and was such an unexpected and wonderful touch. We truly did not want to leave this beautiful slice of heaven. You can tell from the moment you arrive the amount of work and pride that Dawn takes into the property and her business, and most of all her patrons. I cannot wait to make more memories here at the Birch Trail, and encourage anyone who is looking into this property to give it a try!

We pretty much were the only ones in our wing of the lodge and it was great. Great showers, great roomy room, and view of what would be a lake, but it was iced over. The room was nice and cozy warm too. It would have been nice to have a channel to know what we were watching but we were gone a lot. Room service was great too! Everyone there was super friendly and helpful. One thing, feedback wise, is maybe to put a door before the hallway where the rooms are. The voices echo in the lobby and we could hear them all the way down the hallway. A little thing, but we noticed it. We would definitely stay here again, it was delightful and a great find!!

The owner emailed us within 10 minutes of reserving online letting us know they would have a room ready. We were again greeted by the owner at check-in, and she could not have been more genuinely friendly. Our room was very clean, and the price was great. Not to mention hilarious! All three cottages are warm, cheerful and charming and located below the main lodge/bar/hotel on the shores of pristine Clear Lake. Swimming and fishing is the best you could ask for on this immaculate, private-owned gem. In addition to the cottage rentals they have 6 hotel rooms. Each room is uniquely decorated in "northwoods" style (loons, white-tail deer, fish). If you are a CLEAN-FREAK this is the place for you! Absolutely spotless. At the time of my last visit in 2007, 5 of the 6 units were still 2-room "suites" with kitchenette's. Perfect for small families or couples (sigh...wonderful memories). Their Beachcomber Lounge is a local favorite. It entertains both pool and dart tournaments and offers some of the best home-cooked food in the area. Steve makes and proudly serves the best cheese-cake EVER! Come for the "local flavor", joke-of-the-day, fish tales and just downright good fun. This place is a gem. We stayed in the Rustic River cabin and LOVED it. It had two bedrooms, two…read morebathrooms, a pull-out couch, a full kitchen, a fireplace, HD tv with satellite dish, very nice porch, A/C, and extreme proximity to a little pond and river (with fish for the catching, my husband and kids caugh-and-released a BUNCH). It was all decorated in the Northwoods rustic style, the kitchen had dishes/cups/silverware/spices/coffee filters, a regular microwave, full size fridge/freezer, and regular drip coffeemaker (not some ridiculous hotel coffee maker, I hate those things). We were very lucky to get this place for a night in between reservations and were sorry we couldn't stay longer. It's just a few miles outside of town, where you can (and we did) get groceries and some terrific fish fry easily. The owners are just across the driveway and were very friendly. They have a couple of dogs - the collie came over and visited us a few times (this was 100% okay with us, my middle son *loved* having a doggy friend for a day). Oh, there's a firepit and picnic table outside, too. This place was amazing. Just a little more than a hotel room, but with space to move and the sound of a babbling brook just outside the front door.
