There is a car park next to the venue, however it belongs to the offices near by so park there at your own risk. It strikes me as a good venue for artists and audiences alike. The artists can perform in an environment which allows for a certain amount of intimacy. There is a bar area which has seats, so if you prefer to be near the bar and watch the show you can, however there is a glass screen between the bar area and the main floor so what you would hear I don't know. The food they serve is to cater for a wide range of tastes, fish & chips, jerk chicken (which if you are like me needs some proper spice to it) and some salads. The portion size was good and i did not feel the need for desert, although nothing took my fancy!! They had the usual variety of wines, beers, sprits along with some cocktails. The time it took to get served was ok no long waits and it was packed. Its always nice to not have to go to the bar to order your drinks so the table service was very much appreciated!! As Craig M mentioned, squirrelled away off Brixton Hill is this gig venue that shows great music most nights of the week. They have a BBQ area outside and even though I didn't get to try it on that night, I bet their beer garden is ace in summer. The Windmill is a great place to discover new and upcoming artists. I've seen many bands here…read moreincluding Clem Snide, The Rumble Strips, John Vanderslice and Los Campesinos. Each one has been a memorable occassion. The summer weekend barbeques are a fantastic way of whiling away sunny days whilst listening to interesting artists. It's not the most attractive venue you've seen, and the pillar near the stage does obscure the view for people quite near the front, but these little things are part of the charm. The bar prices are fairly reasonable, and the odd combination of locals watching the football in one corner and some rising indie superstars playing in another is an enjoyable one.

The venue is located up the road from Brixton Station, so it's really easy to find. The main space has a very large standing area with a bar and DJ booth. Perhaps this is only true of the day that I was there, but the decor on the main floor was supremely plain. There is also a balcony, but I'm not sure if it has seating or not. It looked like standing only. The colorful balcony, on the other hand, was covered in gilded crown molding. According to the website, the capacity is 1700 people. If I was an artist, I would be nervous to perform in a space this size. It's not small enough for an intimate show, but it's too small to convey the power of a stadium show. Lucky for me, Rudimental's crazy live show energized the entire space. For future reference, I probably wouldn't see an R&B or old school singer here.

Couple this with the fact that they don't display set times and the bouncer refusing to tell me earlier in the night when walking past makes the cynic in me say that this is just another ruse to get you in earlier buying drinks whilst waiting and waiting for the show to start! You will get a warm Irish welcome from the moment you walk in. We were there to watch a match. The pub is a great venue for sports, having loads of screens around the bar so you will always be able to see whereever you are and a back room with a giant screen. In particular if you are looking to watch Irish sport, GAA or Munster rugby this is the place to go - for Munster fans this is the new South London base of the Munster Supporters Club. After the match was over we stayed on to enjoy the craic. The pub has a great beer garden and best of all the beer is cheap - two pints for less than £7, an absolute bargain!!! Later in the night there was a fantastic band who had us all up dancing. There was also a man selling oysters and guinness, of which we indulged more than we should have. Overall we had a fantastic night and I can't wait to go back again - highly recommended!

The Bad Good lord, get some more bar staff! You've got more bars than I have t-shirts! A couple more of the friendly staff on each bar and cloakroom would see those queues dissipate so much quicker. My main gripe about this place. The Ugly; Well bloomin' 'eck it's in Brixton ain't it. Try not to get shot, mugged or involved in low level drugs crime on your way home yeah?

Check the calendar to see what's going on. The music venue is upstairs from the bar, so buy your drinks and mosey on up. It's pretty cosy up there with a bunch of sofas and long high tables in the back. There's a cool balcony at the very back where people would go out and smoke. They have a good menu but it looked pricey, so I would recommend eating before you come.

With the lovely cafe downstairs spilling out onto the pavement, I've ignored it until now. But we checked it out this weekend and I've been missing out! Small, funky, intimate, with a wee stage on a mezzanine level. Plastered in movie posters, which I thought was a nice touch. Comfy seats to spend some serious time relaxing in, or the normal table and chairs for a quick one before a film. The regular events here tap into the local culture - some hip-hop, roots and reggae nights mixed in with comedy, open mic and even speed dating. See the listings poster for each month. I think this could be a great spot for a private party too.... just sayin'.
