THE WORST, LAZIEST, AND MOST DISHONEST business owner (BRUCE). Do yourself a favor and choose another vendor if you are installing a deck in the Pittsburgh area!!! This contractor installed a new deck in 2022 before I purchased my new house on Cranberry Township (Park Place). During my inspection, a safety hazard was noted and repairs were recommended. At least 2 of the deck planks were not secured appropriately and the edges were protruding up, creating a danger of tripping during normal use. The seller's agent provided me with the deck Contract which included a 10 year warranty on defects. I contacted Bruce (who I understand to be the owner of "decksunlimited") via text and he agreed to fix the defect/hazard. I then contacted him NUMEROUS times over the next month, attempting to schedule the repair and explaining my timeframe (as I still live out of state), giving him MORE than ample time to arrange the repairs but he NEVER responded to me again. I finally felt I had no other option but to arrange for someone else to make the repairs and I made arrangements with a handyman recommended by my real estate agent to make the repairs. He had to purchase a parts kit ($40) and charged $200 for the work which required him to remove numerous planks, saw them down, replace them, and secure them to the base. He informed me that the deck planks had clearly been installed incorrectly in that area and it appeared the contractor had "run out of materials" and had therefore finished that area without even bothering to secure the planks to the deck frame. He also stated that his repairs couldn't completely fix the problem because that would require the-doing that area of the deck but that at least the planks would now fit in a way that would not force the edges to stick up/higher than the rest of the planks. Due to the company's - Bruce's non-responsiveness and failure to schedule and/or make the repairs (or to even respond to me to schedule), and the fact that the defect was a safety/tripping hazard, I was left with no choice but to find and pay someone else to make the repairs. Because he refused to contact me to address and resolve this issue, it's clear that he doesn't care about repeat business or loyalty so my only option prior to taking legal action was to report him by fling claims with the PA Bureau of Consumer Protection and the Better Business Bureau. Deck installation was average. We have some minor warranty repairs and he's been ghosting us for over a month. We'll fix it ourselves or hire someone else. But I did want to warn others. read more

Bruce was great during the sales process. However once contract was signed and money was paid, it became very hard to get any update or answers. Repeated calls and texts with no response. I'm hoping the work will start soon. It's just unnecessarily stressful when you have a big project and your contractor treats you like a pest instead of a valued customer. Delays and severe lack of responsiveness. I think he's way overbooked. But it doesn't take much to just return a call or text or email. read more

This was a mistake from the beginning. Full disclosure, it's my own fault for hiring a deck company to do interior work. The owner Bruce responded to my basement remodel because he was interested in doing inside work during the winter. He seemed very knowledgeable during our initial meeting, and the price was right. You get what you pay for. The work involved 1) leveling a basement floor 2) installing a laminate floor 3) replacing the drywall and 40 installing a drop ceiling. The ceiling was installed, but the finished result had an open junction box with a live wire hanging from ceiling. He did fix upon my request. The floor was poorly installed, the floor leveling was not done properly so the laminate floor has numerous soft spots that sag and bend under foot. The drop ceiling in laundry room was glued to the supports, so I had to break them out to turn the gas back on after remodeling (they forgot to turn it on). When asked to fix, it was very sloppy. The floor was installed before the drywall (which I thought was odd, but didn't say anything). I was shocked when the floor was done and Bruce was ready to leave the job without doing the drywall - he "said we're not doing drywall". Of course I had my contract that showed that was part of the agreed work, but he had no recollection that was a part of the work to be completed. It took another week for them to complete this because they were scheduled elsewhere. When the workers were done with the drywall, all the electrical sockets and light switches were recessed by a half inch behind the drywall, and I had to call to have him come out to make the outlets flush. He did make the outlets flush, but 3 of 4 outlets didn't work and there were holes and gaps between the wall plates and drywall. Poor quality. Lastly, the mess they left was not acceptable. After they thought they were done with the job (but they forgot about the wall), there were two beer cans and food containers left around my basement, I had to clean that up. After work was done to fix all of the mistakes the first time, all of the clean-up was left to me (pieces of drywall, drywall dust, screws, plastic bags the outlets come in) All of the demolition materials were left in a pile behind my garage (contract didn't call for removal, also my fault for not checking prior). Basically, any clean-up was left up to me. Lastly, he didn't do a good job of checking with me before making decisions. He made a poor choice for a drain cover in the basement floor (he used a heating vent!), he cut the floor and installed it without ever checking with us, and now the floor now has a square hole over a round drain. It looks awful. As I said earlier, you get what you pay for. I should not have hired a deck contractor for inside work. I only write this in case someone else had the same idea. He may be great with decks, but interior work is not among his strengths. Absolutely would not recommend. Less read more
