Amazing! We had so much fun on this tour. The staff made it such a great experience, and they were very knowledgeable on all the history and wildlife around us! Warning!!! The address on Yelp took us to a spot in Anacortes near Fidalgo Bay, which is the wrong spot! You have to check in at their ice cream shop off Highway 20. If you drive towards Deception Pass bridge, you'll see it on your left hand side. Afterwards, you drive past Deception Pass, and head to Deception Pass Marina, which is where the boat will meet you. I tried to change the address to the ice cream shop, but for some reason, it keeps auto filling the current address on here. Other than that, this tour was lots of fun! This was an amazing tour. I got to see about 6 different animals up close. From the sales staff to boat tour guides all were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I thought i was going to get motion sickness due to the small boat it didn't happen. I highly recommend reserving online due to each sailing only holds about 26 individuals. To be able to travel under the iconic Deception Pass bridge and be on the swirling waters underneath is magical. Every trip we have taken is different. In the Pacific Northwest, there is decent history associated with the Deception Pass: the discovery of San Juan de Luca strait by George Vancouver, the initial misunderstanding by Vancouver's lieutenant Whidbey that it was a peninsula and not an island, the subsequent growth and development of the region as a fishing spot.This tour gives one a detailed background of that history, as well as sweeping vistas of the Pass, Orcas Islands, Whidbey Island with its Naval Air Station, along with the foothills of the Olympic range. The tour lasts for almost an hour and if you were lucky to get seats in the first two rows, the wind is not as strong because the boat has impressive power. Also, the tour does not begin at the location where you check-in so please be prepared to arrive at least 30-40 min ahead of appointed time. Although we were on schedule, heavy traffic on I-5 North caused a delay which required us to dash for the boat dock instead. As an estimate, folks traveling from downtown Seattle can arrive if starting at least 2.5 hours before. The tour guides are highly informative and patient. They also have spare jackets in case the wind is a bit too cold for comfort, which I thought was a nice touch. Water can get choppy as the boat heads to deeper places so make sure your footwear can give you a good hold. This is by no means a cruise so loafers or flipflops may not help much, even during summer. If the sun is out (we were unlucky to not have this privilege), the shallow hills and beautiful waters can form a picturesque background for that family album. Highly recommended. read more

Our family loves to go to Deception Pass. It is so beautiful there. When I was looking online for things my husband and I could do on an anniversary trip to Whidbey Island, I was thrilled to find there was a jet boat tour through Deception Pass. When I looked online, it appeared that there were no spots available at the time we needed them, but decided to call to check just in case. A very friendly voice answered my call. I was told there are only so many bookings available on Trip Advisor, but that there were still slots available for the time we wanted to go. We made the arrangements and I received an email confirmation shortly thereafter. We were very happy with the tour. The captain was friendly and capable. There was plenty of room, and when the boat slowed down we were able to stand up and take pictures. Our young guide was confident and informative. We enjoyed seeing seals, an eagle, porpoises, and a turkey vulture. We left with a greater appreciation of the Deception Pass bridge and its purpose. I highly recommend this tour! read more

The tour was a lot of fun. Bree was super friendly and informative!! I liked that the captain always told us when he was going to go fast so we sat down. It was great that they told us about the history of the little islands. I like the story of the mine cave, yikes I can't imagine having to do that! The only thing I didn't like was having to drive across the bridge ,go to the store get my tickets then go back over to the marina for the tour. I thought I could use the receipt on my phone. I cannot imagine a better whale watching experience. Within twenty minutes we had seen a gray whale!! We also got to see a humpback whale, six harbor seals, and a bald eagle. You definitely get what you pay for. They know how to find the whales with ease, and they get there faster than I thought possible! Their catamaran style boat also adds a bunch of fun to the trip. We went out on a choppy day, and zooming through the waves was a blast!!! I even got splashed a few times. If you're not interested in getting sprayed with sea salt, fear not: it's very easy to avoid, and the dry suits they provide keep you nice and warm. My only tip is to bring something to keep your ears warm. We went out in late July and my ears were still freezing. Also, if you have the choice between and AM and a PM trip, pick PM. They've had all day to find and track whales, so you're likely to get more bang for your buck. To top it all off, the experience was very intimate, with only about 20 people on board, and the crew was both professional and personable. Not to mention, there is a bathroom on board and they haven't had a seasick passenger yet! If you want whales, a personable experience, and an exciting boat ride for a strangely low price, this is exactly where you need to be. read more

We were having a picnic at Deception Pass State Park, at the water's edge, enjoying a beautiful late afternoon, and the sounds of the sea, when along came this very nice young man and asked if we wanted to take a ride on this catamaran-style speed boat along the pass. We politely declined, telling him that it wasn't possible because we would never leave our dogs in the car and we had no one they could stay with. Then, lo and behold, he said the magic words, "It's okay...the dogs can come." What? We get to ride on a cool boat AND the dogs can come! That did it, we were in. We loaded onto the boat with the other passengers. Being so late in the afternoon (the Sun would soon be setting) the boat was not full of people, so the dogs were able to sit on the seat between us. They did very well. And they weren't the only dogs on the boat. The boat tours around, and stops so you can see different things. And, if you are lucky, and we were, you can see porpoises. The crew was very nice, and informative. And, we all enjoyed the unplanned excursion. The only thing I would do different is to bring a jacket, because even in the summer, this area gets cold, especially when you are travelling in a very fast open boat. But my bottom line is that any boat that lets us take our dogs on the tour gets 5 stars from me. That's all. read more

Never even knew this existed until they did a groupon and what do you know I always wanted to go on a tour of deception pass. Its a good excursion to learn a little about the area and get out on the water on a jet boat. Tour is only an hour so it goes by fast even on a cold day. Tour guide tries very hard to keep passengers entertained and has put together an interesting bit of information about the area. It is definetely very pretty out here and its amazing to see how fast the curents are. Saw some eagles and seals, kayakers, hikers and learned about the islands nearby. June 2009 I went on the Deception Pass Jet Boat tour. Loved it and had the best time of my life. We saw porpoises and a harbor seal. March 2012 my daughter was visiting from Milwaukee, WI. We took the Oak Harbor whale watching tour. OMG the weather started our stormy, big swells and black seas. An hour later, sunny beautiful and we saw whales. A fun way to enjoy the beautiful scenery of deception pass. Our tour guide was funny, friendly and knowledgeable. Tour takes one hour. Take a sweater as its a bit chilly. If you take a hat make sure it secures firmly or it'll blow off. They take pictures on board, $20 for two with plastic frame. We worked a deal, $10 for one and $10 for the tip. A negative was we bought our tickets on the phone but had to pick them up near the bridge where the traffic is very heavy before heading to the water/dock where the boat picks up. Fairly inconvenient. Overall a fun and beautiful excursion. read more

This tour was so fun! The Captain and First Mate were great and they spotted a grey whale we were able to see. That was an added bonus. The water between Fidalgo and Whidbey islands was flowing at a rate that created a whirlpool effect (apparently this only happens with a certain tide effect) and our boat was able to spin in this whirlpool! This was a delightful experience! The staff was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable, and all in all I very much enjoyed the tour. Saw a bunch of great things, heard a bunch of new facts, and explored a completely new area. I really liked how the tour guides came around with specimens and props to increase some audience interaction. They also played some upbeat music as they picked up speed. I love when tours spice things up a little--and they do just that. The only thing was that it was really long. I mean maybe I'm just not as adventurous as everyone else, but it's one of those things that I find would bring me a diminishing marginal utility. The first hour is exciting--"Where are the whales? Oh! A sealion! A bald eagle! I saw the dorsal hump! The fluke! Nice!" But then, as time goes on, it gets to the point where I'm starting to get cold, I've seen the same whale poke his head out 20 and blow 20 times, and I daydream about getting back on land. All in all, it was a good time. I'm sure I'll have much more of a blast once it gets warmer. Great first whale watching experience. read more

We purchased the season pass for the boat tour. Killer deal. Whenever we had nothing to do we hopped on the boat and took a hour cruise. We went probably 8 times this season and each tour was different. Some elements were the same but they keep it fresh. Seen all kinds of wildlife including eagles and whales, seals and more! The tour was fantastic! Me and my boys had a blast and want to go again. The tour guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. The one issue I had was that when buying online it instructed me to go to one place for the tour, and when I got there, was told I have only fifteen minutes to get to some second location that was difficult to find AND COSTS TEN DOLLARS TO PARK THERE. I had two kids in tow with me that were very disappointed they couldn't get ice cream at the first place. Great tour, but they need to tell customers before they purchase what the process is and that they have to pay extra to park. read more
