They made a delicious breakfast for us the next morning and sat and chatted with us for little while we ate. Everything was very clean and tidy. Loved all the decor, very cute place. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Washington that is close to downtown I recommend staying with Art and Kathy!

The greeting included an orientation to the beautifully restored historical home and grounds. We then embarked on a personally guided tour of downtown's quaint shops, restaurants and museum. All of these gems are conveniently located to the Brick Inn. My room was very clean and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very peaceful and relaxing, with a private bath. I woke to a wonderful service of hot coffee outside my door. A delicious and nutritious breakfast, with fruit and vegetables fresh from the farmers market was served in the private patio garden. As a woman traveling alone, I took great comfort knowing that the owners are on site. The bedroom was secure with a deadbolt lock which I had a key to. The amenities, the food and the service were all first rate. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Brick Inn and look forward to my next stay.

The B&B is around 150 years old and has 3 rooms - we stayed in Suite #2, which also has a sauna. The owners, Lynn and Bob, are very friendly and so hospitable. We felt welcomed from the instant we pulled into the drive. The breakfast the next morning was amazing: a wonderful fruit assortment, caramel sticky buns, and a mouth watering egg strata. I also appreciated their flexibility in easily accommodating my vegetarian diet. Apple Gate Inn is also within a block of the Katy Trail and a stone's throw from Augusta Brewing Co.

The whole place is very nicely decorated! Outside there are some tables gathered and would be a lovely place to relax in the evening for non mosquito delicacies. I was only out for a short while but still a lucky sucker got the sweet sweet taste. Breakfast was a real experience. It was such a shame that we had to leave relatively early. The tasty food seemed to just keep coming. It was nice to meet the other guests and the lady who runs the B + B is such a nice enthusiastic person she lifts everyone's spirits! I'll be back, more than once I'm sure!

Hoefel Haus is as advertised, quaint, charming, beautifully detailed. I had no idea what to expect when we were booked there while performing at a local fundraiser. In honesty, I didn't end up staying, as i have family in the area. The rooms certainly look spacious and comfortable, but again, I can't speak to that. So let me get to what I absolutely CAN discuss, the most important word in the HOSPITALITY industry. My first interaction with Kurt and Peggy was a messy affair I personally created. By withdrawing from the booking, I made our party 2 instead of 3. However, one of the acts (we're stand-up comics) had a guest. In under 30 seconds, Kurt accommodated us without a hiccup or a sniffle. My plan was to meet the guys in the morning, and treat them all to breakfast. Kurt told me they hadn't planned on the meal, but would happily prepare something for us. This is where the true difference became evident. Kurt and Peggy were outstanding hosts, not merely presenting us with a scrumptious egg and sausage scramble, but regaling us with the most engaging and delightful conversation, in which they basically told us who they were in an hour. I have rarely been made to feel so immediately comfortable with strangers, but their passion, as well as the obvious pride they take in both of their properties smashed any social barriers with the gentlest velvet glove. My one regret was that they wouldn't allow us to pay for the meal, which i thought was the least we could do to repay the booking reshuffle, but they wouldn't hear it. If you are in the area, whether for the wine country or the biking along the Katy trail, do yourself a favor and stay with friends you haven't yet met.
