Hamilton just wrapped up its second tour through Atlanta, August 25-September 26, 2021. My wife…read morepurchased tickets on December 24, 2019 for the Sunday, April 12, 2020 7:00pm show at The Fox Theatre. After various charges and fees, two tickets to the show plus parking nearby cost $356.45 or $178.23 per person. We were originally seated on the main level in the Orchestra section, Row CC, Seats 64-66 (not sure why the confirmation email said seats "64-66" since that looks like three seats).
"Thanks" to COVID, our seats were improved to Row AA, Seats 113 and 114, right next to the Curtain B aisle. We also got lucky in that no one ever sat in the two seats directly in front of us for what otherwise appeared to be a sold-out show. The Fox has a seating capacity of 4,665. Due to COVID, our show was delayed to Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 7:30pm, a 17-month delay.
The wait was worth it. I've been to numerous musicals, from Broadway in New York (The Secret Garden) to the West End in London (Blood Brothers) to several local shows like Oklahoma! at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Hamilton at The Fox in Atlanta is the best musical I've been to, hands down.
I'm just one of millions of people to say this, but Lin-Manuel Miranda is a genius. Hamilton was unlike any musical I'd seen before in terms of style, content, messaging, and complexity. Previously, a musical hadn't captivated me like Hamilton did. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. The show was spectacularly entertaining in all facets. The writing/lyrics and delivery blew my mind. It was so original, creative, and educational. A great example of the latter is the rap battle between Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson about Hamilton's plan to establish a national bank. It was absolutely ingenious.
My wife has listened to the Hamilton soundtrack for years and I caught bits and pieces of the New York show when she watched it on Disney+ last summer (July 2020), so I was somewhat familiar with the work. However, it wasn't until I watched the show in its entirety at The Fox that it truly opened my eyes and showed me what all the hype was about. Hamilton is worth it. It's outstanding.
Props to the entire Atlanta minority cast who did an amazing job including Pierre Jean Gonzalez as Alexander Hamilton, Stephanie Jae Park as Eliza Hamilton, Jared Dixon as Aaron Burr (he and The Fox Theatre liked my tweets about the show: https://twitter.com/TD2timeMVP/status/1440810887820890116), Ta'Rea Campbell as Angelica Schuyler, Marcus Choi as George Washington, Warren Egypt Franklin as Thomas Jefferson, and Neil Haskell as King George III. The latter two were absolutely hysterical. I love those King George show tunes.
My wife pre-paid for parking in the Orange Deck at 715 Peachtree St NE. The entrance to the deck was on Juniper. It cost only $12 and was only a block away from the theater. On our way to park, we passed a parking entrance on 3rd St NE that was charging $40. Masks were required inside The Fox and everyone I saw complied. There was no social distancing and it was a packed house. Just take a look at my pictures. Being fully vaccinated, we felt safe enough.
