Dear Prudence opened in 2000 in the 2800-2900 block of Corrine Drive called the Audubon Park Garden District. This area may well be the coolest part of Orlando. Along this strip you will find a funky mix of unique and independent businesses including the East End Market, Park Ave CD's, craft beer, the Lovely Boutique Market, and Dear Prudence. I was drawn into Dear Prudence by a Wednesday Adams inspired outfit they had displayed outside. Inside is a beautifully laid out boutique with a fascinating mix of vintage inspired clothing, accessories, and gift items. Some of the clothing was new and some pieces were gently used. I loved the ethereal skirts, flirty dresses, and lacey blouses. The whimsical jewelry also caught my eye, especially the Old World Style Cameo necklaces ($24.00). I anticipated the prices to be higher but when I checked tags everything was quite reasonable. I was solo at the time but the next time I come to Orlando I plan on taking my daughter shopping here. I know she would love this store too. If you can't make it to Orlando you can shop their online store for accessories and they offer free shipping in the United States. I didn't see the clothing they offer in the store in the online shop. Dear Prudence was fun to check out and is perfect for anyone who favors a vintage look. read more

This adorable shop always has things I want to buy. It's an eclectic mix of clothing, accessories, house deco, and other randomness. I've gotten a cat themed dress here and a mug for my sister. Staff is always friendly and very knowledgeable about their products. They usually have a sale rack outside, so be sure to check that out. It's a smaller location and very boutique like, so the overall vibe is cozy chic. There are tons of things to look at despite the side of the store though, so don't let the outside fool you! 4 Stars for a cute shop with pretty clothes, tons of beads, and accessories that will fill your shopping bag! The first thing you notice when you walk in to this shop are the beads. You can spend hours going through the neatly organized little piles of beads and clasps and create a custom piece of jewelry that matches your style perfectly. Or, if you're like me and somewhat design-challenged, you can make use of the pre-made necklaces and score the look without the creative anxiety. The clothes they sell are on the girly, cute side. But the stuff that really caught my attention was their locally-inspired screen printed tees. I picked one up with a prominent Florida design painted across the front and have already had compliments! Local shirts are on trend right now and their prices were very reasonable. In terms of service, the gentleman at the register offered help and was very friendly yet not pushy while I sloooowly made my way across the shop. He is one of the owners and seemed really genuine and kind and reminded me of the sale rack out front that had similar dresses to the ones I was trying on. I also love the fact that they're responsive outside of the physical shop. My sister wanted a custom necklace engraved and was able to communicate with the owner on social media to make it happen. Kind of a cool little shop full of knick knacks and jewelry supplies. What drew us (me, my fiancée and a friend) in were the celebrity candles, some of which were absolutely hilarious. I also planned to buy some essential oils and a nice geode I had seen. The reason I didn't buy anything and will not ever be going back is because as soon as we stepped in the store, my fiancée and friend parted directions with me and started looking at some other stuff. As soon as I was alone the guy behind the counter started following me, pretending to be organizing things on the shelves while watching me out of his peripherals (when I was looking, when I wasn't he wasn't even trying to be sly about it) as if I were going to steal anything. I get this a lot because I have a good amount of tattoos...I've invested over 15k in my body, I make great money and I don't need to steal. I don't appreciate being treated this way especially in a seemingly progressive establishment. This store is just another product of gentrification. Being a white guy, it makes me wonder how they treat POC when they come in... Do NOT support. I never thought that I'd find another store like the jewelry store in I encountered in Brooklyn! Oh how ecstatic I was when I stumbled upon Dear Prudence. Nestled in a simple strip mall in Winter Park, Dear Prudence is a blessing in disguise. As a fashion designer, my absolute favorite store concept is the DIY (obviously.) I like to take control of everything and it is spectacular how Dear Prudence makes it so easy. The concept is simple, choose your gems and they will make it for you. They have everything from necklaces to rings to earrings and low and behold, they even do wire wrapping!!!! Come with ideas or inspiration because there are MANY choices and your inner Aziz will become overwhelmed. The prices are great. Most of the charms and beads for about $1-$5. There is a $5 set up fee, but it all ends up being EXTREMELY affordable for beautiful custom made jewelry. The artist that helped me was a delight. She was extremely patient and helpful. She did tell me that they are trying to transition away from the concept, so come and design while you can! I will DEFINITELY be back. I've gotten into trouble on two separate visits to D Pru; I check out and then I find other things I want to buy! What a charming shop at Audubon Park! I haven't even gotten to the beads yet because I find so much more there I want to take home. Jewelry, clothing, etc. It's all for the wonderful taking here. A small shop you may miss on your next visit but take a moment and support the "little guy" as vendor. The prices are almost as appealing as the merchandise. After stopping by the very cool antique shop in the same complex, I popped into this place because of the curb appeal. Unfortunately, their customer service is nonexistent. The girl behind the counter doesn't acknowledge anyone who walks in, no matter how long they stay. It's a shame, because the shop is cute with a number of items I would ordinarily have purchased (an amethyst crystal, a black dress, a rose quartz ring). read more

I loved this little bead/gift shop and will be back the next time I need a gift or decide to pick up the artsy hobby of beading. It was full of creative ideas and neat items ready to be purchased. Portal greeting cards (the ones with the photographs) were on display along with many delightful home accessories such as luggage tags, wine glass charms, car charms, candles, incense, picture frames and great scarves. Being that we live in Florida, the scarves weren't too heavy yet very stylish and wearable. The purses and jewelry on display were my favorite items to look at though. Reasonably priced and very chic, I could have taken them all home with me in a second. The sale shelves were stocked too if you needed to stick to a budget. This is also where I noticed their collection of the ever-popular toy, Webkinz. As far as beading goes, they have devoted the back portion of the store entirely to this activity. Four or five tables are setup for special beading/jewelry-making parties or for private lessons. Women's only gatherings along with birthday parties are held here and food and wine brought in. They will even help you create your first item without having any experience if you happened to come alone. And to promote their earrings, they do piercings for $15 with the earrings included. It's an overall adorable, cozy and quaint place chocked full of special items. My Aunt recently had a birthday party at The Bead Lounge. This is a very creative and bright shop on Corrine Dr. near Bumby. Not really a place that I would frequent but I found it to be really interesting. Rows and rows of beads of every shape, size, color, style, quality surround a floor of tables that groups of mainly women and their children work diligently on their own bead creations. They even have classes if you want to learn how to "bead", or they will custom make jewelry which I thought was cool because my girl's birthday is coming up and it isn't that expensive. read more

This store was confusing. It says "Prudence" something on the awning. It begins "American something" online with the subtitle of "Bead Lounge". (I note this for those like we, who drive long distances scavenging bead stores.) It might be best described as a store within a store. The bead part makes up a corner of it and vintage clothing makes up the rest. The store was empty mid-day and the one young clerk seemed to care less that customers were in the store. She did not look up much from her book, seated at a table. She did answer questions if we disturbed her. Had she tried harder, she would've made a sale. They had some nice-looking premade jewelry in their cases, by someone who was talented . They had some unique beads and findings. No return trips planned here but locals might find the stop worthy for a snoop. read more

This store is combined with the store Sweet (a womens clothing store that was next door). Its cute. The bead part is very cool because they have so much to choose from to make jewerly or premade jewerly that is funky and ecletic....stuff you cant see at other places. The back half of the store is the clothing part. I've been there twice since they combined the two. I liked the selection of clothes at Sweet. Not sure if it is because of the bigger space or maybe I just dont like the selection of clothes this season...maybe I'll look in on them in the fall. I am absolutely in LOVE with this shop! For the past year this has been my go-to place for affordable dresses and outfits for any occasion. I recently went there searching for a dress for my husbands graduation party and the owner was working during the day. She was the absolute sweetest lady ever! Every time I have been here, the store associates have been so sweet and more than accommodating. They have a great selection that rotates out quite often and accessories to match! I also go there when I need a gift for any of my friends (female of course). I am sure the bead store does pretty well too, but I am not into that sort of thing. I went back today to give this shop a second chance, and while I am still in love with the merchandise they offer, the same girl was working and she was still absolutely terrible. I came in with a friend of mine and we were followed in by another couple. She did not acknowledge or greet any of us, just sat behind the counter and texted the entire time. All four of us began selecting items and going into the dressing rooms to try on. Not even at this point when we were clearly interested in purchasing things did she get up to offer assistance or check in. I was perusing the beads and jewelry for quite some time and she never even looked up even when I was directly in front of her -- not only poor customer service, but terrible loss prevention! At any given moment I could have pocketed any of the jewelry that she clearly didn't care about selling or protecting. Despite finding items that we really liked, my friend and I ultimately left empty handed because we felt so unwelcome. The other couple made a purchase which we overheard and the service was absolutely minimal. Again, really loving the products offered here and they're all at very extremely fair prices, but the service is so disappointing I hesitate to spend my money here when there are so many other quality vintage and vintage-inspired retailers in the area. read more

Pros- Love the idea. Had a million beads to choose from. The owner (perhaps she was the owner, she seemed to know what was going on) was very helpful. I came up with a necklace that I really enjoy. You lose track of time FAST! You can make necklaces, earrings, bracelets - whatever you want! Baldwin Park area so it is pretty. Also, its next to other interesting stores. Cons- The hours are early. They close at four I believe. Biggest complaint is customer service. They didnt try to help you unless you asked. I came in and they didnt say how to do anything. I just wandered up to the beads and looked.. Then I found out that you pick the beads and they actually make the necklace, whatever you want, etc. It appears to be family run and the "mom" only knew what to do. The man didnt appear to be interested - I asked if my beads went together and he said "Oh, you cant really go wrong" and continued talking to whoever he was talking to when I was trying to get him to come help me. The daughter was a teenager so she had no idea how to help besides add up the cost of each bead. I remember the owner saying things like "Dont drop it" and things like that. I think they started the place and dont really like working there anymore. It probably is annoying. People kept asking "can you help me do this" every five minutes. The customer service was so bad that I googled other places and found them. I dont think I will go back. If you dont know how to work with jewlery, its important that you get help and there was only one lady who knew what she was doing out of three people. read more

Well done. Sweet Boutique and The Bead Lounge have come together to create one of my favorite places in the coolest part of town. Now I not only can pick up a great top or dress, but I can match it to jewelry and accessories instantly -- without going to a mall. I can't tell you how many gorgeous, and amazingly LOW-PRICED, dresses, tops, and gifts I've bought here. The owner is a doll and she hosts these great "girl's night out" parties where you can bring your own wine and food and make your own jewelry. And she'll help you every step of the way. Really fun. for years I had frequented and harked my glee over this shop. the last few times I have gone over the last couple of years, I have found that the owner is there more and more. my feeling of welcome has diminished GREATLY. she is snooty and rude. each time I still bought things. my money contributes to her rent, employees, ins. etc...and she acts like she could care less and if she had it her way, she'd rather pick and chose her clientele. my nieces, friends, sisters, etc have all benefitted from the unique gifts and beads I have created out of this shop. I think this is going to have to stop and I think I will have to take my business to New York st. across from Gary salon is a VERY unique shop that supports women globally as well as ten thousand villages. The owner should be living the example of great customer service but instead, she is making this shop one that I may have to keep driving pass. read more
