I asked my hubby if he wanted to start going again as I had found a room at Tapoco Lodge. Our big joke was it's the *Bougie place*! Well it is bougie where we are from, but it's also comfortable, calm, and very restful when coming back from hot rides with Miatas! From the beautiful Azalea Room to the fantastic eateries and bars in the hotel, you feel pampered and special! Our room was wonderful and there was not only in room coffee, but you could pop downstairs and get a to go cup of hazelnut coffee, tea or hot chocolate! We were cool after a long day, we could pop down for a drink or get some food and not have to leave. Best of all, we personally thought it was quiet. We actually got some decent sleep, which really never happened at Fontana. The mattress and sheets were very comfortable! My only regret would be we really didn't get to use and explore the property as we were at an event. I would recommend Tapoco Lodge to anyone looking for a special experience to enjoy their time, be it a honeymoon or going to the Dragon to ride! It's fantastic!

The Blue Boar Retreat has a large industrial kitchen (perfect for large-scale cooking that Thanksgiving requires, a large dining area, another large common space, and eight spacious individual rooms. Each individual room had its own bathroom and sitting area, and some rooms had 2 queen beds and others 1 king bed. Before we arrived, we thought there were separate mini-cabins on the property, but each of the eight rooms are connected by a long, wide hallway. Despite the proximity, we didn't hear any noise coming through the walls from the next room. There is also a huge patio area and fire pit for use out the back. There are other cottages nearby, but we never really crossed paths with anyone. Lake Santeetlah is a half-mile walk down Blue Boar Road and there are kayaks available for use. Dogs are allowed at the lodge, and they loved having the freedom to run around all over the property. Overall, a perfect place for family gathering. We had 18 of us (14 adults, 4 kids) and there was plenty of space for us. Blue Boar Retreat is on the top of our list for our next Thanksgiving gathering in 2021.

Right from the start we were greeted by Rosa who immediately made us feel right at home with her warmth and humor. Chef Andrew is an incredible talent. Everything was just extraordinarily delicious! We started with a very yummy chili with cornbread followed by the best pork belly we have had with a yummy almond butter sauce (lord!!) and then finished it off with perfectly cooked flatiron steaks with yummy cowboy butter! Oh and Chef even brought us some crispy cilantro rice that was also just a masterpiece of flavors. I don't know how many times I stopped during our meal to exclaim "this is SO GOOD" ....but it was many. That was the food- the people and service were as if not more impressive. Taz, the innkeeper who served us was incredibly kind and friendly and even brought us a complimentary champagne toast, which was so nice and appreciated! Again Rosa was hilarious and so sweet to us and then we met Shannon who brought us our desserts at the end of our meal and also made us feel like old friends. It was so over the top good that I feel we will be forever spoiled! We definitely will be coming back to stay. Many thanks again

Sorry to say, the place felt sad, understaffed, customer service did not feel happy or enthusiastic. We waited for 15 minutes to get a drink at the bar and no one came, we had to go looking for them. The lodge felt unloved and in disrepair despite the number of cars in the parking lot. All the bird feeders were empty, pealed paint. It all felt neglected. The food was good but expensive at $75 per person. I think management needs to give this old historic lodge some greatly needed TLC. Unfortunately, we don't be back until then.

I booked a room in the Lodge and check in was super far where the Lodge was. You have to drive all the way down to the front. Follow the signs!! It was alittle confusing at first. The Lodge room is like a hotel so that's why I picked it. I did not want a cabin or mini house in the area as they offer other kinds of rooms. The room was nice. This place can work on their house keeping and cleanliness of the lobby area. They keep their front doors and all doors open so it doesn't not have the best security. So definitely keep your room doors locked. There is a restaurant called Hazel's which I did not try but will next time I stay here. I can't wait to come back again!

Parking's an issue if you're arriving when the bistro is open. We were always able to find a space, but sometimes not near the cabin. Roomy living space, couch, several more upholstered chairs, dining table. Wood burning fireplace (in season). Smartest TV I've seen in a hotel room. Most every streaming service you could think of, and when one wasn't there, it was a breeze to download and add. Full kitchen, basic plates, glasses, silverware. Paper towels provided. Microwave, oven, toaster, dishwasher, full fridge. A few ice trays. If you plan to do your own cooking, plan to take anything more you need. Roomy bathroom, walk in shower, great water pressure. Bed was wavy when moving, so a little partner disturbance, and wife complained it was not great on her back. Ok, but could use a refresh. Daily service as you need; leave a card with what you'd like checked each morning on the door. Overall an excellent place to stay in Townsend. Enough issues that for the price, we may look around a bit before returning.

We would have loved to have stayed longer but we considered ourselves lucky to get a room at all during the peak Fall season. We stayed in Room 9 which is on the third floor loft with an interesting pitched ceiling but no windows. The room was great for afternoon napping and it was just footsteps away from the rooftop deck. For a longer stay we would have probably preferred a room on the second floor with windows. I love American history, architecture and Americana so staying in this old circa 1904 bank was fabulous. We even took a peak at the old bank vault that is now used as a wine cellar and pantry inside the restaurant. The hotel staff here is top notch. Everyone was so welcoming and I appreciate that the hotel called before our stay to see if we wanted to make a reservation in The Bistro. The Bistro is a small, quaint, refined restaurant that books full for its dinner service so it's nice that they make sure hotel guests have an opportunity to book first. Our dinner in the Bistro was fabulous - I had the filet while my husband had the Ettouffee. We also had breakfast at The Bistro the following morning which was also very good. In addition to the five-star staff and cozy room, we loved the location of The Everett Hotel. It was walking distance to everything in town including shops, restaurants and the train station. It was also a short drive to Smoky Mountain National Park. As an added bonus, it is right next door to the Swain County Heritage Museum. We were conveniently able to park behind the hotel. Other conveniences we appreciated were the filtered water and coffee in the hallway. A special shoutout to Daniel who made us feel so welcomed.
