We went through the Tail of the Dragon, stopping here as we got out (went from north end to south). Didn't stay at resort but did go to gift shop and eat at the cafe. Food was good, reasonable prices. Tight parking for vehicles, lot of bikers. read more

You can get gas here, but there are only a few pumps and they're usually pretty busy. Inside you will find all of your Dragon touristy needs. Lots of shirts, stickers and so on. Limited restrooms, but they do have a little grill open. Everything on the menu is pretty expensive. It's a long haul for suppliers to get them their goods though so don't be too upset about it. Make sure to check out the Tree of Shame where bikers hang their wrecked bike parts. read more

I've been to the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort multiple times over the past 20 years. It ain't fancy but it's not supposed to be. As the name says, it's primarily a motorcycle place, in the middle of nowhere. The food is good, the rooms are clean, the air conditioning is cold, and the showers have hot water. Oh, and the people are friendly. No more, no less, which is why it's perfect the way it is. read more

Fun place to stay you will enjoy your neighbors didn't meet anyone that wasn't having a good time. The staff is helpful and friendly. Rooms are spartan but clean and quiet nice hot and cold water fit the reason to be there. Food is reasonable not fancy breakfast is only meal I needed good coffee eggs bacon sausage pancakes biscuits gravy oatmeal. It will get ya going. One of the neighbors described it best ya got bike and car show and a great place to start a ride. Life is good. I will return. read more

I booked a week stay at this Resort in December of 2023 for the week of June 10th through the 14th of 2024. I had some extensive medical issues that have caused me to not be able to make this event. I had to cancel and I canceled in March which is plenty of time to get a refund. I informed the proprietor of the establishment that I no longer had the bank account that I used to pay for the deposit. I asked them if they could just send a check. They said no. They would have to initiate a refund to me using the original debit card and once the money bounced back because the account was closed they would issue a check. The refund was allegedly issued and my former bank allegedly never returned the money. I contacted my former bank and asked them to run a trace and they did and they said to me that the money was never sent to them. I have been in contact with management at this Resort and pleaded with them to give me a check for my refund and they have so far not done it. I will never use this establishment again because in my opinion they still owe me $410 and change. I have contacted them a couple of times over the last couple weeks and have heard nothing but crickets. They originally were in touch with me and working with me and even said they would send me a check, although they made me feel like I was stealing the money from them by the comments that were made about them being out the money. I'm the customer, I told them before they issued the refund that the account was closed and requested them send me a check, they said no, so how is this my fault? read more

Rolled through here a couple of weeks ago on my way home from Austin (I was taking the long way, because home is in Florida, and when you look at a map you realize that going this way is a bit silly). It was very early in the season, and it turned out there was no one else on Deal's Gap that day... I saw one other bike on the road, and a couple of cars, and that was it. It turned out to be a great ride! Stopping here is a nice thing to do, though, as it gives you a break from the road. Walking through the place, you will find that there are a lot of T-Shirts and other memorabilia for sale, as well as a snack bar where you can pick up some lunch if you want. I did just this, ordering a cheeseburger and some fries. The burger was alright, but nothing really to write home about, and the attitude of the folks behind the snack bar was lackluster at best. Their attitude was not one that enticed me to ever order there again, and I probably won't. Better to go down the road thirty miles to some other place. There are some interesting things going on here though. I have never stayed at the hotel, but it seems like a prime place to stay if you are planning on spending a weekend here riding Deal's Gap. One time through in a day is enough for me (oddly, I have only ridden this road from West to East, never in the other direction). The tree of shame stands, displaying the pieces and parts of various vehicles that did not quite make it through the Gap. Worth looking at to give you some sobering memories prior to riding the road, as it is a dangerous one that is very unforgiving. I also fueled up here. Fortunately I do not have a huge fuel tank, and filling it with premium (the only fuel available) once in a while is not a bad thing... but the price of the fuel here is raised, and you will pay a premium for it (I paid $3.29 a gallon, when normal prices were in the range of $2.50 a gallon). If you have a big tank (like a car or something) consider only filling it with enough fuel to get to a gas station with reasonable prices. read more

We were here to produce a video of deals gap and, seeing as how it was the only place near bye to get lunch and we were starving, we decided to give it a try. For what it is - a middle of nowhere motorcycle walkup restaurant - it wasn't too bad. So maybe I ought to give it another star. And maybe I ordered the wrong thing which was Chicken Wings. Now I probably haven't experienced the best wings on earth but, let me tell you, these were definitely not them. Halfway through eating my meal I almost lost heart and gave up entirely, which is rare for me. Still I persisted. "What was wrong with them?" you might be asking. For one, they were very greasy, but shame on me for being surprised at that because most everything on the menu comes generously bathed in some kind of oil. Secondly, the flavor was meh. Thirdly, afterwards I felt like I had just eaten a lead weight. Everything else about it was fine. The workers didn't seem to care whether or not we were there, but they were polite enough. I liked all the shirts that were displayed on the ceiling above. So there's that. read more

We stayed at this motel for one night to be close to the Tail of the Dragon- and there is no better location!!!! The price was great and the room was nice and clean. There was a plastic cover over the mattress which made the bed a little bit uncomfortable. We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was very good. However the restaurant closed at 6PM, which made no sense to us. We had to eat early because there is nothing else in the area- the closest town was about 15-18 miles away!!!!! Also there was no wifi. We thought it was very odd considering we were in a place with no cell service. Also the people working at the front desk of the motel/store were kind of rude and unhelpful. Regardless, we had a nice time because of the tail of the dragon and got to meet some great people. read more

We booked an apt from the 8th-11th of Oct. and the Deals Gap Motorlodge far exceeded our expectations. The staff to Jud the General manager were all very kind, professional, and accommodating. There was even a mini-50's motorcycle race Saturday night (9Oct) in the parking lot that was very entertaining (Jud the manager won race. He's an aggressive racer). We most definitely will be booking another stay with the Deals Gap Motorlodge next year. read more

This place is nothing more than a tourist trap staffed with the rudest cashier in the pub I've ever met. After an amazing ride on the Tail of the Dragon my wife and I stopped for some lunch with my service dog. We were rudely told no dogs allowed. I explained that he was a service dog and got nothing but a blank stare. She then proceeded to tell me that my service dog could have no water while inside. We started to order and the rudeness got even worse. My wife and are are 51 and 46 but we still had to produce ID for drinks. I said I would buy two and she said that was fine but she still needed her ID. We left and went down the road a couple miles to the Topoco lodge where we were treated amazingly well. I don't expect much as a disabled vet but I do expect to be treated better. So much for southern hospitality. read more

This is one of several preferred motorcycle destinations on the east coast. The resort is just on the other side of the Tennessee, North Carolina state line just beyond a well maintained, highly curvy road (300+ curves in 11 miles). Riders come from around the world to stay at this resort and ride this stretch of road. The resort isn't the Hilton. You share a room with 2 or 3 other riders, more like a hunting resort. The restaurant serves pretty good food and there's a decent selection of snacks and drinks in the store. There are also quite a lot of resort related merchandise, from stickers to t-shirts and even magnets. There are approximately 20 rooms and a large camping area. In between, a bathroom and shower. The resort also has its own gas pumps so you don't have to leave the area for much of anything. The Dragon, the primary reason for this resort, is the 311 curve road I mentioned earlier. Unfortunately, some of the motorcycle riders are unable to negotiate the curves properly and end up in the ditch. A portion of the broken bits of motorcycles adorn a tree (The Tree of Shame) in the courtyard of the resort. It's an awesome site and a caution to be careful. While you can ride this public road any day of the week, it's best _not_ to ride it on the weekend or during a holiday weekend. Not only are folks who travel to ride this road out, but the local riders who are very familiar with the road are out. The best days of the week to experience this road are probably Tuesday and Wednesday. Note: You must check in by 5pm. The staff are very friendly and the riders are always courteous, if sometimes a bit boisterous as mostly young, sportbike riders are (not that all riders are young or even sportbike riders). When I camped there, the campground was very quiet. The rooms were filled and there were three tents across the way (including mine). read more

I've been here twice, both times as a break/gift shop experience, not as a stay at the actual resort. This is my husband's favorite spot to get Tail of the Dragon souvenirs and he has gathered quite the t-shirt collection throughout the years that he has been slaying the Dragon. I wasn't a huge fan of the souvenir side of it, mainly because all sales are final and the one first and only time I bought a t-shirt it didn't fit. The place stays packed and there are a ton of motorcyclists congregating all around outside and inside. One of the cool things outside is the Tree of Shame. It's a tree that displays parts lost to the Dragon. My first time riding on the Tail of the Dragon, we stopped here and I was shown the tree and it made me even more terrified. Inside the cafe area, another cool thing is all of the t-shirts hanging everywhere... different clubs, etc leave and hang a t-shirt to make their mark. I've never eaten at the cafe, but I've stopped sat down and enjoyed a draft beer while my husband shopped... backwards, I know. I hate to shop and souvenir shopping is no different. One more thing to mention is that I didn't have cell phone service here, but they do have wifi across the street. read more

I rated this as 3 Stars for one specific reason. I was recently there and parked my bike near the beginning of the middle parking area for motorcycles. If you've been there it slopes down at that point into a big drain to handle the water runoff. The problem was on my last visit that it was really hot outside and my kickstand started sinking into the pavement! I caught it just before my bike fell over! It had sunken about an inch into the pavement. I immediately went inside and told the girl at the counter about this and suggested that they put cones out there to keep people from parking there and having their bikes fall over. They did nothing. I took it upon myself to move some orange cones up there before I left and even told several others that were going to park there not to for the same reason. Then, 2 weeks later, I'm back there and the same thing is happening. THis time I asked to speak to the manager. I explained all of this to him and suggested he put cones out there on days where it would potentially cause bikes to fall over. He said, and this is the bad part, "Man, I need the parking places, I'm not putting any cones out there." I said that was the worst customer service I'd ever heard of and, thus, this review. Outside of that mentality really being awful from a service standpoint, the place is pretty cool. I've stayed there many times but now have a disappointing vision of how they view their customers as a result of my interaction in trying to keep motorcycles from falling over. read more

On my vacation to TN, I was informed there was no way I would be leaving Knoxville without slaying The Dragon first. So myself and 2 other guides took me on the whole thing and even the Hellbender ride as well. I had a great time and really enjoyed the challenge of the 311 turns. I cannot imagine what was going through someones head when they built this road, but they were definitely riders. While I did not stay at the resort itself I did spend an hour in the shop and hanging out with the locals. Very friendly riders, albeit some, very psychotic in taking turns at 90+ mph. But generally good people none the less. The storefront where I spent most of my time was staffed by helpful employees who were able to answer all my questions and make my experience a pleasant one. I had a great time riding in this area, minus a thunderstorm that came through and created less than favorable conditions, this was a great little stop to hit up during the day. If you are anywhere in the area and want a place to get gas, trinkets, drinks, clothing, souvenirs, and dragon merchandise, this is the place to stop at. read more

A favorite for many years...my first visit was in April 2001. New ownership and lots of investment has made Deals Gap even better for enthusiasts. I drive a "cage" as many of the motorcyclists would refer to it...but the vibe is friendly and enthusiastic. The staff do a great job keeping the place clean and organized. Friendly folks at the store or in the Dragon's Den where I highly recommend a Dragon Burger. If you're driving a "cage," be respectful of the parked motorcycles. I typically park across the street (US 129) and just walk up. Also, breakfast at Dragon's Den is pretty awesome...sausage is excellent! read more

This place is base camp for the TAIL OF THE DRAGON run. THE TAIL OF THE DRAGON is over 300 turns in 11 miles. It is motorcycle mecca. They have a gas station, food and a very simple motel. Their parking lot is lined off for motorcycle parking, not cars. I think that is pretty cool. We had towed our bikes up so this is where the non riders stayed (give me a break, my daughter was only 15 months) while us riders continued on the ride. Definitely plan on returning and recommending to everyone! read more

Was a great stay, a little pricey for simple breakfast but very convenient. The bed was comfy, the room was well accomodated with fridge, microwave, cable tv, ice cold AC and nice shower/tub. Wish we would have seen the restaurant hours before setting out, after a 12 hour trip arriving right after they closed was a little bit of a shock in 100 degree heat, but just down the road at the Tapoco Lodge we were able to find food and drink. Worth the price, very nice folks. read more

As a motorcyclist of 30 years the tail of the dragon has always been on the top my list of places I've wanted to visit,I finally made it last year and have been back several times the last time being back in march,March, have to say,,Judd Merrill goes above and beyond to make all of his customers feel welcome and that they belong there,Judd and Deon always make my visits to the dragon the best experience to have and I cant wait to go back again... seriously cannot recommend the resort at the dragon enough,do yourself a favor and make the trip!!!!!! I had the fortunate experience to have a breakdown at deals motorcycle Resort. Brad and his team went above and beyond to make sure that my vehicle was towed to a safe destination. They made sure that my friends and I were well taken care of. And Brad even gave me a ride back to Knoxville Tennessee to pick up a rental vehicle so I can finish my weekend at the Tail of the Dragon. Drove down from Northern va for my first ride of the wild taill of the dragon. Stopped here for lunch and to enjoy the atmosphere. Lunch was good and the staff was extremely helpful in giving me directions to other things to see and do in the area. Nice gift shop and plenty of parking. Added benefit isthat there is a motel / biker lodge on site that you can stay while exploring other routes through the smokey mountains. The souvenir shop has all you need for capturing the experience of the dragon. Also they sponsor 12 slayer who is one of the photographers on the dragon that takes pics of you while you ride. There is also a gas station there to top off. Look forward to my next trip there. read more

I guess this would be a convenient place to stay if you absolutely need to get riding at 7am, but a real hotel nearby would be so much better. Glad they have a bathroom outside, but it hasn't been cleaned since the Dragon was considered an interstate. Also, why would they close before 5 on a Friday right while I am walking up to the store. I guess I'll find my bumper sticker elsewhere! read more

We go to the dragon several times a year. We kick it's butt and then eat at the resort restaurant. Last year when we were there the Hamburger patties were almost bigger then the bun and thick. This time the patty was small and thin with a piece of half melted cheese. It was a big disappointment because in the past the burgers were great. The fries were over cooked and tasted old and greasy and I couldn't eat them all. The prices were a bit high for a combo burger, fries and drink but it is considered a motorcycle resort. We will always go back but I think next time I will try the BBQ pit across the road. I give the restaurant 3 stars for cleanliness and it's location. The food problem keeps it to 3. My suggestion for them is to get some kind of WiFi and try to work something out with local cell companies about having a tower added to the area. Absolutely no cell service in the area for miles. read more

If your motorcycle bucket list includes the Tail of the Dragon, this is the place to stay. You are right at the intersection of the Tail and Moonshiner 28, and a short ride from Cherohala Skyway (all epic biking roads). The rooms at Deal Gap are basic, super clean and exactly as depicted on their website. The staff is friendly, and the rooms are very well priced. I paid about $69 a night for a room that could sleep four (queen bed and a bunk bed set). They also have a gas station that sells ethanol free gas, a gift shop and a restaurant. The restaurant serves basic fare at reasonable prices and beer. Beer and snacks are also available from the gift shop. I went in mid-September 2019 for 4 days and loved it. At night there is a massive fire pit so you can commune with your fellow bikers. I will guarantee that you will meet some fascinating people. During the day the place was swamped with hundreds of bikers. The only slight negative was cell service and wi-fi. The wi-fi only worked by the restaurant. After riding the Dragon's Tail we stopped in the gift shop. Prices were pretty reasonable, but they really needed to restock. In the summer when the roads are nice you should anticipate more sales as there are more riders out. Didn't stay in the hotel, but we did stay for lunch. BEST MEAL WE HAD ON OUR TRIP! Food was made after order and served up quick and piping hot. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and at the perfect doneness. The fries were crisp, and meaty steak fries. The onion rings were large, and the battery was great. Chicken strips were perfectly done, crispy on the outside, and juicy and hot inside. Did experience a slight case of indigestion as we were ready to go, but I was the only one who did. Maybe I was nervous about the trip back up the Dragon's Tail. Regardless, they had chewable pepto and tums available at the gift shop, and within a few minutes (after my stomach mellowed and the rain stopped) we were back on the road. Will make a point to stop back here again if I'm in the area. VERY biker friendly! read more

I am not giving five start because beds. I understand this is a bikers stop to spend a few hours of sleep before continuing traveling but the fact beds are so small is not well understand. No closers or place to hang your close. There is racks to put your helmets but no hangers or anu similar. Place is clean and we'll maintain. Restaurant serves Breakfast with good pancakes and the will try to accommodate your needs. The shop is pretty pricy and I still don't get why to pay $23 for a t shit ! read more

Well run business, helpful staff and basic but very clean and up to date rooms. Nice facility and the best place to be if you're there to ride the Dragon. I would have given it 4 or maybe 5 stars but there is one huge set back: After riding all day to get there we checked in, on Monday night, at 5:40pm and had plans to run the Dragon a few times and then grab some beers and dinner at their restaurant. While I was checking in the person at the front desk informed me that the restaurant would be closing in 20 minutes...at 6pm!!! And that the convenience store which sold beer to-go closed at 7pm! So after riding all day, dropping our bags and running the dragon a few times we had to make our way down the road to another restaurant for dinner. Nice place but c'mon, 6pm! read more
