The history is interesting, except for the fact that wealthy entrepreneurs exploited the common folks during the 1929 depression and bought their gold claims/homestead for less than market value. "Gold Dust Suites" is part of the Gold Dust hotels and is located directly across the street, in Deadwood SD. Before you check into the "Gold Dust Suites" you must know. They have no handicap access to room, ie. elevators etc, no handicap parking ( and having my achilles taken off the bone and repaired) and having a torn rotator cup. that was a big deal to me. Even bigger deal was parking two or three blocks away from room. Why isn't this on your website? We explained to the bearded desk clerk, our situation with my achilles and rotator. We kindly ask to move from the suites into the main hotel whick was closer and we could have taken our bags at the door. We were informed unless we wanted to pay extra for a new room, they could not accommodate a room change. Are you kidding me? The town was dead and i mean empty. Plus it was 7°. Then to top it off after hiking from parking lot in 7° weather, we had no service or internet on our tv. Did i mention that the parking lot is 2-3 blocks away and if that wasn't bad enough it had a sign "PARK AT YOUR OWN RISK" Sweet Jesus, you kidding me. We have over $5000.00 or more in ski equipment stored in our truck, now parked 3 blocks away in a park at your own risk lot in Deadwood SD. Oh Baby, thats a great feeling. Back to the TV. We called front desk and a sweet young lady "Emily" came over and went to work trying to fit wifi. She finally got TV to work and she was delightful. She was full of determination whan it came to that TV boy, she was on it. I can only muster 2 star. Easily fixable things that caused me to give two star: *Non caring desk clerk who was about to get off work and didn't want to take the extra time to change our rooms. * literally blocks away from the room * Park at your own risk parking lot. * no elevator for handicap individuals *no HC parking *TV had no internet *no heat in bathroom *Flies all over window sils and floor * indifferent desk clerk Just put the truth on your website site would be a great start. If not for Emily, I'd given one star. Probably should anyway, but rooms were OK less no heat and flies. This was my second time staying with Gold Dust. I'll probably not return next year. They'll probably be glad I won't be back. Sorry for rambling just a long day. . I have stayed at the The Hotel by Gold Dust before. It was great and I enjoyed it.
