While strolling through Downtown Half Moon Bay, we happened to stumble across Dead Wax Records, and I'm so glad we decided to step inside. I remembered this space from when it used to be a wine bar, so it was fun seeing it transformed into a record shop.
From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. They struck the perfect balance of being friendly and approachable without hovering, checking in to see if we were looking for anything specific or wanted recommendations.
The shop itself has a clean, fresh feel, and you can tell a lot of thought went into creating the space. One feature I really appreciated was the listening station tucked away in the corner with a record player, giving you the chance to sample records before committing to a purchase. They also have a cozy little seating area where you can slow down, listen to music, and simply enjoy the atmosphere. It makes the store feel more like a community space than just a place to shop.
As someone who collects vinyl, I usually come in with a wishlist already in mind. Finding older pressings or vintage records in excellent condition isn't always easy, so I was excited to browse through their selection. They had a well-curated mix of classics, newer releases, and hidden gems, and I ended up leaving with a Daft Punk record that I was thrilled to add to my collection.
Another fun touch was the $5 record bins off to the side. If you enjoy crate digging, it's definitely worth taking your time because you never know what you'll find.
Overall, I absolutely loved the vibe of this shop. Great music, a thoughtfully curated collection, welcoming staff, and a space that encourages you to slow down and enjoy the experience. Whether you're a longtime vinyl collector or just starting your collection, Dead Wax Records is well worth a stop if you're visiting Half Moon Bay.
I'll definitely be back to see what new arrivals make it onto the shelves! read more
