UNPROFESSIONAL TREATMENT They reached out to "me" about a position and asked me to come in for an in-house interview before presenting me to their client. I thought the interview went OK and I had the experience to do the job. It was a Friday and they said they would know something early the next week. They said if I hadn't heard from them by Wednesday, I should call them. When I didn't receive a call, I waited until 4:00 PM on Wednesday and called them. The person's voicemail message said they were in the office, but "in a meeting " and to leave a message. I left a message, reminding them that they said to call them if I hadn't heard from them. A week later, I still never received a call back, so just to be clear, I called again the following Wednesday. This time I spoke to the receptionist and explained my situation. Again, the person was present, but "in a meeting." I asked her to leave a written message that I had called, per their instructions. Again, I did not receive a return call. If these guys want to do business with professionals, they need to act like professionals and keep their word. If they decided there was a problem after my interview or the client went with another candidate, at least have enough intestinal fortitude to let me know. Evidently, either their management doesn't know how their people treat candidates or they condone treating them unprofessionally. Asking someone to come all the way out to their office and then ghosting them is NOT PROFESSIONAL. read more

I'm sorry, but I would have to agree with the other 1-star reviews for Deacon Recruiting. I applied at several positions posted by Deacon back in 2013 and was contacted by a recruiter (I won't name names). Somehow, that didn't work out. Over the course of several weeks, she matched me up to several jobs that did not fit my experience, but I went ahead and interviewed anyway. No luck. I found employment on my own. In 2017 I saw several jobs that grabbed my interest, but it listed Deacon Recruiting. I hesitated due to my previous experience, but decided to give them another try. I once again was interviewed on the phone, then in person. I had to repeat my experience several times to the recruiter (seems like her mind was elsewhere). I was then given 3 job options. I thought, "what happened to the position I applied for?" I was recommended to try to advance my skills with a different industries and roles than what I am used to - to build my skill set. Okay, I agreed to submit my resume. I was later told that company was no longer accepting candidates. Then, I never heard from the recruiter again. There is no, "would you like to try the other 2 positions on the list we discussed?" Again, I ending up finding a job on my own. I guess applying for any position through Deacon will only get you through the door for an interview by Deacon Recruiting. Whether or not you actually get an interview for that particular position depends on the recruiter. Sure, they have a nice office. Sure, the recruiters seem outgoing. Sure Deacon gets a lot of good leads. But with lack of a genuine interest to help candidates instead of throwing them to any opening Deacon Recruiting is never going to be my go-to job resource again. 3rd time's a charm, maybe? Total waste of time and gas. Their commission/paycheck is based on number of calls they make and in house candidate visits per week. So the emphasis is on getting candidates to drive to their office to BS so they can meet their quota. Recruiters leave who can't meet quotas. It is not about filling openings it is about filling their pockets with Commission off of the candidate skill set hard work and knowledge. Although the new woman assisting me was very nice, she nor any of her coworkers were good about keeping in contact with me. I was contacted by a young lady by the name of Lauren Costley. She was very professional, cheerful and has a great deal of personality. She is a good listener but more importantly understands the space which my profession lives in, that's quite unusual. After a few failed attempts at getting together, such is the nature of life, we finally met. I was greeted by a very professional looking individual who was incredibly polite, she offered me coffee, real china, and a place to sit, I arrived early. Lauren came into the room and was very apologetic about our attempts to get together, I certainly understood, we live in a busy world. Lauren was very vested in our conversation, she asked me a lot of good questions, made a ton of notes and most importantly, made me feel like I could add value to some of her clients. I can tell you that I've dealt with over 50 recruiters during my career, Lauren would be in the top ten percentile. I took the time to read some of the other unfavorable reviews, it's a shame. I don't think that most people understand the relationship between themselves and the recruiter. It's a very simple and straightforward relationship, if they don't have an opportunity for you, they don't call, why should they, their dealing with others that do have an opportunity. Are there poor recruiters, of course there are, just like there are shisters, quacks and many other types of incompetents in every profession. Recruiters are and can be a very effective road to employment, but you have to remember, you never put all your eggs in one basket, that's not how it works. read more

The staff at Deacon are not your typical temporary agency staff, and that is a great compliment to their philosophy, core objectives, and approach. Whereas other temp agencies really engage in the practice of "filling" positions, making their quota, and making hopeful employees jump through endless hoops in order to earn a chance at their ideal position (you know who you are), recruiters like Austin A take the time to understand one's aspirations, goals, and real world aptitude, in order to work to find him or her a position with the potential to forge a career. That being said, keep in mind that the interviewing/registration process is a lot more involved with them, but it's worth the extra time and effort. Finding am entry level position in a new or transitional field is hard enough, but finally, I am being offered positions with real compensation and growth potential. I wanted to give Deacon Recruiting a try since they seemed to be on the higher end of staffing agencies. I went and met with someone and all I was told was 1. Apply to other places 2.I have little experience in my career that I just transitioned to(at the time I had over a year) to add, I also have my masters degree. I felt they are only willing to take on candidates who have exactly what they are looking for and discard you if you don't check all their boxes. I wasted time and gas to come there and I won't be following up again. I can apply to jobs all day, that's not the reason I came to Deacon. Very unprofessional recruiting office. I was interviewed for a position. I felt it went really well. A week passes & I never hear back. I had to call over 3 different times & finally found out that recruiter had left employment with Deacon. I was assigned another recruiter & didn't get anywhere with her. After 4 phone conversations I finally asked, have you even looked at my resume? I have multiple experiences in different areas. Looking for a new job is sometimes uneasy and you can tend to question yourself, but all of my interaction with the staff helped me to feel very confident. Throughout the whole process I felt that they were on my side and had my best interest at heart. They did a great job in determining my skills and seeing how I could be a great match for my employer. I've been very happy. The personal attention did not stop once I was placed. They continued to check in with me to see how I was adapting to my new job. I feel that they truly care about me. I love going to visit them at their office. Each person I have interacted with feels like a personal friend of mine. Once I was placed, the company I joined started using Deacon's services to find more personnel. So I've worked with Deacon both sides: looking for work and looking for staff. In each case they have been terrific. Ann Deacon does a terrific job providing personal attention to each of her clients. Her magnetic personality is a joy! I have worked with various staffing agencies, on both sides of the fence, and not one of them compared to Deacon. Their goal isn't just to quickly run people through, but to take the time to find a good match that will last. Sometimes it takes a while to find the company that will be a great fit for you, but it's worth it to work with Deacon as you can be sure they've done their homework and are only presenting you with options that are worth your time. Bait and switch. I reached out to them regarding a position they posted on LinkedIn. I received a call to discuss the particulars of the position but they did not disclose the name of the company because it was confidential. I was then scheduled for a screening interview to see if I would be a good fit for the job. Only then did they disclose the name of their client company. I was also told that the client company was already on second round of interviews. So, I was actually wondering why waste anyone's time if they were already far along with interviewing candidates. Next day, I called the agency to discuss a question and found out that their client had already hired someone. I was then told that the client was seriously considering hiring for a second position, but then I never heard back from them. Questioning if they ever really had a position with the supposed corporate client. Oh and by the way, how could I forget. I was asked if I had children. Wow....how unprofessional. read more

They have always responded when I reached out to them and have contacted me for opportunities whenever they thought I was a good fit. The recruiters are pleasant. The owner, Ms. Deacon is very into control. I met with a recruiter and then had to go in on a weekend to meet Ms. Deacon. I was accidentally sent an invoice for my services. They were charging the customer over 100% mark-up. Their agreement was for a much lower percentage. I was paid on time and accurately but that's the nicest thing I can say about them. read more

My experience wasn't completely negative at first. My recruiter was very cheerful personable. After reviewing my experience, she had two jobs I was a good candidate for. One didn't work out the other one did. After placement, the follow-ups became less and less frequent. After a couple of months without a permanent position, I made it clear that I was not seeking a temp position. No attempts were made on the agency's part to find me other placement. There have been no attempts to reaching out or finding out how my time with the employer is going. The only good thing is the weekly and timely pay. I'm still on their payroll but have ZERO contact with them. The agency only cares about the premium they get out of placing people. What a shame. I've lost all respect of Ann Bohl Deacon. If you're able to avoid working witH Deacon Recruiting, I HIGHLY recommend it. read more
