Erik Siemons startte het Zweminstituut in 1998. Hij begon toen met lesgeven in Huizen. In 2012 kwam daar een zwembad op IJburg bij. Vanaf november 2014 verruilt het Zweminstituut het bad in Huizen voor "Het Mineraal" in Almere. Er werken op dit moment 20 zwemonderwijzers bij het Zweminstituut. Om de kwaliteit van de zwemlessen en doelgroepactiviteiten hoog te houden werken er naast gediplomeerde zwemonderwijzers ook specialisten voor elke doelgroep. Een fysiotherapeut, een pedagogisch medewerker, een ALO-gymdocent, CIOS-afgestudeerden, die ook zwemonderwijzer zijn. De mensen die bij Siemons werken, doen dat met plezier en liefde. En dat merk je aan de ontspannen sfeer in het zwembad en de gedrevenheid waarmee les wordt gegeven. Onze lesmethode baseren wij op het leren omgaan met de eigenschappen van het water onder begeleiding van een gekwalificeerde docent. Daarbij is de communicatie tussen leerling en docent van essentieel belang. Dit maakt de lessen tot een leerzame en vooral plezierige gebeurtenis. We heard quite a crowd inside with lots of children noises, and were afraid that it maybe crowded. However, it was pleasant. The pools were big enough to hold all the people with still plenty rooms to feel chill. There were a deep big pool, a small shallow one and one tiny pot for baby. Water was clear and chill. We had no problem with toilets and lockers and changing rooms, there are enough of them. Except there was not really shower after the swim. Also love the grassfield. Soft could walk bare feet and lay under the sun.

This place reminds me of those photos of swimming pools that got shut down during outbreaks of…read morepolio. You can just feel the disease pathogens jumping around and spreading. I think it's because on a warm day there are thousands of people coming through here, and they don't clean the facilities all day. Plus there is no soap in the bathrooms. So by the end of the day the changing stalls are wet and grimy from dirt and grass and razors and used bloody pads on the floor, the pools are full of sand and leaves and who knows what diaper stuff, and you can't even wash your hands because there is no soap. And then you have to eat fries from the concession stand with dirty pool hands. After spending an afternoon here I felt hot and grimy and sticky and just wanted to take a shower. Add in the long wait for food since they only have 1 concession stand for all these people and it's a good approximation of what it's like to be poor. You're hot, dirty, and starving. On the other hand, kids seem to like it. They don't sell swim diapers or anything, so be sure to bring water toys and everything else you'll need. I recommend bringing pool slippers or wearing water friendly sandals because the sidewalks have lots of grit and dirt coming off of them, and the big bouncy cushion is surrounded by fine sand that loves to stick to your feet. On a slightly cooler day this place is a ghost town. They say their pool is heated but that is a lie. My little girl was shivering in 71F/21C degree weather because the water was so cold. They also didn't have the wading pool open, which might have been warmer because it's more shallow. On days like this the concession stand people just decide not to work. If you want food you have to go next door to the Zeeburg campground and enjoy their bread, cheese and ramen noodles. On the plus side, the entrance fee is cheap, and it's one of the few places in Amsterdam you can splash around outside in really hot weather. Their grassy area is nice, and the drinks and Popsicles are somewhat cheap and plentiful.

There's also jacuzzi-like tubs, and steam rooms, both coin-operated and inexpensive. Has showers. Reasonably warm water. Changing stalls available. Very inexpensive, and located next to the Rijksmuseum.

this place is the next best thing to swimming in the wild blue warm ocean or an outdoor swimming…read morepool. not only is it a gorgeous swimming pool, the place is very clean, well maintained and the water isn't cold. there's even a diving board to jump off of! there are set lanes for lap swimming and a section of the pool for fooling around with the kids. also a nice fountain you can sit under and do your stretches. 3.50 entrance and you can buy tokens for the steam shower or the mini personalized hot tubs (ie: personal bathtub..haha) after your swim. i always buy a token for the steam shower which is 2.50 i believe? my reward for swimming laps :) oh one last thing... no need to bring a lock for the lockers. they have a digital system that's free and allows you to have your own private locker.
