An overall incredible pancake house in the middle of a beautiful forest like park just outside of…read moredowntown Utrecht. My great friend and I were in Utrecht for a couple of days and decided to rent bikes and join the crowd and bike all around town. I had heard of this legendary pancake house in the woods and after a little bit of research realized it would make the perfect bike excursion for the two of us. So, we got all fitted and fixed up on our rental bikes and wearing NO helmets, started GPSing our way out of downtown, headed for the Theehuis Rhijnauwen. It wasn't too bad getting to the entrance to the forest, only a few close scrapes, but once we crossed over, we were biking in the open air with the most beautiful green spaces surrounding us. The rest of the ride was pretty fantastic. We saw friends biking in parallel sync, chatting away, and only wished that I was able to master my bicycle enough to do that too. Anyway, we arrived soon enough and found a spot to lock up our bikes. The place was hopping, but we got a table outside pretty easily. We were looking out on the greenest grassy field with two mini donkeys prancing around on a grassy knoll. The ONLY downside was that I had pre-ordered a tea service for the two of us, which was not great food-wise. I watched so many plates of big pancakes pass by longingly. Our tea service food was a lot of ok sweets and some salami, and then more sweets. Oof. On the other hand, there was no way I was going to let the disappointment of the food ruin the overall magic. Every time I looked over at one of those mini Dutch donkeys prancing around, they winked right back at me.

Sitting on the window side table with the windmills right in front of you. It's really a peaceful place to hang out for a while before our next destination. The service was good and I really liked the breakfast offering - some typical Dutch fare combined with a few more exciting things. The sandwiches offered are really worthwhile as are the smoothies - the tea cups are perhaps a trite small for the cost but the choice of teas on the hand is great. Excellent little place to go to - well recommended.

Pancake craving drew me to this place in the Delft market…read more Food: 3.5 stars. Ordered fritter snack appetizer, bacon pancake, tap beer, and jenever (local gin-like alcohol). Fritter appetizer was tasty and a good value (11 euro for 16 piece). Pancake was good but left something to be desired. Tap Wieckse beer was good. Jenever was too bitter/strong for my taste. Service: 5 stars. Waitress was extremely friendly. She provided pancake/beer recommendations and even helped me charge my dying phone! Bottom Line: Good meal & solid service, but pancakes were not the best I've had. Probably would return if in Delft though.

They have a bakery counter if you need things to take away. The dining room is located mostly in the cozy kelder that has windows looking out to a gracht that's adjacent. A group of five came hungry, and we chose high tea, since it's closest thing to brunch you can find. There are several different high tea options on the menu with focus on sweet, savory, or everything ranging from €20-30. There is also a good selection of a la carte items for €5-10. We were overwhelmed with an attack of food and tea. The food started with a scone, jam, and clotted cream course served with two giant pots of tea. Then we continued along (see my picture) and were served a tower of two plates of small sandwiches (five different varieties), bowls of soup, various kinds of quiche, and a plate of sweets, chocolates, and tartes. Two more pots of tea showed up with the main course and they brought one more at the end as a palate cleanser. Five pots of tea total. Don't miss the Lapsang tea.
