In general, I dislike eating lobster in a restaurant as it is typically a snobby affair and I have yet to master eating and enjoying a lobster without having it all over me. But Den Beer is super informal, it is like you go to your grammy's house to eat. The owner is 78 years old, she is a real gem: fierce but welcoming. The food itself is why I keep on coming here and keep on wanting to come back: the lobster is just DELICIOUS. I've tried several styles over the years and all are finger licking good. The lobsters are always super juicy and cooked to perfection, it would be hard to pick my favorite style as all of them are the bomb but maybe the grilled flambe with whiskey has a slight edge in my book. I truly wish Gusje, the owner, a long life and good health as I will continue to come again and again!

My biggest complaint, and it really isn't just this restaurant, comes from the amount of flies I had to fend off. As for the food, it was tasty. I started with fish soup, which was deliciously salty. For my entree I had ceviche, which I have never had so I tried it out. It was delicious, however the sweetness and the coconut flavor overwhelmed me toward the end and I wasn't able to finish it! Turned out that they ended up canceling the octopus order but that wasn't clearly explained, we inferred that's what happened with the lower tab bill. I guess it worked out since we filled up quickly on the generous bowl of mussels (nice and meaty) and used up all the bread to soak up the delicious broth. The fried shrimp cake was crisp on the outside and tasty. As others pointed out, there was at least one gruff guy (the one who took my initial order) but the servers handling the service on the 2nd floor were very nice and neatly setup everything on our tiny table. This time we got the razor clams and mackerel during both visits and those were our favorite. Razor clams were still the best we've eaten to date. Mackerel perfectly pan fried with skin that easily separated. The tartar like sauce was a great complement for the fish. The octopus was cooked nicely and served in a tomato sauce with chopped veggies. The calamari rings were crisp on the outside and tender inside, a good dish but portion seemed small. This is my second visit to Rodeo within the last year. It is a pretty popular place for meat…read morelovers, so if you are looking to fulfill the carnivore in you - you may want to make this place your home. The menu has a really nice selection of both cold and warm starters, and the salad selection is above average for most places. They also have a small tapas menu, offer soups, fajitas, seafood and even lambchops. On top of all this, they also have one of the largest selections of steak cuts I have ever seen in Eindhoven. Here you will find flank steak, top sirloin, tenderloin and ribeye - and in a variety of different sizes. For quick reference, the steaks come in various sizes (grams). Here's a quick way to determine how much meat your getting with the portions that Rodeo offers for the steaks: 180g (6.34oz), 250g (8.8oz), 350g (12.3oz), 450g (15.8oz), 600g (21oz). On this visit, i had the small bbq ribs as a starter. This was just right as an appetizer. It's a small plate with 6-7 spare ribs that are lightly sauced and seasoned and they tasted pretty good. I would definitely order them again. For my main course I went with the mixed kabob tenderloin (250 gram) plate. This came with a small piece of beef tenderloin and two chicken cutlets that have been pounded flat. The steak was cooked medium - exactly as I ordered it, and the chicken was done perfectly without being overcooked. Both the chicken and beef tasted great. They also brought out with the plate potato gratin and a bowl with some small frites and mayo to dip them in. I would definitely come back here again. I've had good experiences both times and the quality of the food is definitely superior here. Just be aware that the average bill here tends to be higher than for other restaurants in the area. That being said, if you like a good steak, you will definitely want to give them a try yourself.
