Originally, I had rezzies to rent from U-Haul, but after reading an article in the LA Times about…read moretheir unreliable maintenance and safety standards, I ended up booking with Budget, especially since it ended up being cheaper with a 10% discount from moving.com. Now, I regret it. Reservation Problems I first made reservations online with the 10% discount from moving.com. But, since I never received an email confirmation, I called the customer service number to confirm my reservations. Good thing, because they had no record of my online reservation. The customer service rep was quick and efficient. He said I'd receive a confirmation email, but I didn't get nothing for over a week. So, I had to call AGAIN, at which point my reservation was confirmed, even though I never received any email confirmation. Super SLOW Pick-Up Pick up in Davis, CA was horribly slow. Although I can't say exactly how long, I would estimate about 1/2 hour. Plus, the guy made horrible, dry humor jokes that just weren't funny at 10 am. Actually, they wouldn't be funny at any time of the day. As for the truck itself, it was just fine. Drop Off Nightmare Drop off was a big headache. I was scheduled to drop off in Millbrae, but I saw a closer drop off in Pacifica. I had to call everywhere to change my drop off to Pacifica. First, I called the Davis office. He said I had to call the main number to change. I called them and they told me that I had to call where I was going to drop off. I called the drop off place in Millbrae and they told me I had to call the pick up place! So, I called him back and he changed it begrudgingly. I doubt I'll need a rental truck again, but if I do. I might have to rent Penske since U-Haul is apparently dangerous and Budget made me super cranky!

After arriving to pick up a truck, I was able to substitute in an available cargo van with side doors, which greatly helped to keep things DRY, since I had to unload in a downpour! Rented a 26 " foot truck. Customer service was great, truck was ready on pick up date and time and…read moredrop off was great as they have an after hours drop box outside of front door. Only issue was following: Was originally informed that total amount of truck rental would be verified via my credit card yet not charged until final billing. Ok..... thats fine. I went in thinking they were charging the full amount to begin with which was fine with me. Upon running my card, they charged the full amount plus $150.00 deposit. Would have appreciated knowing they would be charging deposit right away as would have given them cash. Upon returning the truck, they take any necessary charges from deposit etc yet can take anywhere from 3-7 business days for deposit refund. If one pays deposit with cash, one gets the refund immediately from store. Anyway, it was too late for them to refund anything so waited for my refund after I turned in truck. Took 4 days for refund which was ok yet do feel should have been told there would be delay in refund and been given option of paying deposit in cash before they charged card. Other than the above, all went well
