Incredible food at a great price. Sat outside on a chilly evening, but the heaters and blankets kept you warmer than indoors. Not a dessert person, but the pistachio creme brûlée was truly an experience. Servers were very kind and attentive read more

I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and some nachos and both were pretty disappointing. The daiquiri tasted too much like rum and not enough like strawberries and the nachos were an even bigger disappointment. As someone who isn't from the Netherlands I ordered these expecting them to be good. The tortilla chips were too salty and they had three sauces on the side, not even overtop of the nachos. It was 9€ for the strawberry daiquiri and 9€ for the nachos. read more

Very good food. Super atmosphere and elegant surroundings. Three course set menu for EUR17.50 which looked good. Also serves as a really pretty and quaint pub/bar with a nice atmosphere. Not the cheapest place around but I'd come back! read more

Established in 1792.

Gebouwd 1792, volgens hetzelfde ontwerp als de hoofdwacht in Brielle. Sinds 1996 een restaurant/Café. (De) hoofdwacht of Grande Garde is een aanduiding voor een centrale post, een gebouw van waaruit schutterijen of andere veiligheidsdiensten hun wachtrondes konden maken. Er waren ruimtes voorzien voor bevelvoerders en eventueel voor andere functies die met ordehandhaving samenhingen, bijvoorbeeld cachotten. Bij gebouwen die tegenwoordig nog onder deze term bekend zijn, wordt hoofdwacht gewoonlijk als een eigennaam opgevat en dus met een hoofdletter geschreven.

My smoked pigeon starter was a bit dry. Though the cod was prepared very well (moist, flaky and well seasoned), the skin could have been crunchier. The dessert was quite tasty but a bit disjointed. Each item on its own was really good...but together not coherent. I would definitely return and enjoyed my night out.

There is plenty of seating both inside, and outside (on the plaza/market side, as well as the church side). We opted for a high top table inside, by the bar. The menu has some unique options. My husband ordered the Stadthuys Special, which is a bold combination of pork belly and shrimp scampi. He really enjoyed it; it's an interesting pairing that works well together. I had the Brie sandwich (honey, arugula, and seeds), which was a very generous serving of bread, so I ended up eating it open-faced to get the perfect ratio of toppings. We also tried the Pomodori soup. We learned after the fact that "Pomodori" is Italian for tomato--which explains the flavor! It was a bit of a surprise since the description focused on the sour cream and spring onion, but it was delicious with a lot of depth of flavor. The beer menu here is fantastic, with a great selection of both drafts and bottles. We enjoyed the list so much that we both ended up staying for a second round! Highly recommend this spot for a flavorful lunch and a great pour.
