The rabbit meat was surprisingly tender and the stew/sauce added some nice flavor. For those who haven't had rabbit before, it takes kind of like chicken to be honest, just with smaller bones. I think the price was okay considering the quality and type of dish. The fresh grapefruit juice (€5.80) was very good too. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and attentive. I was seated right away and the service speed was pretty quick. They have a decently sized indoor space as well as outdoor patio seating. The environment has a traditional Belgian restaurant/pub kind of vibe. Overall, Le Bistro has high quality traditional Belgian food in a pleasant setting and I would definitely recommend it if you are in the area near Porte de Hal / Marollen.

They had a kid's menu which featured one of my son's favorites, spaghetti Bolognese and of the 4 versions of this dish he ate over the course of this trip he and I both agreed this was the best. What can I say? My kid is a creature of habit. They also had apple juice and this made him happy as well. I seriously thought about getting a croque monsieur as I absolutely love them, but it was our last day in Belgium and I had yet to experience the famous Flemish beef stew so that is what I ordered. It was a large serving of beef in a delicious beer based au jus served with a side of fries. I really enjoyed it. Some pieces of beef were more tender than others, but isn't that how it always goes with a stew? My husband had their house mussels and he said the sauce was so good. Again, the portion was large and he really enjoyed his mussels in Brussels. Overall, it was a solid pick that satisfied our need to try signature Belgian dishes and our son's desire to stick with food he is familiar with. Prices were reasonable enough and portions were large. Every left happy and full.

Steps away from the grand palace but no sales person to drag you into their places. We were draw here by the big pots of mussels. I want to emphasize how terrible the service was by saying we had to literally wait 10-15 minutes just to order (even though we already knew what we wanted right on the get go). My friend and I tried flagging down the waiter/waitress by giving eye contact and raising our hand but it seems like they purposely avoid us. Then after doing this a few times, the waiter comes by and tells us to give them 5 minutes. Like what?? The people next to us was waiting as well until they got impatient and just left. They seriously need to hire more people. Anyways, yelp is about the food. The food was pretty good. I don't mind waiting for quality food at a restaurant but the people working there just need to be a bit more attentive! My friend and I ordered the original mussels and the garlic mussels to share. Instead of doing a whole order of each, we did half and half of each order. I thought the garlic mussels were very tasty and plentiful in meat between the shells. They put a soup base on the bottom and cook these mussels with celery, and onions. Not sure what else they add but very well worth the taste -- couldn't stop drinking the soup event though I know it was loaded with sodium. The order cane with fries and a little wet lemon napkin to wipe your hands. Overall, I did thorough enjoy the food but the service needs some major work (don't know if being American played a role in this though). Come here only if you have time to waste and spend ~1.5 hours. I did go to the schwarma place next door the following day and that was much better food/service! :)

For a main, I chose the duck breast with pink peppercorn cognac cream sauce. Wow! The duck was perfectly cooked. The sauce was tasty without being too heavy, with plenty of fresh mild peppercorns. The entrees come with a small salad & croquettes (plain this time & the only boring point of my meal). I'm very happy that I followed another reviewer's advice of the speculoos tiramisu, it was really special! Cons: the restaurant is a little small, no outdoor seating, & no AC. But since we were in Brussels anyway, I figured we might as well try to get the full Belgian experience and try both mussels and beer. Le Chou de Bruxelles certainly did not disappoint -- the food was outstanding, the service impeccable, and the space delightful. The mussels were remarkably fresh and were a bit briny (as all mussels must be) but weren't overly fishy. Le Chou de Bruxelles offers a wide swath of sauces you can pair with your mussels, which is super fun; I ended up doing a more classic combo with white wine, garlic, and several herbs, but it was super tasty -- the herbs were super fresh and brightened up the overall dish, and the white wine was a lovely pairing with the shellfish. We also got their caprese salad, which was super tasty; the mozzarella was incredibly fresh and the tomato was perhaps the best tomato my friend had ever tried. It was presented in a rather entertaining way, with the tomato cut in half and hollowed out, then with the mozzarella packed inside the tomato. The service was also phenomenal and absolutely on-point. We were seated in the back of the restaurant right next to the patio door, so a few bees flew in and circled around our heads during our meal, but the staff was super friendly in helping us push the bees back outside. Vibes-wise, the restaurant is gorgeous and lively. It's a little bit out of the way from Central Brussels, so you end up with a good mix of locals and tourists. Absolutely love this spot and can't wait to come back in my next trip to Brussels!
