Quite possible One of The best beer shops in Amsterdam. They offer a wide range of beers of all sorts, sizes and types. I come here at least once a month to stock up on my favourite brews. The staff is pretty helpful and like a somelier advising in wine they do the same with beer. They also have a couple of coolers so in case you want to have a beer on the go. It's a lovely beer shop. They have a lot of different beers and have a shelf just for De Molen brewery. If we weren't traveling economy (no checked in luggage) we would probably do a shop-til-you-drop act in here. In the end, we ended up buying two lovely dark beers (both stout if I remembered it right, one from De Molen and one vanilla stout from -- I can't remember) and drank it before we flew back to Copenhagen. Wow wow wow! This place is my heaven!! Make sure you bring a backpack to successfully haul your beer purchases around in because you won't be able to leave without several bottles in hand. I left with 8 Westvleteren 12s of course. There is also a really great beer glass selection as well. The man that was working behind the counter is incredibly nice. I really wish that I had packed over a few beers from the states just to give to him and make his day. He had just received a Rogue Brewery beer when I arrived. Since I can get those so easily, I was wishing that I had a few on my persons. So if you're reading this and you're going to Amsterdam, ziplock and pack up a few beers to bring over. This is definitely the place to buy your craft beer in Amsterdam! Being from the US we saw only a few familiar labels, most were brands that we've never heard of before. It was a little overwhelming but, as beer lovers, we were still very impressed. We did see a few bottles of the Mikkeller/Three Floyds collaborations and were pretty excited about that! This must be the best place in Amsterdam to find specialty beer. My first time in here I actually heard some girls walk in asking for some Vodka. The guy behind the counter said, "This is The BeerKing, NOT The VodkaKing". That made me smile immediately and I knew I would like it there. Any time I am in the search for something specific I head to De Bierkoning first. The guys there have always beer helpful with my searches and if something can't be found (or even if it can) they are there to help find something else. I will not name off all the great Dutch breweries even though there are some and they often get shadowed by Belgium beers (also great). If you want to go search for some of those enjoy this wonderland. The shop is setup with wall to wall beer so it can be quite overwhelming. There is even an up and downstairs to make you choose where to start first. This might well be the best beer shop in the world. It stocks almost a thousand different types of bottled beer (seriously), from all over the world, with extremely extensive selections of Dutch, Belgian and German beers in particular. They also stock three hundred different kinds of beer glass and will even sell you T-shirts from some of the Dutch breweries. The service is friendly and they're happy to recommend beers based on which ones you've already liked (I was the only customer when I visited, so maybe at busy times this personal service isn't always available). They stock some Belgian beers that I have never seen anywhere else, ever. If I had the money, I would probably buy the entire shop. Bear in mind it's a shop, not a bar- if you're looking for a good pub to drink Dutch and Belgian beers nearby, try Cafe Belgique which is five minutes' walk away from Beerkoning. read more

As others have mentioned, this is THE place to go to buy beers and glassware. It's a small shop but the selection is great; everything from popular to rare, international to very local. The employees are patient and knowledgeable on any beer question you may have but if you have social anxiety, you can also get their recommendations without having to ask them by checking out the shelf next to the counter. Beers here obviously don't come cheap but it is the same price for this caliber everywhere else. I like to grab an armload of de Molens and, time or baggage restrictions allowing, maybe one or two of whatever the employees like. This place can be five stars to most people, I am one of the few it is not. The selection is phenomenal with beers of all types and a staff that can help construct a novice beer drinker into a professional taster. They have lots of German beers you normally can't find elsewhere. That being said I love to throw money various eastern European lagers and unfortunately they do not carry any. The prices are very good especially considering a specialty store like this are often able and justified to charge a higher price especially considering the high level of service. read more

I like the wide selection they have, it's impossible not to find anything you like. We always pass by when we're invited for lunch or dinner at some friends please, or when we are looking for a small present. Being from Leiden, we're used to having access to an extensive beer selection within a short walk. But this selection pales in comparison to Bierkoning. Their well-stacked shelves display a great variety of beers from all over the world. What's even better, Bierkoning sports a fridge for when you're in urgent need of some good beer. The only flaw we can find is the pricing and labeling, which isn't always too clear. Luckily, this blemish is more than compensated by the amount of beers they sell. Came here about a week and a half ago while vacationing in The Netherlands. Walked in with my friend and started asking very basic questions about their selection. They had a sign in the window for an American beer which I was shocked to see here in Amsterdam. When I inquired about the particular beer the young man at the counter scoffed at my question and said "no we don't have that." My friend asked if they had Heineken (mind you we're in Amsterdam, the birthplace of Heineken) and the young man behind the counter said in the rudest tone possible "why would we have that?" He then proceeded to loudly talk down about American beer and finished by saying "if you want, you can have the one Budweiser hanging by the noose in the back." We did nothing to provoke this guy and I still do not understand what the issue was but this is not a place recommended for tourists. read more
