This seemed like a Michelin star quality restaurant - several courses of delicious food and amazing service.

This place was such a find. We went here based on the high rating & we are so glad we went. Dinner starts at 7:00. The owner is a sweet lady that has been in business for 20 years. She is so gracious & kind. She told us she only serves organic food from local farmers. It was 27€ for a 5 course meal. You can also get a la cart food too. It was a deal!!! Every dish was so beautifully arranged. As we saw people looking at the menu outside, I wanted to go out there & tell them to come in. I would definitely recommend this place.

We were so lucky to get same-day reservations to this fantastic restaurant. After a crazy day of train mishaps from Paris, we settled into our B&B and started to search for a vegetarian friendly restaurant. We found de Buhne on TripAdvisor and all the reviews were excellant. We called and thankfully the lovely lady on the other line (who we later learned was a co-owner) offered us a spot for the evening. Doors were not open before dinner hours so we stopped by a nearby pub to indulge in a Belgium beer beforehand. The restaurant itself is so cute ! It sits on a quiet street not far from the main square. The decor inside is inviting and rustic. Every detail on the table setting was planned- I even remember noting the tablecloth. There are two people that run this whole operation. One person is the chef in the back & the other is the lovely lady who takes your order and brings you the next course of your meal. The meal consisted of 5 courses. Each was a song in itself. We were also able to pair beer with our meal- only in Belgium! It's been a few months since we had our amazing dining experience here so i dont remember every course. Here are the highlights of the meal: the delicious savory biscuit that came out before the first course. Savory crepes topped w smoky sauces and belgium fries. The "here and now" veggies w puff pastry, sliced almonds and cheese sauce. The warm pear tart/cake. This delightful place is true farm to table. Likely you won't find the same items on the menu when you are there. Our meal was 2.5 -3 hrs long. This is a very different experience from how we dine in the US. At de Buhne, you have the opportunuty to take your time and enjoy every course and relishing time with those in your company.. You could tell every course was made to order here and all the details were well thought out. This place is small- i think they had 4-5 tables total . They sent 3 different groups of diners away the night we went. And the 8 of us sitting the tables that night were all the diners for the night. There werent any other diners that night after us and we really felt like the chef was sharing his/her art w us. Both co-owners are passionate about food & you can taste it in the food and feel it in t the details. My fiancé declared during the meal that this was one of the best meals of his life. Hearing him say that was one of the best moments of our trip! Thank you de Buhne for an unforgettable meal!

Simply the best good we have had in Bruges. Small restaurant serving delicious local food. Highly recommended for an evening meal.

    Reliva - Beet Amuse Bouche

Tasting menu:…read more Cauliflower Puree Amuse Bouche Beet Amuse Bouche Watermelon (heirloom tomatoes, spelt, Roux des Carmes) French Bouchot mussels (mussel consommé, spring onion, carrot, celery) Catch of the day (cod, baby potatoes, summer vegetables, lemon thyme sauce) Celeriac (blueberry, Nasturtium, lemon thyme sauce) Strawberry (rhubarb, almond crumble, lemon, buttermilk ice-cream) This was a totally unplanned visit, but we were tired of all the street junk food around Belgium (waffles, fries, mussels) and wanted something more vegetable forward. Reliva is in the heart of Bruges but seems like a total hidden gem. It's an affordable 4 (or 5) course menu, and it is very modern, European-style cuisine with a heavy emphasis on fresh, in-season ingredients. The restaurant is owned and operated by two people, a couple. Lien Vandeputte is the chef, and she handles all of the cooking, kitchen, and menu-setting. Her partner, Cédric, does all the front of the house, including waiting tables and recommending wine pairings. They've been at this for 15+ years, and they still look very young, so they must have started when they were very young. But they run the restaurant really well. We got one regular menu and one garden (vegetarian) menu. The only difference between these is the regular menu had two meat options (fish of the day or an in-season venison), while the vegetarian menu had a celeriac dish instead. I went with the fish, which was a cod. We also chose to do 4 courses instead of 5. The fifth course would have been a ceviche. The menu started off with two amuse bouches. Both were interesting and quite substantial. The cauliflower puree in particular was a standout. It was just bursting with cauliflower flavor. I really am curious how she managed to pull off so concentrated of a flavor. The beet dish was a bit more traditional, but it had some really hard bits for texture, which we later found out was spelt. The next course was the salad course, with a pretty typical fresh tomato salad. I thought this was probably the weakest course, but even this was still very well balanced. It was citrusy and acidic, and the vegetables were definitely very much in season. The next course is a play on Belgian mussels. All the shells were already removed, so we just got a very highly concentrated bowl of consommé. As with the other dishes, it was bursting with flavor, despite being very limited in quantity. The cod came out perfectly cooked, tender but still definitively cooked. It was seasoned well, and the soup and sauce that came with it accompanied it well. The vegetable entree with the celeriac as centerpiece was even better. It had many of the same sauce components of the cod, but the celeriac itself was extremely well cooked. We later asked how it was made, and we found out that it requires a long cook in the oven at very low temperatures. The result was an extremely tender but still tasty celeriac. The final course was a traditional strawberry and cream dessert with the twist of adding rhubarb. The rhubarb completely made the dish, as the acidity and general fruitiness of it played well with the more classic flavor of the strawberries and cream. The almond crumble also was crucial, providing the necessary texture and fun element to the dessert. We didn't do the wine pairings because we had both already been drinking a lot during the day (across two Belgian beer brewery tours!), but we did a nice glass of Chardonnay and also a Chenin dessert wine, which was lovely. If we ever find ourselves back in Bruges again, I would very happily visit Reliva again and experience whatever Lien and Cédric decide to serve us.

We chose the three course dinner with wine pairing. We sat outside behind the restaurant on their cozy patiolike garden terrace. We were treated to a complimentary 'amuse' before dinner. To everyone's surprise, every dish except dessert was better on the vegan tasting menu. There was just so much more depth of flavor brought to each dish with the mushrooms that the meat and fish just couldn't hold a flame too. It's just added bonuses that it's cheaper, better for you and better for the environment.

Reviews pointed us towards Patrick Devos, which is just one street over from the more bustling shopping / tourist area. This restaurant is actually part of a larger association called Alliance Gastronomique, which includes some other places we had been to in Amsterdam. The setting is beautiful with wood paneled rooms, wood floors, high ceilings, and drapes on the windows. Apparently, it's the beautifully preserved home of a former architect, and we got to sit in the front room, which was more private with only 4 tables. For much of the meal, it was actually just the 2 of us, which felt very exclusive. At dinner, have a 4 course option for €68 and a 6 course for €95. With pairings, it's €92 and €143, respectively. They also have a 4 and 6 course vegetarian options for less. For wines, we ended up going by the glass, and the Sauvignon blanc and Gamay off the tasting were both only €8/glass, which was extremely reasonable. The gamay was a standout because it had much more Brett funk than I've ever had in a gamay, which I usually find to be lighter. Amuses: - Quail egg with a tarragon emulsion and polenta crisp - Seaweed bread and brown bread with olive oil from Spain 6 Course Tasting: 1. Marinated smoked mackerel: with a radish / chicory / carrot / turnip kimchi, pickled Napa cabbage, fermented vegetables, mousse of spring peas and avocado, parsley coulis. It had tons of beautiful colors, flavors, and textures. The oyster leaf was an interesting addition. This was a great opening dish to get your appetite going. 2. Pan seared weever fish: I didn't know what to expect with weever fish, but this dish was deep in flavors with perfectly cooked cherry tomatoes, roasted bell pepper, saffron, turmeric mashed potatoes, romesco cream, and an amazingly rich fish and saffron reduction. I definitely used bread to sop up the extra sauce. 3. Pan seared lobster with seaweed, clams, artichoke, thinly sliced carrots around fideo, finished with a lobster sauce. The charred scallion and artichoke with the lobster were such great flavors 4. Grilled white and green asparagus, zucchini filled with wild garlic leaves (dried and fresh), wild garlic coulis - super fragrant from the garlic with great grill marks on the asparagus - a wonderful spring dish that leaves a subtle hint of garlic with you after you're done 5. John Dory: pan seared, with herb sauce, cauliflower couscous, millet, and roasted beetroot, topped with a fresh snow pea leaf. I'm essentially a pescatarian, and they were able to sub the regular duck dish with the fish while maintaining the other accompaniments. I did try the vadouvan quince paste with the duck, and it was great. 6. Cream mousseline with verbena, blackberries, strawberries, poached rhubarb, chantilly, lemon and mint jelly, and vervain ice cream. This was a beautiful desserts with so many colors, flavors, and textures. Though the venue looks more traditional, plating and composition of the dishes was certainly modern. Staff was unpretentious despite the more formal setting (we came under dressed after being in Bruges all day), and the diners varied from groups to a family with a dog to a solo diner. Dinner took about 3 hours, and they were very gracious about accommodating our need to be on a schedule to catch a train back to Brussels. In the end, for 2 people, 2 glasses of wine, and water, it was €212 total, which by SF Bay Area standards is a steal for the experience. I'm actually really surprised they don't have a Michelin star. I didn't expect to find this kind of fine dining experience on our day trip to Brugge, so it was an especially wonderful end to our day trip.
