Fort Worth Central Station-- Fort Worth, TX…read more The Historic Wall was dedicated on Feb. 24, 2002, to commemorate the important and vibrant African-American commercial and historic warehouse district that existed at the site of the Fort Worth Central Station between 1865 and 1940. Trinity Metro developed this display to perpetuate the economic and cultural contributions of this era. Panel A | 1865-1876: The first panel of the Historic Wall celebrates the infancy of Fort Worth. African Americans were among the cowboys driving cattle to the city, as well as owning saloons and other service businesses. The first recorded African-American businessman was John Pratt, a blacksmith, in 1865. Panel B | 1876-1900: In 1876, the train arrived in Fort Worth brining settlers of Chinese, Irish and Africa-American descent to live in the city. Other transportation options sprung up including the first horse-drawn trolley. Panel C | 1900-1920: By 1907, there were more than 50 African-American-owned businesses flourishing in the area including doctors, hotels, barbershops, dentists, tailors, millineries, butchers, grocers and beauty shops. Panel D | 1920-1930: This era marked the beginning of modernization in Fort Worth. Deliveries were made by motor cars, as there were no more horses and mules in town. The city and the African-American business district began to diversify. Panel E | 1930-1940: The jazz age came to Fort Worth in a big way with performances at the Ritz Theater and Jim Hotel and the Masonic Mosque. T. Bone Walker (just learned about him at a Blues Festival ), Mahalia Jackson, Pops Carter, local drummer Sonny Strain and many others were seen at local clubs wearing zoot suits and saddle shoes. #FortWorthCentralStation #HistoryLesson #FunFacts #TheMoreYouknow #BlackHistory

The station is at street level like many of the DART stations and there isn't a terrific amount of cover if the wind is blowing while the rain is falling down. Still, it gets the job done with the usual automated ticket vending machine on the platform. It is well lit at night and there is a decent amount of foot traffic in the area. Still, Dallas is a big city and you need to be aware of your surroundings. As the station is in downtown where the lines converge, this station is on the Red, Orange and Blue lines between St. Paul and Cityplace/Uptown. And it is also the last stop on the Green line between St. Paul and Deep Ellum.

It's on street level so it's fairly easy to access. However, be careful of all the traffic running around here. Also, the DART police frequent this stop, so be careful to follow all the rules specifically. For example, activate your pass far in advance of getting on the train, especially on your cell phone. If you do it immediately before getting on the train, apparently it is a ticket-able offense.

I kinda wish there was a center entrance to the platform but I understand with the way it's setup. Just affects the moments you're arriving right as your train arrives, but better planning helps. There are bus stops here but they are not currently utilized as no bus lines come here yet so another annoying issue arriving is golink stops in the center not at the end of the entrances. The silver line is not like the other DART lines... The doors don't open automatically, you have to push the button to open unless there's a conductor at the door opening for you, just a FYI for newcomers, but I am use to these trains as Trinity Metro's TexRail uses the same vehicles. When it rains you need to be careful as the blue large part of the platform is water resistant which becomes slippery. I slipped twice wearing new balance sneakers.
