On a hot Saturday evening, the outdoor cinema Eat See Hear descended upon Centennial Square in front of Pasadena City Hall. Dubbed "LA's premier outdoor movie, food truck, and live music event series", this summer-long traveling entertainment circus (since 2012) made its way across various iconic venues throughout Los Angeles with its unmistakeable 3 1/2-story tall inflatable high-definition screen deemed the "biggest of its kind on the West Coast". A self-contained event, you were allowed to bring your own chairs, food, etc.. Extremely pet-friendly with water bowls and treats placed throughout the venue, they tied themselves to the non-profit organization Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles and No Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) to help with pet adoption. Would this nostalgic return and revamped idea of the drive-in movie pull at my sentimental strings to return for more!?: General Admission Ticket/Seat ($14.00 + fees) - Purchased online (priced higher at the door the day of the event), this was open seating, so first come-first served. Armed with a low chair (ABSOLUTELY NO TALL CHAIRS), blanket, cushion, and pillow to sit on just in case, I happily claimed a spot center screen slightly away from the crowd on the concrete road https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Lxb9OOL4HaDWK3rIBs1Uaw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Tickets also gained access to food trucks and live pre-movie music performance. Below were other ticketing options (things brought were the same): 1. Fashionably Late Tickets ($21.00 + fees - online purchase only) offered a limited quantity of guaranteed open seating tickets in a reserved area at the front of the house that allowed you to arrive at any time (hopefully before the movie started!). 2. Kids 6-12 Tickets (approx. $8.00 + fees) offered the same as "General Admission" 3. Kids 5 & Under Tickets (FREE + fees) offered the same as "Kids 6-12 Tickets". 4. Groups of 10 or more had group rates available. Live Music - Lone Kodiak with its "campfire rock" offered an intimate hush to their music that initially reminded me Of Monsters And Men with occasional hints of aggressive jabs. I wasn't a fan of the pre-recorded and sampled parts which seemed to be the norm these days for many live performances, but I always appreciated live music regardless. Food Trucks - Listed were the assortment of food trucks present: Belly Bombz, Jogasaki Burrito, Postcards CAS (see separate review of my purchase), Pudding Truck, and Vchos Truck/Pupusas. All accepted credit cards. Vendors - From Air New Zealand, JackFM, Subaru, to Showtime (who gave away chairs!) were among some who supported and had giveaways. Service - The online purchase was a breeze. There could've been more pedestrian and street directional signage to the main entrance on Marengo Ave.. Marked signs once inside led you where to set up camp. Both audio and visual systems were surprisingly clean and clear. There were the customary long food truck lines akin to L.A. traffic without the bad drivers. I didn't happen to notice any ATM machines for those who needed cash. Generally-speaking, everything was fine and ran smoothly enough once. Parking (Varied - FREE this instance) - With the venue's proximity to the Memorial Park Gold Line Station, I went Metro from my hipsterhood ($3.50 roundtrip). Otherwise, there were plenty of metered and timed street parking around the area (valid until 6pm), and numerous parking structures. Another option would be to hire a driving service like a taxi, Lyft, or Uber. Atmosphere, décor, ambience - A large mostly concrete venue (closed sidewalks and streets) with small sections of grassy areas (a few trees shielded you from the sun) towards the outskirts, it was everyone for themselves as the gates opened and throngs of guests flooded in! To the left was the smoking area https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=w8rU6nuy6NPkMbcsWlfxeQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, and to the right were the food trucks and Porto-Potties. The stage was at the foot of the screen, but wished they had a camera that projected the performance onto the screen. Exposed to th elements, you heard random sounds from conversations, dogs barking, and vehicle traffic. No TVs but the aforementioned gigantic movie screen and live band. Attire - Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, Eat See Hear at Centennial Square in front of Pasadena City Hall was one of my favorite locations of theirs because of the easy access and beautiful backdrop. This concept was popular enough for others to imitate. The onsite staff were also very charming and helpful. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $16.00; no tip required). I was reluctant at first since the majority of the venue is concrete/pavement. However, my wife and I got there really early and got a really nice, shaded grassy spot. The DTLA skyline views are incredible--watching the sunset turn into city lights while the movie started made everything feel so romantic and magical. We snagged a loveseat, which was super comfy for cuddling up, and the wireless headphones gave us crystal-clear sound without any outside noise interrupting the classic lines and soundtrack. The vibe on the rooftop is relaxed but lively--great drinks and snacks to enjoy before the film starts. Pretty Woman felt even more special in this open-air setting; we were both smiling and quoting lines the whole time. My girlfriend absolutely loved it, and so did I. If you're looking for a fun, memorable way to watch a movie (especially a rom-com on a date), this is it. Highly recommend-- we'll definitely be back for more screenings!

Enter the hotel through the garage and you'll see signage for the Rooftop Cinema Club. About halfway down the garage, there'll be an attendant helping people up the elevator. It's a little bit of a maze but there's tons of signage and people to help along the way! I got the loveseat fire package and was able to choose either a complimentary hot chocolate or popcorn. Our seat was next to a real wood fire which was great for the cold LA night! There's also a bar - beers, wine, and canned cocktails available. There weren't any entree type of meals but there were tons of snacks like candy, chips, popcorn, hot dogs, and pretzels. They gave us Bluetooth headphones for the movie. The sound wasn't great - definitely not full frequency but it did the job. The headphone's clamp force was also quite tight. The seating is all first come first serve no matter what package you get. We came early to get good seats but honestly it didn't look like there was a bad seat in the house. The screen is up high and large so you could really sit anywhere and still have a good view. They also had games laid out to play while you waited for the movie to start. The whole staff was super friendly and helpful. Definitely a great experience! The only thing I would change is getting better quality headphones. Or allowing movie goers to bring their own headphones and connect via Bluetooth.

Tickets are bought online and range in price. Astro turf seating is $13 per person or $20 for two. No car parking is included (so you have to park outside the event) and you have to bring your own chair or rent one from them. Early Bird Car Entry + Driver is $28 ($20 for the car fee, $8 for the driver). Additional passengers are $8 per person. VIP is $75 and covers 1 car and 4 people for front row seating (just behind the astro turf area). Doors open either an hour or an hour & a half before showtime. When we scoped out the place, there was a sign that said exactly when the doors were going to be opened in the driveway. Since we had time (we were a wee bit too early), we went around the corner to get some grub. When we came back, we were second in line roughly a half hour before opening. Not too shabby and I definitely recommend showing up early to get a good spot (unless you're a VIP fancy pants). The line formed shortly after and wrapped around to Central. Pro tip - don't be a jerkasaurus and try to cut in line! The employees do notice anyone trying to pull a fast one and will make you go to the back of the line. Electric Dusk Drive-In is located off of Central Ave and California Ave in the old Sears parking lot. You cannot turn left into the parking lot on California! You have to enter from Central so that you turn right into the lot and don't block traffic. It was entertaining seeing so many people not grasp this simple idea. Once inside, the employees will scan your tickets and direct you where to park. If you want to back up and watch from your trunk, tell them and they'll help you out. If you're worried about your car battery dying out - bring your own radio or you can rent a transistor radio from them. If you listen via your car radio and it dies, they'll help jumpstart your car after the show. For restrooms, they provide two porta potties in the back side along with a hand washing station. If you're feeling munchy, they have a concession stand near the entrance but I'd encourage just getting your food beforehand from any eatery around the area (The Great White Hut is directly across the street). If you're thinking about trying Electric Dusk Drive-In, stop thinking and just do it already! They have a wide variety of movies to choose from (some are double-features) so you're covered no matter your taste of genre. It's such a fun nostalgic night and I can't wait to go back!

Every Friday, I find myself here, slipping away from the noise of everyday life to just sit back and take it all in. There's this familiar, almost haunting feeling as I settle in, like the quiet echoes of a simpler time when life had fewer responsibilities and the weekends felt endless. It reminds me of the freedom of youth--those days when we'd get together just to laugh, talk, and sometimes just sit, high on life and each other's company. Coming here alone gives me space to think, and maybe I'm pining for something that's already slipped away. There's a beauty in watching everyone gathered, all ages connected in the moment of a shared movie under the open sky. Couples sit close together, holding hands behind the truck beds, while kids are practically bouncing as their parents grab popcorn and candy, their joy so pure and unrestrained. This place is a gem, perfect for unwinding, reflecting, or even sharing a quiet evening with someone special. The staff here are warm and attentive, and the food choices are simple but affordable. With plenty of room between cars, you get enough privacy to feel like you're in your own world but not so alone that you can't feel the presence of others sharing the night. It's a place to escape, to remember, and to take life just a bit slower

I heard about the Tribeca Drive-In At The Rose Bowl last year during the first COVID-19 summer and was interested to go since I loved and attended many of the other non-drive-in outdoor cinema events. However, I felt it was still too early to be out in the wild while COVID was still raging on. Fast-forward to 2021, and Tribeca decided to return for a second season with COVID conditions slightly better than 2020 (the Delta variant continued to spread as of this review), so I gathered a few friends and excitedly checked this out for several nights to watch "Wayne's World" https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=E-DeGOiEzuvWmRAiDYrDvA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and "Purple Rain" https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=bfHeeYNqgJM86JCXf7C50g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Was this worth the wait to get us all out of our homes!? PURCHASE General Admission Per Vehicle ($30.00 x3 + $5.00 fee x3): Purchased online (I believed the price was the same at the door the day of the event but possibly higher a fee), this was open parking so first come-first served although it seemed there might've been VIP tickets that placed you closer to the screen. You were allowed to be outside your vehicle but must maintain very close proximity. And upon check-in, you were handed information for which radio channel to tune in to https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=XFUe-mQef7rVwtwlWBgFfA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and how to order food through the DoorDash app https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=teK8iIeffho06nAUx5iFgw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Chicken Kabobs ($17.00): This was one massive skewer of thick pieces of nicely marinated juicy tender chicken along with an assortment of sliced green bell peppers, cucumbers, and onions served with a side of spicy dipping sauce. I surprisingly bought this pricey food item which thankfully didn't disappoint except for a lighter wallet. This definitely filled me up for the rest of the evening but probably wouldn't order it again https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=XSb87k8V1Jm2M9QFQ8nVDQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Seasoned Curly Fries w/Jalapeño Cheese Sauce ($8.00): A massive amount of curled spuds I swore the basket it came in was either bottomless or somehow never-ending! The cheese sauce had a nice spicy hotness to it but ran out of it halfway through my potato plantation which was fine since the fries tasted fine without it. With a nice crispiness in each bite until you reached the bottom where they were softer due to the moisture, not a bad meal at all; but this was a lot of fries to deal with for one person https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jGpOSdzS3xcrVAHv1AhH1A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. But once you arrived, the ticketing and parking staff, respectively, were friendly and helpful. Both audio and visual systems were very clean and clear. I didn't recall any onsite ATM machines. They even do movie previews for about 15mins. All the covid precautions are put in place and well managed. Vehicles are even staggered and given plenty of space to get out of your vehicle to stretch if needed. A few even parked backwards to sit in the back of their open suv areas. Watching movies on a rooftop with headphones, cozy seating, and the city atmosphere around you is honestly unmatched. I love the movie selection. They always have great films in rotation, especially nostalgic and romantic classics. Watching The Notebook here was unforgettable. It was romantic, funny, and somehow perfectly timed because it started lightly drizzling during the rain scene on screen. It made the whole moment feel surreal and cinematic. I believe the first popcorn is either free or included with the ticket, which is a really nice touch. The food and drinks are solid, and the overall vibe is relaxed but thoughtfully curated. Definitely bring your own blankets, especially on cloudy or cooler nights, because it gets extra cozy. One tip is to always check the weather before going, since it is an outdoor rooftop experience. That said, the atmosphere is worth it, and I will absolutely keep booking here whenever I'm in the mood for a nostalgic movie night with a unique twist. We checked in at the front entrance and took the slow-moving elevator up to the rooftop. It wasn't a huge deal, but definitely something that stood out. When we got to the top, we were asked to fill out a waiver on our phones--super quick and easy, but honestly something that could've been done earlier when buying tickets online. Parking in the area was $20 at a lot across the street. Not terrible for a Friday night in LA, but still worth mentioning. Your ticket includes skate rental and one drink, so we grabbed a Paloma (the other option was not available) which hit the spot. Unfortunately, the skating surface was a bit of a letdown--treaded hard plastic mats that didn't offer a smooth ride. It took a lot of effort to move and wasn't beginner-friendly. Plus there was a tricky spot that tripped up more than a few skaters. The biggest surprise was the low energy overall--music was pretty quiet, and the vibe felt more relaxed than festive. We expected more of a party atmosphere for a Friday night rooftop in the heart of LA. It was still fun to do something different and hang out with our group, but unless they upgrade the floor or amp up the energy, it's probably a one-and-done for us. Tips: - Allow extra time for the elevator to the 3rd floor. - $20 parking lot across the street. - 1 Drink included, so grab one and make the most of it!

Dubbed "LA's premier outdoor movie, food truck, and live music event series", this annual summer-long traveling entertainment circus (since 2012) made its way across various iconic venues throughout Los Angeles with its unmistakeable 3 1/2-story tall inflatable high-definition screen deemed the "biggest of its kind on the West Coast". A self-contained event, you were allowed to bring your own chairs, food, etc.. Pet-friendly with water bowls and treats throughout the venue, they tied themselves to the non-profit organization Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles and No Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) to help with pet adoption. Would this nostalgic return and revamped idea of the drive-in movie pull at my sentimental strings to return for more!? PURCHASE General Admission Ticket/Seat ($14.00 + fees) - Purchased online (priced higher at the door the day of the event), this was open seating, so first come-first served. Armed with a low chair (ABSOLUTELY NO TALL CHAIRS), blanket, cushion, and pillow to sit on just in case, I claimed an unobstructed spot center screen at the very top of the seating area. 2. Kids 12 & Under Tickets (approx. $8.00 + fees) offered the same as "General Admission". 3. Groups of 10 or more had group rates available. Live Music - A four-piece male band from Jackson Hole, Wyoming named "WYO" played fun 80's alternative music that reminded me of Flesh For Lulu and The House Of Love from that decade which I was a fan of. With a minimal pre-recorded backtrack, I appreciated that they played their own instruments - true talent https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=HdGGHe4SbGAcONOZA91WdQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! Food Trucks - The Fix Burgers, Street Kitchen, Blast Ice Cream, Pickle & Pea, White Rabbit (see separate review), and more. All accepted credit cards https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Z-gG0HFJcXYyrSx6aJuREg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Vendors - 94.7 FM The Wave https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=UQ4CxzvIjjBsJYvg3kUrzw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, AT&T, and title sponsor Showtime (who gave away chairs!) were supporting partners who had giveaways. SERVICE The online purchase was a breeze. There was excellent pedestrian and street directional signage to the main entrance of The Autry Museum https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=YvykGmC-6ncXMnLX9JLRCg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Marked signs once inside led you where to set up camp, restroom area, etc.. Both audio and visual systems were surprisingly clean and clear. There were the customary long food truck lines akin to L.A. traffic without the bad drivers. There were no onsite ATM machines. Generally-speaking, everything was fine and ran smoothly. PARKING (FREE) Plenty of FREE parking at The Autry Museum and L.A. Zoo across the street. Another option would be to hire a driving service like a taxi, Lyft, or Uber, and there was a nearby bus station - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A large open-air grass field https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=QvLGVWZmAHmiCZLCNiFYLA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, it was everyone for themselves as the gates opened and throngs of guests flooded in! Designated smoking areas were in the parking lot or front of the museum. Upon entering, you passed the food trucks and sponsors area, then the lawn, and finally the porta-potties on both sides of the screen. The stage was at the foot of the screen, but wished they had a camera that projected the performance onto the screen. Exposed to the elements, you heard random sounds from conversations, dogs barking, and vehicle traffic, etc.. The aforementioned gigantic movie screen was your TV while DJ Carter and the live band provided the music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Eat See Hear on the lawn of The Autry Museum was my favorite location because of its closeness to home, beautiful surroundings, and a ton of free parking. This concept was popular enough for others to imitate. The onsite staff were very charming and helpful. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $16.00; no tip required). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 5.0 STARS
