Mark Phillips and Ryan Phillips were both terrific. The one we voted for did indeed win, but they were both great! The Saturday we were there, there were two performances. We chose the 5pm one. It's a fast-paced show that kept us laughing, intrigued and highly entertained. A very fun, wonderful way to spend entertainment dollars in DC. Not a bad seat in the house! This is downstairs in the historic Mayflower Hotel, nice and close to the Farragut North Metro Stop. Definitely appropriate for all ages. Highly recommend!

I recognize that the Magic Duel takes huge pride in 5 star reviews on Yelp, which I deeply respect. But I did wish that we had seen the show in a different venue. I am no stage expert, but lights and sound do matter a lot in delivery of a magic show for a skeptic like me, going because the significant other loves magic shows. With better lighting, things would have been more "magical" (thinking bottles.) I was also surprised that a bubble artist, as good as she was in her profession, was considered a magician. After some quick research, you will end up at Magic Duel in this genre, so please go to Dupont or Georgetown.

Recently finished Mike Harris' Intro to Improv 101 course (7 week course)- it was a blast. Had fun and learned a lot. As a student you get to go to all BIG's shows for free which is nice, good learning opportunity. They have various types of improv shows every Thurs-Sat nights, been to several and enjoyed them. Highly recommend taking a course or seeing a show. Am now in Michael Furr's standup comedy class which has been amazing so far. Aesthetics wise, it's no luxury theatre (they rely on donations and grants to stay operating, so this is understandable!) but it gets the job done and is homey. Convenient location near a few local bars. Parking Tip: If attending an evening show, get there early if you want to find easy street parking right out front (cheap, pay via kiosk or Parkmobile app). There's a parking garage across the street that's $5 if you tell them you're there for the theatre.

The two item minimum has never been a problem for me with the DC swiss burger and an angry orchard coming out to about $35 after tip. I just factor that into the cost since the tickets for the show are usually pretty cheap. Booked tickets well in advance via Vivid Seats and bought the event protection. The interior was smaller than I expected, definitely a homey feel. We arrived an hour early to pick up our tickets at Will Call, painless quick process. Host led us to our seats and was friendly. We sat close to the front. Average waiting time to get our food for a busy comedy club, the old bay fries and burrito were pretty good! Needed improvement: Our server wasn't smiling at all, did the bare minimum. My husband ordered two items that were featured in one of their combo specials and didn't notice, a great server would've pointed out that it's more cost effective to order the combo, but she didnt. left a low tip as feedback, figured that would get the message across. She then came back to ask if everything was okay with the service when we were trying to pay attention to the show- didn't feel like explaining then, so explaining here. Other servers however appeared friendlier. Pro tip: if you want to get picked on by the comedian, sit towards the front in the center, that's where it's lit and he/she and the camera can actually see you. Or the tables flanking the stage. Parking tip: the garage right next to the theatre is $17, suggest parking there rather than the pricier $25 one around the corner across the street! We realized this after. Would def come back to see another show.

Having been to a number of DMV comedy venues (DC Improv, Baltimore Comedy Factory) where the whole 'two item' minimum requirement forces you to pick between a mid, under/over cooked food item and watered down $17 drink, I've been admittely blown away by how good the food/beverage offerings here are. The only caveat is the price, but hey, a comics gotta eat too! It's tucked away in a bit of an obscure corner (my Uber drivers always get confused) but the performance spaces are decently large. Just make sure you get there early to nab a good seat. At a bigger name shows, a 5-minute delay could have you craning to see the onstage talent. Bathrooms here are tiny tiny tinyyyy, and if you're above the BMI for your height, you truly might have a hard time getting in through the doors. When evaluated against the competition, I think Comedy Loft comes out pretty solid.

Food looked good, and although I didn't try anything I mingled with fellow early arrivals and they all said the garlic wings were outstanding and one of the servers said the fried mozzarella sticks were their most popular item. The location is the previous and legendary Brickskeller, so those of us that have flowed in and out of DC over the last 25 years may find this place familiars. Anyway, your group can reserve sections or you can come alone. There's a place for everyone and all are welcomed. FYI, there's a two "item" minimum required purchase, which can be food or beverage items. Key to know that you must order these in the comedy room that you'll be seeing the show, or it doesn't count towards the two item minimum. Anyway, cool place, comfortable seating, great service, and awesome comedy!
