In all my years as both a player and a coach, I have not seen another institution such as HP Elite and Beyond when it comes to elite soccer training. I've seen player after player emerge from this program to become incredibly successful people with careers in soccer ranging from players to coaches and trainers. I personally take my youth teams that I coach to train with HP every off-season and most of my more dedicated players take part in their training clinics year-round. There's honestly no better soccer training company in Northern Virginia for youth players. It was an important part of my upbringing and part of who I am today. The Club was founded in 1964 as a chapter of the National Boys and Girls Club and is the first in the State of Maryland to hold that distinction. They offer soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, cheerleading and my sport, football. You can do recreational leagues or travel leagues (which they did not have when I was coming up), if you so choose. They have some of the best facilities that you can find at any Boys and Girls Club in the area. The ages run from 3 to 16 years old and they have some really good volunteer coaches. The people filling those roles are not just coaches, but they are role models. Their field is located behind the Clinton Library is is a first class field that has a lighted football field with scoreboard, bleachers and elevated announcer's booth. There is also a shelter there with picnic tables under it and more than ample parking available. You will also find 3 softball/baseball fields, some soccer fields and a bunch of green space here too. The grounds are maintained pretty well and the field is closed to vehicle traffic outside of an event or practice occurring there. This is a first class organization and the fees to participate are very reasonable. I highly recommend this Club for kids. It teaches them more than just a sport as it was vital to my development of friendships, and as a person.

I spent about five hours at the Yards location this week to thoroughly evaluate it before committing as I've been getting spammed in the mail, and I'm glad I did. The staff's attitude was consistently condescending, from the Senior Membership Advisor (Saad Siddiqui) upselling me, person trainers roaming around the facility, to the people at front desk. My main issue how the staff addressed my comment about the soft flooring in the free-weight area, which is completely unsuitable for barbell squats. When I brought this up, the staff condescendingly told me to just use the Smith machine or use the Olympic platform, completely dismissing a valid safety concern. There was a Titan Fitness safety squat bar (SSB) that I had no idea how much it weighed. I asked two person trainers (you'll see PT and their clients everywhere in the gym) how much the bar weighed. The PTs said they had no idea and left it at that. The front desk staff was equally apathetic. I've had better customer service at Planet Fitness for a tiny fraction of the cost. This place is motivated about locking you into their membership plan and signing you up to the many classes and services they offer. This place is not it and I highly recommend looking elsewhere in the DC area.

Speaking of which the sauna is super popular, they really need to build out a bigger one as its too small.
