I have a 3 year old Lab/Hound mix. I actually think she has either Jack Russell or Demon from Hell mixed in! She is fantastic at home, on a leash, at the dog park, etc. But when I first brought her in to the vet's office, she caused a scene. She did this high pitched whine/cry/yell thing at high decibels. She always causes little old ladies to scoop up their cats and move to the other side of the waiting room. Its embarassing, and annoying to others. Seriously, using a vet that comes to my house, after work? I can't even fathom going through the ordeal of a waiting room anymore. I've personally had Dr Warford come out for Shots, followups, and a couple of behavior consults.My dog loves Dr. Warford. Wags are so much better then her whining. Also, the business hours work so much better for me, then trying to squeeze in a vet office visit during workdays. Evenings, and weekends are usually ok. The price is a little higher, but not much different than going to a clinic. read more

WOW! Doctor and staff were both amazing. They were so great with my cat that I think she wanted to leave with them ;-) Since I was moving to another state in less than a week, I wanted to get my cat checked out before the flight. DC MetroVet was able to fit me in. They gave my cat an exam and a vaccine. I was nervous about the shot because it was her first since I adopted her, and the cat didn't even meow, squirm, nothing-- I don't think she realized she had a shot! They were super nice to my cat and explained everything to me. Since, I don't have a car, their house call service was a major time saver for me, and I think my kitty would say she prefers this approach too. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended. It's rare to get service this good for anything in DC, and when it comes to our little companions, only the best will do-- DC MetroVet is the BEST! read more

After 3 emails, one providing the very detailed information requested by their automated email response, and at least 1 voice message, I never received anything back from them! Very disappointed as they seemed like a good fit for my needs. I understand from further research that mobile vets are in very high demand, but some response seemed warranted. I debated leaving a review of DC Metro Vet at all, but it's been a month and a half since this happened and I'm still upset enough that I thought I should. Earlier this year, our cat became ill on a Friday and clearly needed medical attention. We communicated with Dr. Warford and set up an appointment for the following Tuesday, planning on nursing our cat through the weekend and following Monday. As the weekend went on, however, it became clear that she wasn't going to make it, and that it was probably time to say goodbye. I emailed Dr. Warford again, letting her know that she should come prepared for euthanasia. No response, but I figured it was the weekend and she'd at least check before coming to our house. I took off work on Tuesday to be there for our 8AM appointment, and we spent the remaining time giving our cat as much love as possible. Very early Tuesday morning, however, she passed away on her own. Thinking it was too late to contact the vet before our appointment, I settled down to wait for her arrival, so I could at least let them know what happened and pay for the visit. Around 7:40AM I got an email saying that Dr. Warford would be unable to make it for our 8AM appointment, and to let her know if this posed a problem. This after letting her know that we were expecting to have to put our cat to sleep. Somewhat upset, I emailed back to let her know about the situation and ask for advice on cremation options. No response. I was finally left with the job of googling cremation services and driving my cat's body up to Frederick that morning. Two or three days later, I received a response from Dr. Warford saying that she'd been ill and that's why the appointment had been cancelled. Also that they're a small business and can't respond in crisis situations (or words to that effect). No acknowledgment that she'd received the email about euthanasia, and no response to my email about cremation. For a business that conducts all its communications via email, and apparently has three staff members, I'm stunned that important emails like this were never even acknowledged. We were pretty much just left on our own. This was the second time that Dr. Warford had canceled an appointment at the very last minute, but coming at such a difficult time, it especially felt like a betrayal. We specifically started using DC Metro Vet because we had an older cat and we expected to have to put her to sleep, and wanted to do it at home where she'd be most comfortable. We're "lucky" that she died on her own, otherwise we would have been left scrambling to make alternative arrangements with a strange practice to end the suffering of our cat of 17 years. I understand that this is a small business, but they have to understand how much trust people are putting in them. This was a failure at all levels, and at no point did it feel like anyone was listening to us or reading our emails. It added immensely to the pain of that difficult time. We certainly won't be able to use or trust DC Metro Vet again, which is a shame. Our experiences until this point had been OK, but this was just too much of a failure to excuse. read more

We had noticed that our beloved cat wasn't as mobile as usual and, since she is getting on a bit, we made an appointment with DC MetroVet for a home visit check up. Dr JD Warford and assistant (sorry I can't remember your name - it was early! But I really did like your hat) stopped by this morning and we couldn't be happier with the service. Dr. Warford performed an exam in our living room and although our cat is not a fan of strangers, it was a lot less stressful than being stuffed in a box for a car ride. Dr. Warford explained what she was checking throughout the exam and gave a thorough explanation of the problems she found and what we could do to help (bit of arthritis on the hips and leg and wear and tear on the spine - poor kitty!). We will definitely be calling DC MetroVet again. read more

I followed the sites directions by contacting them via email, and I didn't get a response until 6 days later, which directed me to send additional information by email. Such a wonderful experience! We made an appointment for our 14 year old French Bulldog, Daisy, who has been having some health issues. Dr. Warford and Kim were both so lovely, they put me and Daisy at ease from the start. They took time getting to know Daisy and understand all of our concerns. My first experience with DC metro vet was pleasant enough. The vet and her assistant were on time, professional, and seemed to genuinely care about animals. They ran heartworm tests on our dogs, and gave good advice regarding our elderly cat. The animals liked them. It was fine. However, when our elderly cat took a down hill turn on Thursday night, I called them and left a voicemail, then used the euthanasia request for on their websitr. Checked same day service. Sat around all day Friday with my dying cat, who now refuses all water and food. I really assumed they'd at least get back to me today, Saturday... but no. About 30 minutes after their office closing hours, they sent me a form letter, advising me to check their website for my options. (Something I did on Friday morning, mind you.) Now, at 4pm on saturday, the Saturday before mothers day, I'm scrambling to find someone who can come and end my cats suffering. This complete disregard-in the age of Internet and smart phones, don't tell me you are a small office and therefore can't see messages-is astonishing. We will not be using them again for any of our pets. read more

Last Friday we had to face the sad moment of saying goodbye to our 14 year old dog. We wanted to make the experience as stress-free as possible for our companion, so looked for a vet who could come into our home. Dr. Warford and her staff provided us with all the information we needed in advance, arrived promptly for the appointment, and were so gentle with him, and us, as she explained the procedure, what was happening at each step, and guided him peacefully from this life. At at time when we were devestated and heartbroken to find that our kitty was about to pass, we found Dr. Warford. We decided to give our kitty at-home hospice/palliative care because she really hated being at the emergency vet. She was scared. We brought her home and she purred and was so happy to be home. We knew we'd have to make the decision and I found DC MetroVet because I wanted our kitty to be at home in her own spot when she passed. Dr. Warford was extremely kind, patient, and very caring. She explained everything and made sure that we knew what would happen. Her and her technician were wonderful to our kitty as well. She was comfortable with them, and we were comfortable with them. It was so peaceful and we wouldn't have wanted it any other way for our 16 year old baby cat. read more

What an amazing service! Dr. Warford and her staff provide excellent veterinary care for pets and their owners who maybe have difficulty getting to a vet's office for whatever reason. I just required an updated physical exam, an updated rabies shot, and a nail clip for my cat, but they were on time, thorough, and efficient. After a trip to the emergency vet a few years ago for a urinary blockage, our normally outgoing, friendly, confident and loving tuxedo cat Oliver turns into a murderous, terrified monster when we physically bring him to the vet's office. We've had several DC vets offices ask us to not return. Switching to DC Metro Vet was the best decision ever. Dr. Warford and staff came to our apartment this weekend for Oliver's exam and vaccinations. We successfully fooled the cat - he just thought it was another visitor that came to admire him and pay attention to him. The exam and vaccination happened in the blink of an eye - I don't even think Oliver noticed. The whole thing was entirely zero stress and we are so excited to have found DC Metro Vet. We received lots of information via email and were prepared for the visits. They arrived on time at the beginning of the one hour window and were fantastic with an anxious owner and cat! I have a very nervous cat. He doesn't like to be handled. Our current vet has more or less given up on him because he was uncooperative the one time we were able to get him into the vet's office. One would think that a veterinarian whose website goes on at great length about how home visits can ease pets' anxiety (and how behavioral issues sadly lead to many euthanizations). However, DC MetroVet refuses to even meet my cat. Very disheartening. I guess they are actually waiting for me to euthanize my cat, as they offer in-home euthanasia??? read more

Why hadn't I found DC MetroVet earlier? I had an aged cat who just couldn't tolerate vet visits, hissing, crying, vomiting, peeing, ect. It was traumatic for both of us. My cat was 18 and I started to notice her extreme weight loss, and she stopped eating and using her box. I knew the time had come. I contacted DC MetoVet. The email you get from your first inquiry is very informative. I had time to consider all options. They came out to our condo for an initial visit. The vet and her tech were friendly, kind, empathetic, calm, and supportive. They did an exam and gave me an idea of what to expect if I weren't going to do further evaluation/treatment. Sure enough, I just needed a few more days to "decide" and called them back to schedule a time to put my cat to sleep. They were so kind. It was a really calming but sad experience, I know I made the right decision, DC MetroVets helped me through a hard time and they really have the pet and people skills to treat pets and their owners. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Warford and her staff. We made the very difficult but very necessary decision to put down our 6 year old cat who was diagnosed with lymphoma. I decided not to do the euthanasia at the vet but instead to do it at home. I had never met Dr. Warford until that very day. Making the appointment was very easy, and she was very flexible with her schedule. She came into an apartment with two people she had never met, who were uncontrollably sobbing the entire time, and really helped take out the stress and put a little ease into the situation. Putting down a pet is one of the hardest things to do in life, but I was so relieved and thankful to have Dr. Warford there. She and her staff made the whole situation that much easier. read more

UPDATED -- Upgraded from one to three stars, see below Like a previous reviewer, our first experience with DC MetroVet was excellent. They were prompt and professional. My cat gets extremely nervous going to the vet's office, and being examined in our home helped a ton with his anxiety. Unfortunately, he has a recurring autoimmune condition which requires periodic treatment when flareups occur. He had a flare up this past weekend and they gave me a Wednesday appointment with an arrival window between 1 and 3 pm. I would have preferred something sooner because my cat's condition is very painful to him, but I figured waiting a couple of days to save him the extreme anxiety of the vet's office was worth it. I was so wrong. Not only did they blow their arrival window, they NEVER SHOWED UP. This was after demanding that I provide them with the cat's previous medical records the day of their scheduled arrival -- which I did. You might think that someone from their office called to let me know no one was coming or to try to reschedule. WRONG. No one called. No one responded to my emails. Nothing. Now, I have a cat in serious pain who hasn't eaten all day and half a day wasted waiting around for the vet who never showed up. I'll have to take my cat to the dreaded vet's office anyway and I just put him through three more days of unnecessary pain for this business. I strongly advise that you do not depend on these people. UPDATE: About five minutes after I posted this review I finally got an email from this office. They claimed that my appointment had actually been scheduled for the next day. I sent them the original scheduling email showing the error and they eventually offered to come the next day and give me a 10% discount. They claimed the assistant had suffered a family emergency which caused her to give me the wrong date and time. Fine, but that still does not excuse their total lack of communication for 7 hours while I was waiting for someone to come to my home. However, because my cat was in such bad shape and I would not be able to take him to a vet until next week, I accepted. This time, they showed up on time and were very, very professional and gentle with my cat while they were here. Dr. Warford answered all questions thoughtfully and there was no rush. Because of her treatment, I have changed my rating from 1 to 3 stars. read more

We called DC MetroVet last fall for help with our aging cats. J.D.Warford came to our house, calmed the cats and helped us deal with their various medical issues with minimal stress on the cats--and on the family! Dr. Warford is wonderful; our cats love her, she answers email, is flexible on timing of visits and is reasonably priced. Our cats, both 18 years old, are doing much better than I expected, certainly very well for their age and their ailments, and they don't have to take a drive and deal with waiting room angst to get their treatment. I highly recommend Dr. Warford and her "come to you" practice. Also, Dr. Warford's business partner offers pet-sitting, which is a godsend to families with older animals who may need medication administered but prefer not to have them caged at a veterinary office. And we get reassuring emails as to how things are going. We can now travel without *undue* worry (one always worries about their elderly pets, right?). read more

A few months ago I made the tough decision that my dog of 12 years would need to be put down. Looking through my options, we decided that an at home euthanasia would be best since my dog didn't do too well during car rides. That's how I came across Dr. Warford and her website. Jessica was quick and efficient in responding to my emails and getting all my information. When the day came to say goodbye, Dr. Warford and her assistant, Kim, were very warm and friendly. They answered all our questions without hesitation and understood the difficulty of finally making that decision. She was also reasonably priced for the services needed and for a house call vet. Their bed side manner was also the best I've seen and they were very patient, even with us crying all over the place. I would definitely recommend to others and at some point when we do get another pet, Dr. Warford will be my first choice. read more
