The mice aftermath (3 of 3).
    Asha C.

I've stayed here a total of two times. Once for a conference in 2016 (I didn't book the accomodations) and right now (Jun 16-27), and if there were any other options for accomodations, I would be out of here right now. I had to unfortunately extend my stay out, and, while I've been here, there have been bedbugs, a consistently leaking A/C unit, mice eating through my food, no hot water in the showers, and the occassional roach passing through to say hello. I understand you get what you pay for, but mice traps and roach spray aren't that expensive. I'm only here because this trip was highly last minute, but I would much rather sleep in my car than take my chances here again. I would avoid this property and any others associated with this management company for fear of a repeat experience.

    Some more bed bug bites

WORST hostel experience of my entire life. Bed bugs!!! They ate me alive!!! Management is HORRIBLE. When I first suspected it was bed bugs, I told an employee and showed him the bites all over my back; being an untrained unprofessional like the rest of them, he told me no one else in the room had complained, and made me put my own new sheets on my bed. The next morning I woke up with new bites so I tore apart the room and ended up finding a total infestation in the wood. I ran upstairs to tell the same employee & when I asked him for trash bags to isolate my clothes he told me to give him 10 minutes to smoke a cigarette. I'm beyond myself at this point because I was intending on staying for over a week (I was working for a big brand auto company at the auto show) and I had work in an hour and nowhere to go. I needed to wash my clothes immediately but they wouldn't let me use the washer or dryer. I wanted a FULL REFUND like anyone would after being bitten for four nights!!! The employee told me I could go to the nearby laundry mat & they would refund me for that too. Oh just wait, that was a LIE. I ended up having to miss three hours of work to do laundry (my boss didn't want me potentially spreading the bugs to the rest of the staff or guests). The employee told me that I had to email DC Lofty management to even initiate a refund. At this point I am out hundreds of dollars, missed three hours of work, and covered in bites. It was MISERABLE. But just wait ladies and gentlemen, it gets so much worse. I had to wait over a week for an email reply, which I didn't even receive until I called all three Capital View hostels demanding someone talk to me. The email I did get was a series of the MOST unprofessional nastiness I've ever seen from an establishment. "Tom" (a manager supposedly) wrote that I could only be refunded for the nights I hadn't stayed and that they were refusing to cover an laundry/medical supplies/cleaning fees. He also attached links to buy RAID on Amazon, and told me "it sucks but it happens". Who the fuck is Tom? He wouldn't give me his last name, or talk to me on the phone. I kept calling the hostels to get someone to talk to me or even get someone's NAME!! The employees have all been instructed to not give management names or numbers. Do not go here. I ended up getting a hold of the same employee who I dealt with while I was there and he cussed out my mom and I. I am filing a lawsuit and they're not getting away with this like they do anyone else. Nah bro. You thought. It's unsanitary, dirty, and there's no hot water on half the house (and management doesn't care). They can afford to open a new hostel but not to buy two new water heaters?? Fuck this place. Y'all will hear from the health department and my lawyer. Ahhh and I called my bank lol got some my money back!

    Room 12

Expect the following: - A cold room (at least the ones that are downstairs). - Rude owner (I don't care if she doesn't feel cold in the room I'm going to sleep in). - 1 towell for all the time you stay there. - Nothing to dry your hands with in the bathrooms (well, except toilet paper). - Very small bathroom and shower. And pretty old too. - Location is good. - Common areas are ok.

By no means a great place to stay... Showers were persistently cold and the staff were somewhat elusive.

I told them the air was broken in my pod and they told me I could move the next morning. When I went down, they said they were full and couldn't move me. I couldn't stay in a hotbox again so I stayed somewhere else. They offered me a free coffee as compensation. the prime location is the only reason I'm not giving zero stars. It's close to the nightlife, food spots and metro. I would avoid if you can afford to.

I showed up with my luggage at around 14:00 hrs. and the employee at the front desk didn't even respond to my greetings. Every question I asked went unanswered. Rude to say the least. As soon as I gave him my ID, which he did not request respectfully. He barked: check in is at 3PM!. I responded that even in boutique hotels they cut you some slack. No response. So, I asked if I could leave my luggage there, and again, rude, responded, $5.00 per piece! I asked for my IDs and went back to the Zena and left my luggage there free. The first impression is important and the one I got of this place was terrible with this employee. He argued with me in a few occasions, he's absolutely impolite, and seems not clean and moody. Every request was encountered with a rude response and an argument. Terrible! Seems to hate his job there. When I commented about it with roommates, they all felt the same way. Now, the evening and afternoon employees were very nice and polite! Unfortunately the dark man with the beard that is there in the morning takes all the good and turns it negative.

Not at all what I found at Duo - the staff were courteous and very helpful, the very nice bathroom and kitchen facilities were clean and well-supplied, and the beds, while no frills, were comfortable, warm and clean. There was a mix of residents, in terms of age (at 40 I was not even the oldest one there!) some were international travelers, others were US visitors to DC, I didn't actually meet or talk to any students. I was only able to stay one night because my driver's license still has my DC address, and they don't allow DMV residents to stay for more than a night at a time (I moved less than a month ago). For the price, this is a great find and will definitely be on my list of places to stay when I have to be in DC for work On my first night checking in, there was an older gentleman on the stoop outside telling everyone trying to get in that this was the worst hostel experience he'd ever had, and I wondered what I was getting myself into. Turns out that guy was the equivalent of a live 1-star Yelp review that Yelp would put in the "not recommended" bin.

Apparently, someone from the staff made a mistake while extending my stay. I followed the instructions given to me by this person and on the second day when I was ready to move to the room assigned told by the latter, I calmly approached the manager to confirm. Manager became unnecessarily defensive insisting that I had only paid for a cheaper room even though I had the receipt and the person who originally made the extension confirmed that my reservation was exactly as I described. Instead of apologizing, management reacted with hostility, cancelled my reservation without an explanation, and demanded that I leave the building immediately. This person even became more aggressive, rushing me out giving me little time to properly pack my belongings with dignity, humiliating me in front of other guests, and taking my things nearly outside without my permission even though I never resisted leaving. At one point he told me, "You will see today," while trying to provoke me into re-entering the building likely to escalate the situation even further. I chose to walk away because his behavior appeared completely out of control. If you value professionalism, respect, and personal safety, I strongly recommend avoiding this hostel. I would not recommend this place. UPDATE: Now I see the property responded to my review with false claims, including accusing me of "taking a leak" in the room and underestimating their hostile behavior, in what seems like a desperate attempt to distract readers from the serious and unacceptable incident I experienced there. This person seem to forget that the police were called for a reason. Nothing justified such behavior. Dear readers, this is how low and sketchy this place is. Instead of addressing the lack of professionalism, the owner chooses to attack my character publicly fabricating arguments. I dare this property to prove their claim. Again, I was NEVER given an explanation as to why my extension was suddenly revoked. It is clear the manager just appeared frustrated and angry after his misconduct and decided to retaliate by forcing me out in an intimidating and hostile manner likely to try to humiliate me. This appears to be a family-run business. Manager and owner seem related. Again, for your own dignity and safety, I strongly recommend staying away from this place.

We has great recommendations and added some things to our itinerary thanks to their suggestions. The room was perfect, small, but you don't need much space if you're getting out in DC. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location is perfect to walk places or jump on the metro to go anywhere you want. The rooftop bar has awesome views, but in the summer, the downstairs bar is where it is at. A/C! The restaurant has a small but mighty menu. Perfectly sized for options without being overwhelming. The cost and quantity were slightly off especially since there were lower cost for the same drink at nearby restaurants. Aside from that, I enjoyed my pineapple Jack'd pizza and the frose wasn't bad, just expensive. Would I return: probably for pizza and their spectacular views
