I have been going to Dr. Lee at DC Light Dental for almost 3 years, and everytime I leave I think "I have got to write a review because this place is as good as dentistry gets!" Of course, this is the first time I have actually followed through...
Facilities/Staff: The office is nice, clean, in a larger commercial building with easy metro access. It is not a luxury spa, but very functional and clean. There are TVs above every chair, which I have been told is kind of standard now, but still a plus. The staff is organized and thorough - they know your options, give you estimates for future work, and advise about whether it is better to use dental insurance, regular insurance, or both. Most importantly, they are phenomenal about scheduling and reminding you about appointments (they give you the option of email, text, call, or, like me, you can get all of the above because one reminder just isn't enough). Also - I have never waited more than 5 minutes, even when I am late (which leaves less time for TV watching in the chair...but life is full of trade-offs...). They don't try to squeeze in a million people a day.
Hygenists/Assistants: I have had two different hygenists - Jam, and a nother women whose name I can't recall. Jam is amazing. She is extremely pleasant, but also not afraid to tell me what to do better, show me how, and suggest changes. She is big on the electric toothbrush, and told me where to get a coupon for a discount on the Oral-B. She remembers my name, job, and personal details every time. The last time I had a cleaning, she even told me that those rubber picks would be better for me than actual floss...but said they were a little more expensive at stores but cheap at Costco. I came in two weeks later to have a filling re-filled, and she had bought me a bunch of packs of them at Costco because I said I didn't have a membership! I'm sure it helped that she is an animal lover and I work in widlife conservation, but still - that is above and beyond any other hygenist I have ever had. Also - they generally schedule with the same hygenist each time, so there is some continuity and they can scold you (or praise you) for doing or not doing what they recommend.
Dr. Lee: I get the feeling that his favorite part of the job is interacting with patients - he is very personable and easy going. As a dentist he is top-notch (at least to a layperson), . He is not too rough, when I have had to get shots he always gives me one, checks all around to make sure everything is numb, and if not, adds a little. When working, he stops to check how you are doing fairly often, and is free with the antectdotes, which always cracks me up because obviously I can't respond, but it makes for a pleasant undertaking considering there is a drill in your mouth. He explains what he is doing, what the options are, what might need immediate attention and what can wait, as well as what the different options may cost. It is certainly nice to know you are not going to be surprised by any bills. He has never tried to sell me on whiteneing treatments or custom diamond bling or a $300 mouthguard that seems the same as those in sports stores. Now, for the kicker - a few years ago, I had to have a crown replaced. He took the old one off, and placed a temporary one on while the new mold was ordered. That was a Thursday, and on Sunday, the temporary crown cracked, leaving me in pretty significant pain. I googled what to do, and the internet told me everything from go to an emergency room to get some super glue and apply liberally to the sucker. Instead of taking the internet's advice (which I would normally do), I called the office, and the recording gave me an after-hours number to call. I called that and left a message. 15 minutes later, Dr. Lee called me back - he was at his son's birthday picnic in a park. He couldn't come in that day, but he told me what to do, and then came into the office before all of his appointments on Monday and took care of me (without charge). Maybe I have had crap dentists in the past (and I have lived all over, probably more than 10 dentists), but I have never had a dentist willing to go that extra mile, and I was super impressed. That was probably the second time I promised myself I would write a review...and was a few years ago.
I saw a few negative reviews on here, and obviously everyone's experience is individual, but I have recommended Dr. Lee to a few co-workers (I am only about 5 blocks away) and they have all come back with positive experiences similar to mine, for what it is worth.
And thus concludes my novel on DC Light Dental. Hope it helps. read more
