Wow! The new DC Alexander Park is worthy of a major tourist destination like Ft. Lauderdale. The park was designed by Brooks and Scarpa architecture landscape urban design, the firm of Professor Jeff Huber of Florida Atlantic University's School of Architecture.
DC Alexander Park was designed to address coastal flooding and saltwater exposure by reintroducing native dune and maritime hammock ecosystems. Storm surges are mitigated by vegetated dunes and rubberized surfaces. A reintroduced coastal hammock absorbs rainfall and saltwater while shade is provided by native trees like Green Buttonwood, Gumbo Limbo, and Seagrape.
My favorite feature of the park is a 25-foot cantilevered overlook. \When you climb to the top you get a panoramic view of Ft. Lauderdale Beach and the new creative play area with slides, climbing ropes, and swings. Although this park is only 1.2 acres, the design makes clever use of the limited space. This new and modern park is a crown jewel of the Ft Lauderdale beach. read more
