This "school" is trash. I'm sorry - I really don't say this from a place of anger, I actually…read morewaited several weeks after my kid's split from TMA to make sure I could write something after reflecting a bit. Remember Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation - if he ran a martial arts studio it would be Troy Martial Arts. Let me explain. Problem 1: Owners are unorganized and greedy. Bad combo. Rules and rates constantly change, the offer "specials" like letting kids have relaxed uniform rules if they wear a TMA shirt - expect the color of the shirt changes every month, so they must always buy more. They inflate their own reviews by giving kids raffle tickets if their parents leave 5 star ratings (hello ethics). They also pressure parents into buying extra gear (from THEM of course, can't buy on Amazon for less) as well as pressuring parents into having their kids take extra classes in fields their kid has no interest in (weapons, grappling etc) Problem 2: Owners have INSANE double standards for students. Some kids are treated like kids, some are treated like adults. Some have to test by fighting people 15 years their senior while some test against their little brothers. No problem with pushing kids - but having different standards for different kids and then tying that to a rewards system (belts) is nothing but discriminatory. Problem 3: Not professional. What style do they even teach? My kid started 3 years ago to learn Taekwondo.....when we left last month it was largely because all they wanted to teach was grappling. Sorry, my 13 year old GIRL did not want to constantly wrestle with men in their 20s and 30s. GROSS. Yeah keep your filthy hands of my daughter. Not to mention, I believe the owner has like a white belt in his grappling "art". Not exactly qualified to teach something so dangerous. When we signed up at this school there was no mention of learning to wrestle. The final straw for us was that the owners here constantly tried to guilt my kid into giving up her other extra curricular activities. Yes, they wanted a 13 year old to devote her life to their rinky dink, trailer park looking school. Sorry folks - we have bigger dreams for her than to be Cousin Eddies wrestling partner.
