Well the Airboat rides were shutdown, and a lot of the things inside shop and the concessions that were open were a little pricey. What place isn't right? While I agree with another reviewer that the building does stand out, such is the nature of modern development. inside, the structure gently flows with many displays and items donated to the museum or on loan from various sources. Sports icons who have touched Louisiana sports and beyond are given their just acknowledgements. There are even sports you would not really think of first, including race car driving and hunting, that are given space. Downstairs, there is an exhibit hall for special pieces. When I visited, it was local artists. That area, I hope, will be expanded soon. Upstairs, nestled in its own corner, you will find a wonderful display paying homage to those who settled the area and those who were added by travel or trade. There are artifacts on display and electronic displays to share how the area was formed. Admission was less than $10, and you are helping preserve a special part of history. Staff was super friendly and helpful, available should a question arise, and made sure you were able to enjoy your visit. I was there around an hour or so and was able to take in just about all I wanted to see that morning. I really enjoyed the day, and I hope you would make it a point to stop in and learn more about Louisiana!

This wasn't really planned, but after our boat tour, we decided to check it out since it was recommended during the boat tour. I'm always pretty interested to check out Historic sites. We decided to ride our scooters over and they were nice enough to let us store them inside, since they folded up. There were both indoor and outdoor exhibits. We decided to walk outside first and since it was 4th Of July, it was pretty bare. The outdoors was nice and woodsy. It was a hot day, so we went back inside pretty quick. On the inside exhibit, there was more to read and learn about, so we took the time to do that. Restrooms were available inside as well. The staff that was there answered questions and gave us a bunch more information about the area and festivities that we did not already know about. If you get a chance please visit them, when you are in Natchitoches. A lot of history!

The staff are friendly and helpful. No one was really around to explain anything in the fort, however. I had to rely on an interpretative booklet they loan out inside the museum but it doesn't always answer all questions. This is the only reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5. But otherwise, pretty fantastic! This easily should be a first stop when visiting Natchitoches. It gives a bit of foundation and explanation for visiting the rest of the city.
