Like most Days Inns, this was probably built as a different brand property. It's just off I-80 in historic Grinnell, location of one of the most impressive of Louis Sullivan's "Jewel Box" banks.
My room is large, well furnished and appears to have recently undergone a major refresh with paint, new furniture and flooring in the bath and in the room. It includes a refrigerator and an iron. There is a hi def flat screen television. The bath has a new tub and surround, and a new tile floor but the same old fixtures. The shower handle requires some thought to use. The shower head was popular back in the Carter years, but it's serviceable.
A few little annoyances besides the shower: I thought the rate was a little high but tolerable, the bath is separate from the vanity and there is no towel rack on the vanity. My only real complaint is a dizzying striped carpeting in my room.
The staff is very friendly and accomodating, and made me feel welcome.
By the way, don't expect gourmet coffee, the coffee is lousy but then, most hotel coffee is. I just didn't care for their brand at all. read more
