A popular (and largest) drugstore chain in the United Kingdom (tracing its history all the way back…read moreto 1849), Boots is wholly owned by Walgreens Boots Alliance (2014). This location of Boots was located close to the West Quay shopping center. It was a good place to pick up some toiletries (in our case, Nivea skin cleanser that my wife told me was a reasonable price), and would have been a good place to pick up any over the counter medication if we needed it. It was one of the few places open early on a weekday (8 am) and was our first stop to do some window shopping, getting a feel for how much common items cost now in the UK. There was a small food section, stocked with bottled drinks and premade sandwiches and wraps as well. It was a self checkout and we had no issues using our US bank issued card.

This is a very large boots store, which also has a late night pharmacy at the back of the store…read more The odd thing about this store is that it doesn't really appear to selll much more than the main Boots shop located at Above Bar in the centre of Southampton. The aisles have been made so wide that the large space hasn't really been used so it's a normal Boots spread out a bit. It does mean that it never seems busy and you're not constantly dodging people but if you go here expecting to find a much larger range, you'll probably be disappointed. The shop itself is bright and clean, as you would expect for a Boots, and the staff are happy to point you in the right direction if you can't find what you're looking for (which happens all too often because the signs above the aisles only give a vague idea of what might be there).

They also sell a small selection of cards and oddly, they have a glass case of watches, etc, next to the counter. The staff are always polite and helpful. I recently dropped a pound coin under one the display units and one lady kindly helped me get it out. It's a shame the same can't be said for the pharmacy at the back of the shop. I have always found the counter staff and pharmacy assistants to be uninterested, unhelpful and at worst, rude. When I have asked a question they've rarely known the answer and when I've requested they check with the pharmacist it's been made quite clear that I'm expecting far too much from them. The pharmacists themselves have always been pleasant but the reaction from counter staff and the 40 minute wait for a prescription means that I no longer use this pharmacy.

I popped into Lloyds a couple of weeks ago to pick up some medicine and some advice for my mother…read more They were quite busy as usual and the waiting time for a prescription was nearly an hour. I asked the young lad behind the counter for some advice and explained what I had been asked to asked. He said he couldn't asnwer and would get a Pharmacist. To his credit he came straight out, listened to my query, asked a good couple of questions and gave some really spot on advice. The Pharmacy team themselves seem to be very good from this transaction but the queue time and length of time to wait for a prescription was a bit off. If they really are this busy then how about taking on some more staff, I only saw two including the Pharmacist behind the counter and the next Pharmacy I went to to get the prescription (wasn't going to wait for nearly an hour), was half the size and had double the staff. I waited 15 minutes there.
