This has to be the most unprofessional place of business I have ever seen! I took my lawn mower in to get a new pull cord and the height adjustment mechanism replaced. I was promised the job would be done in about two weeks at the most. After 13 days and receiving no status updates for my mower for I called for an update. The owner's son answered the phone and abruptly said he would get to it that I didn't need to call. After another week I drove to the repair shop and discovered that my mower (along with several others) was covered in dirt. The mowers were kept outside and exposed to the rain and dust. It looks like they were kept there for a long time because the dirt was caked on. I went into the shop and asked the owner's son about the condition of the mower and was told to take it back and get the "f*&$! out of his shop. I told him I brought it there to be fixed and would like him to fix the mower because the place in downtown Wichita Falls (although much more courteous) was not that great. He agreed to have it done the following week. A week passed and it still was not done. Luckily, I was busy with work and just didn't have time to check on it. After two weeks passed, yet again, I inquired. They told me it would be done the next day and to stop bothering them. I went to the shop the next day and was told the mower was ready. When I went to pay for the mower I noticed the bill was twice the amount I was quoted. I asked the receptionist why it was so much and she asked the owner's son. The owner's son said he replaced the pull cord, and fixed the height adjustment mechanism and also and changed the oil, replaced the air filter, and replaced the spark plug. I told him I did NOT ask for the oil change, spark plug or air filter service (I had just done those things a week prior to taking it there). The owner's son angrily said it needed done and showed me the rain soaked air filter, (further proof my mower was left out in the rain). I told him that I had replaced the filter before I brought it; furthermore I changed the oil and spark plug. He ran inside like a four year old child and waited for me at the register. At the register I told him I wasn't going to pay for services I did not ask for. I asked to speak with the owner and he said he was the owner. He took the charge off my bill and I paid. After I paid he told me to get the F%&! out of his store. That was twice, and now I was angry. I asked him to repeat what he said and he went behind the service counter and picked up a shotgun! I told the receptionist to call the police and she just stood there with her mouth open! I turned around and walked out of the shop and loaded my mower. The owner's son came to the door and yelled for me to never come back to his shop. To avoid further conflict, I left. It's a shame the art good customer service is quickly fading away. We often hear so much about good ole southern hospitality but at Davis small engine repair, it's just not true. The service I received was totally unacceptable and no one should have to deal with that. I hope my lack of Wranglers, cowboy boots, and a Southern accent had nothing to do with it but it seems like with that small Texas town business if you ain't from there, you ain't gettin' the hospitality Texas is widely known for. I would highly recommend getting a manual and learning to fix your own small engine repairs. read more

Not sure what James' experience was really like, as you need to hear both sides of the story, but when I called Davis Small Engine Repair for lawn mower repairs the other day, the person on the phone politely told me there would be about a two week turnaround due to their work load. What I was not expecting was for them to recommend another repair shop I could go to if I could not wait. That was an unselfish and honest answer that I appreciate. On 7/22/16 Davis Small Engine Repair picked up our Cuba Cadet riding mower to replace the spindle. They told my husband they would not be able to get to it right away as they had 13 repairs ahead of ours. Thinking, OK, it might take a couple of weeks. We could live with that. On 8/11 we contacted them again since we had been, I think, very patient. They knew from the moment they got it that it needed a spindle assembly. We were told on the 11th that they were going to have to order the part...the part they had known it needed since 7/22. They thought they would have it back together by 8/22, one month after they picked it up. We called them on the 22nd. Charles said they were almost finished with it. We pressed them for a delivery date and were told it could be delivered soon, but there was a problem with the warranty company (Power Plus) which is also a piece of work. We told them we would pay for it. One month and one day later, we finally got it back. My son had to work on it again once we got it home because we would not allow them to replace a blade. Quite frankly, I was afraid it might take another month for them to do it. Instead of putting the old blade back on it, they made a notation on the receipt "cannot test unit with missing blade." This tells me they did not know at this point if the repair was even successful. Although the people I spoke to were probably not directly responsible for the ridiculous delays, their excuses sounded like the same dog and pony show they give everyone. Our experience with them was extremely subpar. I would not use them again if they were the only game in town. If your mower breaks down, find another repair shop or fix it yourself. read more

I have been using Chris and his father for several years, upwards of 6 years. They have always been very helpful and professional. They do the work needed on my equipment and have kept them all running very well. Even if they are swamped, they take the time to explain whats going on and recommendations. I have found that if something is marginal they will call and ask for approval. And in some cases they didn't charge me for work, this last service they didn't charge me for sharpening 3 blades on my mower, but did note it on the receipt. I forgot to ask.
