There is a genuine concern for the customer. The selection of quality products has improved tremendously over the years.

It feels like a small town market, and it is, but is also has the trappings of a larger supermarket.

BEWARE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!…read more My daughter is hiking on the Appalachian Trail and came in looking for batteries for her headlamp. They were out of new batteries, so they sold her three AAA cells that they took out of a TV control for $1.50 each (ripoff even for new batteries). They promised her they were new and unused. She knew this seemed sketchy, but felt like she had no choice. When she finally tried the batteries this afternoon THEY WERE DEAD! Maybe it's all fun and games when you can stick it to a hiker, but now she has no working light for tonight. Now it's a safety issue. I hope they burn in hell!!!

Water, sodas, Gatorade (2/$3). Pop-tarts, honey buns, Ramen, tuna, jerky and more. We even spied mini-BIC lighters at the register. The store also features a small deli offering cold sandwiches. Also, there are two ice cream freezers. The store provides two picnic tables out front for hikers to drop and refill packs. Several hikers were allowed to recharge cell phones after asking politely, us included. Northbound hikers have a choice of an easy blue blaze direct to the bridge or a slightly longer road walk (.2 mi) from the road crossing. After crossing through the covered bridge and gawking at the river and canal, head across the adjoing parking area and field to the store just across the highway.

It remains a small, independently owned store with a surprisingly full stock, lots of fresh meats, deli items, produce, a large beer cooler with all the local and foreign brands you night desire, and a very friendly and helpful staff. We're especially fond of the nice folks behind the deli counter. Our complaints are about the same: the prices hover on the high side. The prices are generally quite a bit higher than the nearby Stop and Shop, but honestly, the quality of their locally produced items is far higher. Still, if you're buying some basics like soup or milk, you'll pay more here, and some prices can be really way up there. Sometimes we're frustrated by that, other times we're grateful to find some delicious fresh fish or prepared salads. Bantam is not our first market of choice, but we're here regularly for some things we like and want.

But if you're looking for unique food items, this is your place. For me, I stop in often just to pick up some fried chicken from the deli, it's the best around -- juicy & meaty, but not greasy, and the coating is very tasty. $6.99 a pound. That fried chicken is 5 Stars every time. Friendly crew, but the checkout can be a bit of a process though, the place does a brisk business, and the parking lot is always full.

Customers were coming in to pick up their meat orders. The deli area offers a variety of cold and hot sandwiches, salads, sides. Great selection. I ordered a roast beef and Swiss on a hard roll, with coleslaw and horseradish sauce. It was fantastic! The meat was flavorful and plentiful and that homemade slaw added a great little kick. They also have baked breads and goodies. I left with a sourdough bread and a choc chip cookie. There are some tables outside to eat. They also sell unwashed, unrefrigerated chicken eggs from a local farm. So great! I did buy these, but somehow they didn't make it into my bag which I did not discover until I got home, but other than that, service was super friendly and helpful. So refreshing to have quality customer service. The store is well organized, nicely decorated, and extremely clean. I recommend a stop in and I will make a point to return as soon as possible.

They care about the town, community and the quality of meat they provide. The prices might be a little bit higher than what you would find at a local grocery store, but I promise you it's worth the money. They make everything in-house from bacon, breakfast sausage, steak tips, and they have the best pork chops around. When I have people over for dinner this is almost always where I will go to pick up what I need for dinner.
