Love this place. Very convenient and such, but what I really hate is their misinformation around service animals. As a service dog handler myself, I tend to bring my dog to this store. The sign outside their store entrance has multiple misinformation and incorrect statements. It's really frustrating for more misinformation to be spread around service animals, when there is already so much. 1. There is no service dog registration or certification 2. Service animals are legally not required to wear a vest or any identification equipment 3. In Connecticut, service dogs IN TRAINING have the SAME rights as FULLY trained service dogs; therefore they may enter the store 4. Service animals may be off-leash ONLY if the leash interferes with the dog's ability to perform a task for the individual with the disability I truly do love this store. This is really the only complaint to be honest, except maybe their prices! Although, I do have to compliment how cute the drawings are on the service animal sign lol. read more

I absolutely love this store! Located in a small town, this store is very convenient for getting anything you really need. The staff are incredibly nice and welcoming, and especially the deli worker. Forgot his name, but my elderly grandparents and I absolutely adore him. The cashiers are friendly, and just the whole vibe is welcoming. Everything is organised, clean, and the store smells nice. The food from the deli and the ready-to-go salads are just mesmerising. If you work in the town or are nearby, definitely grab some lunch at this place. It will not disappoint. This is an adorable store! It feels like a small town market, and it is, but is also has the trappings of a larger supermarket. It has good lighting, is very clean, and the products are well faced. They note at the beginning of the store they work with the local food bank, and even highlight items the food bank would appreciate. There's a donation box at the exit. I never thought I'd be buying canned chicken, but if it helps feed people, it was so easy to grab a few cans for donation. The cashier very kindly provided direction on where to find the box, because it is on the floor. Prices are decent and comparable to a larger store that would be an obnoxious drive away. The IGA is a much better experience! read more

Management stinks. Constant change of workers, and quite expensive to boot. I once actually found a staple in my quiche and I told someone I knew who worked there, which she promptly blocked me on Facebook after insulting and calling me names. They have all the basics, plus a surprisingly good selection of more interesting foods. I almost always find everything I'm looking for. The store brands that I've tried are very good quality. The pre-made deli selection varies daily and I can usually find something I like (although I wish they'd bring back their homemade pot pies and the amazing coconut soup.) Throughout this Covid era, they have consistently replenished their stock of things like paper towels and cleaners, filling in with other brands rather than having bare shelves. And speaking of Covid, they have wipes right next to the grocery baskets, aisle directions and social distancing. The produce department is unfortunately small, but again, they usually have what I want and the quality is consistently good. (Unlike a certain larger store in nearby Sharon, where the produce section is huge and much of it turns out to be bad when I get it home.) The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I think it's also nice how they will mark an item as needed by the Foodbank in case you want to pick up an extra and put it in a box near the door. I usually just see one sign per visit, so it's a little bit of easy charity. The prices are a bit higher than some stores, but for the selection, quality and service, I think they are fair. Don't think in all the towns and countries I've lived in, there has ever been a store like our IGA here in Kent! Gary and the rest of the employees go out of their way to accommodate every request you may come up with from unusual meats, yoghurts, & vegetables etc.,, they'll bend over backwards to try to get whatever it is you're looking for. They're honest, straight forward and really care about the service they offer - they're sort of like a family! There's never been a problem in returning anything that wasn't quite "up to scratch" - (once with some fish, the other with avocadoes) and this is in nearly 20 years of shopping there. I read the reviews here on Yelp and I'm quite surprised . First of all the IGA is family owned and the location is convenient . So to the comment about the IGA being pricey is irrelevant . If I was to go to Big-Y I'm paying for the extra 20 mins of my time plus gas . The employees of IGA, Kent CT treat the customers #1 ! I've never had a problem in the 5 years I've shopped there . They open registers if there's a long line . They actually go get the item your looking for instead of telling you where it's located . I love me a mom and pop food store or any business that is . I'm always treated well at the IGA . The people , the management , employees and owners are hard working and follow the old saying "customers are always right." One issue I have ....... it's so freaking cold so when you go bring a jacket . The IGA is my number one stop in Kent ,CT it saves me the ride out to New Milford or Torrington . Cosmopolitan selection with a hometown feel! For such a small town, we're grateful for such a wide variety of gourmet foods, local cuisine, and staple products. The prices are comparable, in some cases even lower than the big chains so I'm happy to save on the time and effort to drive farther to shop.
