AVOID AT ALL COST! Unpopular opinion I know but this is my…read morehonest opinion and my personal experience . Yesterday I rang them on behalf of the whanau. Yes we were not the authorized person, but we wanted to explore options with the funeral service, the guy informed me that he could not talk about anything concerning the funeral because I was not the authority. I said I understand that and ask a general question which was if any whanau had a 6 day tangi would it be possible for whanau change things 4 days away from burriel or is it fixed in ? All we wanted to do was get option and try do our part we weren't there to change anything but to be proactive instead of just leaving it all upto the authorized person we just wanted to help. We also wanted the bank account number to pay majority of the bill he didnt give me time to ask that instead. He said I was yelling and hung up on me. Then rang the authorized person and told them I wanted to change the burriel date. For a funeral service to do that is so rude and ignorant the guy that was talking had the attitude of " I know all and I am all powerful " is this how they deal with whanau in mourning. I had left a review yesterday but some how it was deleted within 5 min. I don't normally do reviews but this is so bad . They haven't contacted me to sort it out. They so called privacy protocols are tight but had no problem giving my number out without my permission. So they know my number to make contact .if this review disappears I'll start on social media until you sort this out and apologize for your poor customer service. I have not made this review out of spite but more of a wake up call for this so called business of compassion to sort out there customer service and handling customers who are dealing with great loss. That phone call has left us shaken humiliated. And made 2 whanau argue. Hope yous are happy

I kind of want to give this place more than three stars, but...it is going to have to stay at that…read morefor now. Symonds Street cemetery is kind of creepy, and not because it is filled with dead people, more the live variety milling around the outskirts. It is the type of place that you want to explore at a leisurely pace looking around at all the details, but the crowds of dodgy looking men may make you feel a bit hesitant. The bronze statue at the front is a really lovely piece of modern public art (a rarity!); and the natural beauty of the shady big old trees is welcoming on a warm day. This is definitely one of the more unique public reserves you find around Auckland, especially so close to the CBD. For those whom might be interested in the history, most of these gravestones were created between 1842 to 1886.

The Symonds St Cemetery is a bit like Communism - great idea, ruined by people. This place is…read morebeautiful in the way that any old architecture or engraving next to trees is beautiful, and the fact that it's a cemetery gives it a gravitas (not a pun) that other ornate parks might lack. You know what ruins that? Being asked by twitching homeless women if they have paint on their face, which they do, because they've spent the last fifteen minutes huffing from a bag as they circle you. What else ruins it? The threat of muggings, the discarded beer cans, the racist vandalism. Actually maybe it's more like Whangamata over summer - you can see why all these people congregate there, but the fact that they do makes it less appealing for anyone else to congregate there. As others have said, best enjoyed during the day, and with the occasional glance over your shoulder.
