We chose the Jewel Box in Forest Park on a beautiful Fall day in October to shoot our family portrait. Joel was great with the kids and my 18 month old boy barely stays in one place but I knew Joel captured some great shots. We did multiple family shots, the kids together, individual, mom and daughter, dad and son. My 4 year old daughter felt like she was a model... Joel just kept shooting and she loved every minute of it. When we got our high resolution DVD a week later I could not be happier. Apparently he sold over 1000 Groupons and he personally does each one. If there is another similar special I am on top of it for next year. Thanks Joel!

We got 1 hour in the package, but he was 15 minutes late, so our very rushed session was actually only about 40 minutes (he had clients in the next hour slot that he didn't want to be late for- ouch). Tower Grove Park was our chosen location since it has meaning to our family. Rather than go in and around the park he shot next to a building and a fence. Our pictures look like they were taken in a parking lot, not the park. He would only shoot in shade which did help the pictures, but it would have been nice to be told this before hand so I could find a better location. We got 5 nice pictures out of it, but it was incredibly disappointing.

He met with us before to make sure he got all the photos we wanted and was awesome to work with the day of the ceremony. Super personable and willing to do anything we asked. Dayton is literally in the background of a photo,…read moretaken by one of my guests, with his camera ON HIS HIP as my bridesmaids are making their way down the aisle. An hour in to my event start time Dayton was standing around socializing with my wedding guests. When I noticed and asked what he was doing, he acted confused. I informed him that he should already be taking photos since he was paid for the full 6 hour event. He began taking them, but asked me periodically throughout MY WEDDING DAY what kind of photos I wanted him to take/what other ideas I had. I feel any professional photographer should be able to answer this on their own. After dinner, which he was invited to join us for, he was again sort of loitering with some guests until my husband went and tipped him (for no reason other than the fact that it is just proper etiquette.) I guess receiving a tip, prompted some new found enthusiasm in him as he then started taking pictures again and asking me for ideas on what kind of pictures I wanted. This finally all culminated with just a bunch of portrait taking, outside, as we were losing the sunlight.... Actually getting the photos was another ordeal in itself. He mailed them out in a paper mailer the first time, which showed up empty with a split in the side. I can't help feeling a little awkward that some stranger probably has a copy of my wedding photos. I contacted him and he said he would mail them out that day. After not receiving them for two weeks, I reached out to touch base and received no response from Dayton for 5 days. When I finally heard from him he claimed that he had not been able to get back to me because he had been on an extended shoot, but had mailed the photos out two days prior. So I guess he could make it to the post office, but not answer his phone? When I finally received the photos, there were only 243, not the 300-400 I was promised. Editing was incredible poor. Many were either too dark or overexposed. Angles were strange and many not centered properly. There were some things that should have been cropped out if not avoided entirely (ie- and ugly broken utility box on the wall he took some of my husband's portraits against.) There we're also some photos that I remembered him taking that were left out entirely. A photo of myself on the staircase which was probably my favorite of myself that day, as well as a photo of my cousin and I and one of me and a close friend. I reached out to him to see about getting those photos and again, received no response for 4 days. When he did respond (December 21), he said that he was spending time with family and didn't have good phone connection, but would mail out the rest of wedding photos the first week of January. It is now the first week of February and I haven't heard from Dayton or received any photos.

We've been using Emily for pictures of our son during his first year. I wanted 3,6,9, and 12 month…read morepictures, and she was able to let me create a package that worked for what we wanted. I had shopped around quite a bit and her prices were really fair for what we were asking. There are definitely other photographers out there with lower quality work that are charging a lot more. So far we have done 3 and 6 month pictures and they are great. During our first session my son was really fussy since he was teething and hadn't had much of a nap that day. I thought for sure we wouldn't get many good pictures because he was in such a bad mood, but Emily was able to catch him smiling, and we got a lot of really cute pictures! When it was time for our 6 month pictures we had scheduled a time to meet at our home for the shoot. Again my son was having a hard time getting a good nap in, I called Emily and asked if it was possible push back 30 minutes in the hopes that we could get at least a few minutes of sleep in so he wouldn't cry during our whole session. She was really flexible and told us to just call whenever he woke up. He was able to get a good solid nap in and we really appreciated the flexibility that day. And again the pictures were amazing. She has really been able to capture his personality and us as a family together. I would recommend Emily to anyone looking for a photographer in the StL area. She has done a great job capturing our son's first year so far, and I can't wait for our next 2 sessions. We wouldn't hesitate to book more sessions with her in the future!

She was FABULOUS, and we love our photos. Life threw us (and Erin) a curveball that we had to work around. Just six days prior to the wedding day, the bride tested positive for COVID! As two of our siblings have very young children and we did not want to endanger our older relatives either, we had to completely rethink how the photography would work in order to keep people safe but still allow us to celebrate family and remember the moment. Erin came through with several creative plans with only days of notice, using depth and spacing artfully to deliver really wonderful shots. Erin is very friendly and easy to work with. Our whole family loved her and she was able to make both our little nephews laugh and smile! I was super impressed by her easy interaction with my son, who is just two years old. She came prepared with smarties (which he loved), and she was easily able to pose him and my husband (both of whom usually run from my camera, which is not so fun). The images are beautiful - you can tell she knows what she's doing in terms of composing her images and lighting them. I knew the photography would be how I remembered, and my future children saw my wedding for years to come. When I found Jon Koch's work, I realized it was exactly what I wanted. I felt emotional looking at photos from a stranger's wedding day. Start to finish, I felt like I was there. He captured the entire feeling of the day. He worked with us on our engagement shoot, and a boudoir shoot for myself, and on our wedding day. He is incredibly professional but above that very kind and understanding and here is why, My husband and I had a very intimate ceremony, just the priest and 2 witnesses,so I relied solely on photos to share this experience with both of our families. Jon totally captured the moment, so much so that both families felt as if they had been present and that is exactly what I wanted since they could not attend. It was intimate, it was romantic and it was classic. Our pictures turned out so much better than I could have ever expected! So here is where the understanding part comes in to play, unfortunately it rained on our wedding day and we had planned to have the majority of our pictures that were not taken in the church, in different locations outside. Jon was nice enough to reschedule that half of the shoot (a little over an hour) at our convenience. Well, as you know this is St. Louis and the weather is often unpredictable so the following week it was bitter cold! A high of about 20 degrees but it wasn't raining so I was determined to get the photos done! Jon went out with us and even though he was freezing, he took the most beautiful photos and we don't even look cold!!!!!
