We really lucked out with David! We've dealt with a dozen brokers in various capacities over the years, and David is by far the best of them all. We almost can't wait for our next transaction so we can work with David, Carrie and the rest of the team again. We are picky buyers, and David didn't waste time on anything that wasn't the perfect fit. Once we found the right property, David and his team went into immediate action. Our offer went in that very day. David took us to the county courthouse personally to research the property, used his deep contacts to set up immediate inspections and get bids on work that needed to be done. He did a stellar job with negotiations. We went from offer to closing in 21 days. What else can we say? He is passionate about his work, and that is strongly reflected throughout the entire process. David was very knowledgeable, professional, and nice. He gives you useful information in simple language. He devoted a lot of time to me even though our moving plans were not even certain. We ended up not moving to Santa Cruz so we didn't buy a house, but our experience was so positive that we will contact him if things change in the future. read more

David helped us find our home on Santa Cruz's Westside. We were from out of town and he showed us on overview of the area from the UC Hill. We looked at many properties from Aptos to the Westside. His patience and understanding of the type of property we sought was never ending. He also helped us find adult long term renters for the first few years. He keeps in touch and can help with referrals to painters, handymen and the like. Always there for you. read more

David Morrell's office handled a house that I rented with some housemates, close to UCSC. The house was not in the best condition but the worst part about living there was the lack of help from David or his staff members. We alerted his assistant during the summer that the washer and dryer were not working--we were hoping for it to be fixed before we moved in for the Fall quarter. The assistant quit or was changed into another position and David was our only point of contact for any issues. It took me threatening to withhold rent before he finally responded to our inquiry. In total, it was about 2 MONTHS from our initial reach out before he did anything. After we threatened to withhold rent it took another 3 weeks before we had the new washer/dryer placed in. The worst part was the dryer didn't fit through the door so we had a washing machine for a few days while the old dryer and the new dryer both sat in our living room. Shortly after, our dishwasher and stove/oven broke down. It was expensive and annoying for me and my 2 housemates to have to go to another location to do our laundry despite the fact our house was supposed to have a working washer/dryer. In the 2 months we lacked a proper working washer/dryer I personally spent over 50 dollars at a laundromat. I was a broke college student who barely was able to afford her textbooks so yes, that 50 dollars + the time wasted was not fun. I moved out after Fall quarter. To the best of my knowledge, the oven still has yet to be fixed now that it's been well over 2 months. Thankfully, my housemates don't cook too much--college lifestyle--so it's not that bad but it's still pretty bad. Now, mind you, I've lived in terrible houses in Santa Cruz. Due to the student population, and just simply because Santa Cruz is gorgeous to live in, there's a lot of demand for rentals. I've lived in houses with mold, broken appliances, etc. but every single landlord has at least REPLIED to our emails. David complained that the tone of my emails were rude and that was the reason why he didn't reply. The first emails were not rude at all. It was only after being ignored for weeks that we threatened to withhold rent (where I admit, I did use language/tone that showed how annoyed we were with everything). Before that we were polite and their assistant always replied to our inquires. Realize this, we paid thousands of dollars to live in a disgusting house, with broken appliances, and David couldn't be bothered to reply to my emails and say "ok, we're on it, please give us two weeks." It should not take 2 months to replace a washer/dryer. We even offered to front the bill and buy new appliances if the landlord would be willing to pay us back afterwards because we were so over everything. (An idea my Father had) He completely ignored us. Regardless of how busy his office is, the fact that no one would bother with our concerns was really annoying. read more

David is one of those rare professionals that balances top-notch abilities with a humble personality. He always made us feel like his only client. We had a rare and very specific set of requirements for our dream home and he had those in mind every time he suggested a property. Once we found our dream home, he did a fantastic job of negotiating with the seller and walking us through the various concerns with city ordinances and the like. On one occasion he drove me down to the city to make sure all of my questions were answered. Yet another benefit that I would have never even thought about is his strong and loyal network of people in related industries in the area. From the home inspector to the escrow agent David brought in people of a very high caliber that pushed hard to make our dream a reality. read more

WARNING: Work with David Morrell at your own risk! Either he does not know the Santa Cruz market or he out and out lies. He convincingly told me my house would bring 1M but was only able to muster 887K. He was off by $150,000+! He promises the world but delivers nada. He did NOTHING to stage my home, just had me do 10K worth of repairs in order to lose my shirt! CAUTION! read more

I have worked with David as both a buyer 10 years ago and most recently as a seller. In both cases, David really went the extra mile. With my most recent sale, he did an excellent job staging the house beautifully, had absolutely gorgeous photos taken that really made the property a standout, and was extremely responsive whenever I had a question or a concern. He went above and beyond, hiring haulers and helping me clear out and donate furniture to empty the place for staging, and when close of escrow was approaching and I still had some stray furniture that needed to be disposed of during the peak of COVID-19, he magically had the furniture removed and donated so that I didn't have yet another thing to worry about! When he represented my mother and me as buyers years ago, he navigated a very complicated short sale process expertly and professionally and we got the place for an amazing price. David really works hard for his clients. read more

David Morrell was our realtor when my husband and I recently sold our home in Aptos, CA. Yelp allows a maximum of five stars for recommendations - if we could give David SIX stars, we would! From the beginning of our transaction to the end, David did an excellent job. He was fully knowledgeable about the real estate market; he was a great communicator - with us, with potential buyers, and with other agents; he was responsive to a fault; he was patient; and he knew all the right people to prepare our home for sale - inspectors, photographers, etc. One thing we especially appreciated about David was his knowledge of the real estate market. After careful analysis, David recommended a listing price for our house. My husband and I insisted on listing the house somewhat higher than David suggested. After a month on the market with no offers, we lowered the price to David's original price. Within one day, we had a full price, all cash offer. David knew the market value of our home, yet he respected us enough to let us try our price. In the end, David's knowledge of the market was spot on. The single most outstanding quality that David brings to the real estate process is the fact that he really and truly cares about his clients. Their satisfaction is paramount to him, and he works very hard to ensure their happiness. When you combine this personal and warmhearted concern with his professional expertise, you have an unusual, and unbeatable, combination. Without reservation, we highly recommend David Morrell as a real estate professional. read more

I would give David 0 stars if I could. He represented a buyer of the house I was renting and showed up with NO advance notice to me. This is against the law, unethical and unacceptable. Shame on David for being so disrespectful of our rights. read more

I was an out of town seller and did most of the transaction by phone, email, and fax. David answered my calls and emails with in minutes and is an excellent communicator. We had 2 other sellers in the transaction which he took many hours of patient time to call, meet and explain thing to. He is very well respected by other realtos in Santa Cruz and I can see why. David has helped us with both a house sale and a townhouse purchase in Santa Cruz in the last year or so. We couldn't have been any happier with his hard work, responsiveness, and ultimately success. We were out of the area for much of the time, putting an extra burden on him to look after the little details (coordinating cleaners, gardening, etc.). I've known him and his family for non-realty reasons for years, and they are true Santa Cruz people, highly knowledgeable about the area, involved in the schools and local nonprofits, and well-connected. A great local realtor. read more

I purchased a house in 2009 in Scotts Valley, and am happy with it 6 years after the fact. David Morrell was prompt and courteous in returning phone calls. He was available to me at almost all hours of the day or weekend. I felt he consistently exerted his best efforts to provide me with information, to represent my interests as a buyer, and to anticipate potential problems along the way. He helped recommend inspectors and contractors, and the people he found seemed to be friendly, reliable and accurate. David was thorough and complete; when he said he would do something, it would be completed promptly. I appreciated that he always took care to listen attentively and answer my questions fully, I did not feel rushed. I felt he had adequate experience to facilitate each step of the purchase. read more

David and his entire team do a fantastic job. His knowledge about the local Santa Cruz real estate market is second to none and he has a massive network of local realtors and other professionals which you'll need in either listing or buying a home. We chose to work with David after reviewing his positive reviews and transaction history online. In this area it's very important to work with real estate professionals who know the local area as each home and neighborhood has its own characteristics. We were in a situation where we wanted to sell our existing home and buy another home in the area at the same time. David guided us through the entire process, and ultimately helped us get in to our next home. There were multiple offers on the home we wanted to buy and David guided us through the negotiation process over the span of several days in order to make sure we got the right property for our family.
