I do not have enough good words to say about David. Before David was a full time photographer, he was hired by my dad to photograph my sister's rehearsal dinner. His photos were so great, and he was so easy to work with, that when I got engaged a few years later I decided to use him for everything (engagement, rehearsal, wedding). Since I'm an avid scrapbooker (yep, I said that), the photos were probably the most important part of the wedding. David and his assistant pulled off everything flawlessly, from covering the specific shots I requested (NUMEROUS, I'm sure he'd tell you!) to capturing the candid moments that embody the spirit of our weekend. We did our engagement session w/ David Loi about 2 weeks ago. First of all, I just want to say that David is very punctual and professional. When I contacted him about his prices and what usually goes into planning a shoot, he was very responsive and offered an appointment to discuss things very quickly. It was very important for him to get to know us and to understand "our story" so that he could help us share it in the best way with his art. I love that concept instead of just setting a date/time to take pictures! Anyway, I was SO nervous days before the photo shoot, because I had never done one before. But it came so naturally with David - my fiancé and I had a blast! It really floored us that David was just SO excited when he had a good shot of us. It really gave us a lot of energy. And OMG, there were SO MANY good pictures! My fiancé and I whole-heartedly love all of our photos so much. The pictures really conveyed our adventurous, wacky, travel-prone selves! And our love and admiration for each other really came through on these pictures. Since it was a destination engagement shoot, there was some apprehension on where the best places were to take pics, but David had done some research and suggested a great area to go to. AMAZING!!! David was such a delight to work with for our photoshoot. I found him through social media and word of mouth and he was professional, timely, and so just oh so nice. My husband and I had our maternity session with David and it was such a breeze. He was funny and chill, which made our photo taking experience very easy and natural. David Loi's photographs are truly works of art. As an ex-fine art student with a concentration in photography, finding my wedding photographer was no easy task. Most of my colleagues reside on the east coast, so finding a photographer closer to home took me weeks of research. I guess I'm a little finicky. David's use of light and eye for composition is indicative of true talent, of which cannot be taught or sold. Personally, I'm well aware how difficult it can be to make your subjects feel at ease considering the situation at hand. First of all we just want to say, if you want a photographer, David is the one we will recommend every time, every where, and for every occasion. We reached out to him about 3 months before the wedding which in the wedding industry is considered pretty last minute but David was very responsive. We had a meeting within a few days and was able to decide a date for our pre wedding photoshoot. We had our pictures taken in late August and it was still very hot during the day but David was very patient. He was also very professional, punctual, friendly, down to earth and personable. When your husband says "he captured a fairy tale", while looking through your wedding pictures, it speaks novels. I found David through some random chance, on FB and looked through his website; I was intrigued. I sent him a short email asking some basic questions, and instead of sending a pdf of costs and packages (like everyone else did), he asked if we could chat over the phone. I was immediately drawn to his personality and passion. Not to mention he let's you speak, and when you're done, he adds to the conversation - it's never about him. His work online showed us color, and catching those all-time amazing shots that we all want - the in-the-moment ones that tell stories only books and your imagination can dream up. Our journey with David began over a few beers, casually getting to know each other, asking questions, telling stories, looking at books of his work to make sure what he provides is really what we were looking for, and he didn't do the sales pitch of "well, I have this sweet little book right here, but this big one, yeah, you want this, just trust me". You see, he doesn't just say "ok, I'll work with you, and I'll take your money". No, he wants to make sure your personalities work well together, and that you're on the same page, and that what YOU want is what he delivers. If you want simple portraits with no emotion, no energy, no life in them, he is not the photographer for you. We were immediately drawn to his character, personality, and what we hoped was his work ethic. We were right. From finding a place for the engagement pictures (which ended up being the same vineyard where we were getting married, which was not a short drive, and he ended up tearing his pants to get to the perfect position to capture the light "just so", after which he simply had a good laugh), to sharing personal updates about life in general (we had made a new friend in him), to getting ready for the wedding, and EVERYTHING in between (save-the-date pics/ questions about the contract/ timeline for the wedding itself/ etc), we couldn't possibly recommend him more.
