Oversubscribed since Virgin active closed and members migrated. Post work gym rush means that during the period of 6 to 9 you are going to have to wait rediculously long times to get access to weights and popular machines. New members are being shown around for an over saturated facility and the solution will be simply to extend operating hours. Members are always talking and complaining without answers about the topic of extension of operating times to 10 or 11. Gym shut to early for the amount of people subscribed trying to all work out in a short time window. This needs to be addressed as it isn't being taken seriously by mamangement and is annoying that they have not reviewed this as a business case and have left this like this for soo long. I would understand if it wasn't busy but it's getting rediculous. Stop taking on new members or extend the hours!!!!!!! read more

I've been a member at David Lloyd leisure in Brighton for 6 months. Before I joined I checked the reviews and there were so bad ones but thought it would be OK. It's been a terrible experience and one I wouldn't recommend to anyone looking for a premium gym Pool regularly closed, hand towels only with a platinum membership, showers regularly cold, a leaky roof and broken water fountains are just a few examples of how poor the gym is. For £89 is a rip off. I rated 2 stars as the staff on reception are all very friendly. read more

Pros: + Large pool with lanes, + Very large lounge area with cafe (food and drink) and tons of seats. They have events (for kids too) such as bread making, + Changing rooms are decent, + Complementary classes with membership. Cons: - Need to pay £1 for towels, - Free weight area could be better equipped. There are 3 flat bench racks, 1 declined, 2 inclined, and 5 free benches but only 1 squat rack. There is no weightlifting platform. All in all a decent gym. However, I prefer the David Lloyd in Fulham, London. read more

Been a member here for 10 years and in those 10 years it has rapidly gone down hill and has now hit an all time low. Since the refurbishment the spa area has rarely worked, be it the steam room being broken, the sauna or the jacuzzi. Sometimes all at once. They take days and sometimes even weeks to repair things, you arrive never knowing what and what isn't going to be working. The mens changing rooms the past six months or so have been disgusting, they have had a drain problem and in return they have had a fly infestation in the shower and toilet areas. The ceiling in the mens showers are covered in black mould and the lampshades in the changing room are covered in months worth of dust. They recently created a workstation in what was once the 'members club room' reducing the club room area by 75%! Standard members are not allowed to use the workstation, only Platinum members are which has created an us and them feeling amongst the standard paying members. The vanity project cost well over a million pounds which clearly came out of membership money only to create an elite space for higher paying member's. Further more they hiked up their prices in January by as much as £10.75 a month for most single paying member's. The place is extremely badly managed, they can't even get on top of the basics. Almost everyone would leave this gym if another one nearby was offering the same facilities. I am seriously thinking of saving my money and leaving and joining 'The Gym'. I know it doesn't have Pool and spa facilities but to be honest with you, considering the amount of times these facilities are actually working it would make absolutely no difference to me! After being a long term member and suddenly falling short on cash, I decided to reluctantly cancel my subscription to David Lloyd. I found that my contract was to run for another 4 months and upon requesting to end it early, was told I would need to provide evidence that my financial situation had changed. I'm not sure what kind of evidence was expected, so I bit the bullet and continued to pay, despite the fact I wasn't even attending the gym. I cancelled my direct debit to them one payment before it had finished, having already paid £220 in membership fees the past three months, despite not attending the gym a single time. 4 weeks later they've bumped the £72 payment up to £150 and are threatening to take me to court if it's not paid in the next two weeks, which it most certainly won't be!! I know legally they are in the right, but morally this is absolutely disgusting; totally unethical! I understand now signing up for a year was a mistake, as I couldn't have seen how I would cope financially over this period of time (not well, as it turns out!). But would have sincerely expected a more understanding and sympathetic response from the multi billion pound company, who clearly couldn't care less about its members once they stop paying the extortionate monthly fees! In the midst of a post-summer health kick, I enquired online into the prices of various Brighton gyms. David Lloyd wont quote online, instead they take your contact details and get back to you. About a week later some horribly over keen commission seeking representative rang me to persuade me to take up membership. I patiently listened to the prices (no deals for me, like you get if you have a friend there/work for a big company) - almost £100 a month, good grief! I'll give it a miss methinks. read more

The pool is a real bonus, it's usually pretty quiet in the evening, and you can sometimes get a lane to yourself.They could do with another Jacuzzi as it always seems to be busy. There is also a steam room and sauna. The classes are good, although some instructors are better than others. The gym is spacious and I've never had to wait to use anything. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the changing rooms and showers are always very clean. The pool and general atmosphere makes it worth the monthly fee. read more

It says a lot about our culture that simply maintaining one's health now comes at such great expense. On the plus side David Lloyd offers everything you could want from a gym. There's an indoor pool, sauna, spa, steam room, gymnasium, crèche, hair and beauty salon, sun beds, sports shop, bar, restaurant, personal trainers and free Wi-Fi. However, this all comes at considerable cost. Unless you're a professional athlete or involved in any form of intensive training I can't see how you can justify spending more than £50 per month on gym membership. I spend just £23 per month at Coral Fitness and I'm perfectly satisfied. These days it seems that beauty is no deeper than your pockets. read more

I have been a member for 3 years. The first 2 were fine as I used the gym and attended the excellent HIIT classes. The staff are lovely. But the time came when I was bored with all this and decided to attend classes, Pilates and Yoga. But the classes were fully booked. Even using the app, 8pm 9 days in advance I could not get a booking. They do advertise free classes with the membership! I tried for 3 months and then gave in my notice ending my membership, in writing, at the counter. My mistake was not to get a receipt. This meant applying again and it will take 6 months to end. On the plus side, now it is summer I have managed to get into 1 and sometimes 2 classes a week but will leave and join the local yoga centre at half the price and join a gym with racquet sports. read more

They say that beauty is skin deep but at David Lloyd it rather depends on the depth of your pockets. While it may be one of the better-stocked gyms in town it is also one of the most expensive. That said the facilities are second to none. With an indoor pool, sauna, spa, steam room, gymnasium, crèche, hair and beauty salon, sun beds, sports shop, bar, restaurant, personal trainers and free Wi-Fi it certainly won't leave you wanting more. Perhaps having everything in one place is what makes David Lloyd worth it; perhaps it's the state of the art equipment. Whatever you think it can't be denied that it's a quality gym. However, you could also just do things like run along the beach or get some £35 free-weights from Argos. read more

Cavalier arrogant, up their own arses management staff, topped with a large collective of wannabe fitness staff. I was a member for around 6 months, I had signed up for 12 months. In the end I cancelled my membership and took the hit in paying the remainder fees. The sauna hardly ever worked added with filthy showers, The staff member who was apparently charged with cleaning the shower areas had a 'manyana' 'manyana' attitude. Most of the equipment is dated, unserviceable and and didn't work properly, borderline illegal for health and safety law. I suffered an injury due to equipment not working properly. The club in my opinion is a 'Gay Cruising' zone, which is cool if your male and into other men, but as a straight guy wanting simply to get fit, it became un-nerving when groups of ultra-ego gay men would hold meetings their in order to promote gay life style choices and bed side manners, of course added with the constant bugging, interruptions and sexual gay innuendoes of these guys who want every man to be like them. I lost count the amount of times I politely brought it to the attention of the staff about the cleaniness of the showers, the final straw being I found a used condom in a shower cubicle. Yucc!! The management are wannabe wastes of space who are simply their to enhance their 'I want to be' world views in life. David Lloyd in Brighton is S**T! The staff, especially the management are beyond belief arrogant and once the have you signed on the dotted line, they ignore you, I think they're are conceited, stuck up, and just plain rude for ignoring the members, maybe because they feel like royalty due the club being in a prime location. Now i am happy in a gym where i have the majority of the facillities, but for a fraction of the cost :-) David Lloyd Brighton = Over priced and outdated model. Look around. If you do want everything under one roof i.e pool with gym , i would recommend the Falmer club. Much more professional and better facillities. read more

There are lots of great facailities here but there is a miserable manager and staff. There seems to be a bad attitude that incentivises selling at the expense of customer service. The steam room is very often not working, the fire alarm goes regularly (meaning that you have to wait outside in the freezing cold), and the changing rooms had a refurb last year that left all the men using portacabins for a month with no apology.
