In my hometown of San Diego, I had seen 3 chiropractors, 2 massage therapists, and an acupuncturist who also did Chinese cupping. My pain had never gone away for more than 10 days, so upon my plane landing in Des Moines, I made an appointment with the clinic my mother and father have been going to for the last 3 decades or more, Rebarcak. I had no preference for which doctor I saw and I was given to Dr. Brady Rebarcak for treatment. I explained the treatment I had received in San Diego, CA. I was impressed with the results: within 2 hours after treatment, I was 95% better. Three days later I went back for a follow-up visit before my departure to San Diego. Today, 5 days later I am pain-free. If my mom were alive today, I could hear her say, "I told you they could fix you up." The doctor did a combination of Chiropractic, Chinese cupping, and Gua Sha on my neck. In San Diego, I had experienced all of the techniques from my San Diego doctors, but not one doctor had isolated the problem with the use of all the techniques in one treatment. (And just in case you need to do laundry, there is a laundromat in the same building as Back & Neck Care!) Dr Carmicheal (no, not a misspelling) is the only chiropractor I've been to, and probably will BE the only chiropractor I see. Why? 1) He knows what he's doing. I went in with a painful left shoulder, and over a period of several adjustments I was feeling waaay better! Yes, I am a continuing patient of his, and his initial work on my shoulder is the reason! 2) His office is a cozy place, with a small waiting area. If you're not a fan of going to any sort of doctor because of how imposing some doctor's offices can seem, Doc Carmicheal's office is just the opposite. Both Doc C and his office manager, Sandy, have this collective aura of true helpfulness, *and* one of the best sources of healing: humor! Add in a lovely fish tank for an extra bit of soothing calm, and new patients and continuing patients alike will find themselves feeling very much relaxed. Would that other doctors' offices had this level of coziness and true caring warmth! 3) For continuing patients, they host special patient appreciation days, most often for holidays. If you plan on moving to Marshalltown and want a chiropractor who truly acknowledges and appreciates their patients, Doc C's office is the place to be. Just a heads up for those who plan on paying a visit to Doc Carmicheal's office as a new patient: he also does sports physicals and drug screenings for new work hires. So it will be helpful to be on time for your appointment, because there might be other people ahead of you who are not necessarily there for chiropractic adjustments.

First let me say that I've had over 100 massages with over 30 different practitioners over the past 20 years (in California mostly, but in various other states as well) and request deep tissue work every time. I've only had 3 masseuses in Ames so far, but Cassandra was clearly outstanding (I gave my two other masseuses here 2/5 stars). Not only was she experienced and skilled, she actively applied her knowledge to great effect during the massage - paying attention, investigating, and reacting. Cassandra used superior hand/finger techniques and I don't remember her ever using her elbows (which is a shortcut most masseuses resort to, but which is avoided by the "top 2%" of masseuses). If you are in Ames definitely look her up! I saw her in August of 2015; she was working at Family Chiropractic and Wellness at 2629 University Blvd, although she had just moved there recently.
