Manager at the Newtown salon is arrogant and lacks customer service skills... I recently called to speak to the manager about COVID precautions being taken at the salon, just for my general knowledge, since there didn't appear to be any at my visit in July, other than chairs being 6 feet apart and plexiglass at the front desk. He informed me that they were following CDC guidelines. When I asked what those were he said the same as what every salon in the country is doing. I asked him if they were requiring all their workers to be vaccinated, and he told me they were not. So I then asked if they were requiring their unvaccinated employees to wear a mask while working and he said he could not tell me that. He said it was a HIPAA violation. I then informed him that my question had nothing to do with HIPAA and that HIPAA did not apply to them. He became very irate and rude and just kept repeating that they were following CDC guidelines. I explained to him that I only wanted to know so I know what precautions I need to take when I visit the salon since I am around a lot of children who are too young to be vaccinated. In a sharp tone he repeated he could not give me that information. I then told him he didn't need to his refusal to answer the question was the answer. He proceeded to raise his voice and tell me not to put words in his mouth and that it was a privilege to go there. I asked him did he seriously say it was a privilege to go to their salon. He then tried to correct himself by saying he meant that during this time, a pandemic, it is a privilege to go to any salon. Wow that says it all about this place. A privilege what a joke. For an industry that was impacted so gravely by the shutdown I would think you would work harder at ensuring customer safety. So my advice for you David Witchell. Please educate your manager. HIPAA does not apply to hair salons. If he is going to throw out buzz words like "we are following CDC guidelines" be prepared to tell customers what those actually are. Dont say your salon is doing what every salon in the country is doing...he doesn't know what every salon is doing. Also the CDC guidelines for months has been for unvaccinated people to wear a mask indoors in public places. If you were in fact following CDC guidelines why weren't the unvaccinated employees instructed to wear them. I have been with my stylist for years and have followed her to multiple salons and hate leaving her but I can not continue supporting an establishment where management has no respect for customers and has total disregard for their safety. read more

I am posting this because what happened to my friend at David J. Witchell was so shocking that people NEED to be warned. My friend booked a haircut for 12:45 PM. She confirmed the time. She wrote it down. She planned her entire day around it. She then drove AN ENTIRE HOUR to get there -- on her only day off. She walks in ON TIME, and instead of being greeted, she gets attitude, eye rolls, and blame thrown at her immediately. The staff insisted her appointment was at 10:45 AM and acted like she just made it up. Christina -- the stylist -- had already left, and instead of owning THEIR mistake, they cornered her and demanded a $170 "no-show" fee. For an appointment she showed up for. On. Time. Then they had the nerve to claim they "called her all morning," even though she never received a single call!!!! It was straight-up hostility and gaslighting from beginning to end. Let me be very clear: This salon punished a paying client for THEIR scheduling error and charged her $170 for services she never received. That is beyond unprofessional -- it's predatory. And the way David handled it was unbelievable. Zero accountability. Zero customer service. Zero respect. Just arrogance and refusal to take responsibility. read more

This is hands down my favorite spa to visit. I could seriously spend the whole day pampering myself! The spa downstairs is cozy and the staff is extremely attentive. I tell all my friends and family to check it out. Kelsey, Donna, and Callie are awesome if you are looking for a detailed facial with recommendations for skin care; Alex and Stephanie are true stress relievers with their massages (definitely opt for the 90 minute), the steam shower at the end is a bonus! Then, if you aren't too tired, head upstairs and get your haircut and styled with so many talented stylists. My personal favorite is Danielle, but I hear so many nice things about everyone else! Now, if you really want to continue the party, you have to see Kasey and the crew for eyebrow touch ups and a fresh splurge of makeup for an awesome girls night out or hot date!! After getting a horrible dye job the day before at another salon, I went to David Witchell on a whim based on reputation to correct my mistake that I made by taking a short cut! After calling and getting right in for an appointment with their senior stylist Lisa I couldn't have been happier. The front desk was extremely welcoming as well as all of their assistants. My expectation of fixing my hair wasn't as easy as I had assumed but Lisa although booked for the whole day put in the time to get it right! She spent 3 hours with me with the help of her assistants and made my hair even better than what I started with. Lisa was professional and I knew I was in good hands even though she let me know off that bat it wasn't a quick fix-- her knowledge and expertise was exceptional. I look forward to being her client and coming back to David Witchell for now on! read more

Jessica, Senior stylist is beyond the best stylist I have ever had! I have been going here for years. The staff at the salon are always helpful when making my appointments, or helping me find a last minute gift in the home store. I can always depend on the little unique boutique upstairs for elegant gowns for weddings or special occasions as well as the perfect accessories to make me look completely put together. I have been here twice, once to get my hair cut, the other for a couples massage. I'm reviewing for the massage! The spa was absolutely beautiful. Rustic, dark, relaxing. The women were very professional and sweet. I would absolutely recommend coming here for a massage, I will most likely be back. The prices were fair and both my boyfriend and I had an overall good experience. The only thing I was a little upset about: you can hear every single noise above you. You're in the basement and they have hardwood floors in the salon so anytime someone with heels strut across the room, you could heard every single clunk. I had a hard time relaxing during that, but like I said, everything else was superb. read more

I had a massage from John which I have to say was awful. I have seen him at the Nac's Salon also, so I'm not sure if he even works here anymore. First off, the amount of money they spent on this spa, you would think they would sound proof the rooms, the constant sound of high heels on the floors above is enough to make you crazy, it totally ruins the experience. Secondly, I don't want to talk during my massage!!!!! So shut up! I am here to relax not hear of your problems. My massage was so painful, after telling him 3 times the pressure was too much, he didn't get it. I went home nauseous and took a 4 hour nap after. I have frequented David J. Witchell salon for hair cuts and styling every few months for many years. After working with a few male and female stylists, I tend to like Brett the most. He is quiet but very attentive and is always available to discuss my likes and dislikes and explains how to use the hair products. He also knows how to cut curly hair! The upstairs boutique is beautiful; the sales staff usually let me browse on my own since they recognize me. However, they have followed me and made me feel uncomfortable also. I believe they are trained to qualify each customer and watch that items are not stolen. If you intend on purchasing you will be welcomed. read more

I have been going to Brooke for several years now. I have long brunette hair. She is the master of reinventing my hair without a drastic change that I don't want. I love to look polished and up to date but am not willing to change my length or venture away from being brunette. Brooke has a great sense of how to color brunette hair and make it look rich. I always leave very pleased and feel my hair looks different within the parameters I give her. The home decor and gift store across the street from the salon has items that I have never seen anywhere else and designer products that are incredibly hard to find. I was so happy when I found out they carry my perfume (which I usually have to drive an hour to get). I recently went for a Swedish Massage, after receiving a gift certificate for Christmas. The service was nice, my masseuse did a good job. The atmosphere was relaxing, although their waiting area isn't too comfortable. However, from the second I walked in I felt judged that I wasn't one of the "regulars". I initially went to get a blow out before a wedding. This salon was fantastic. I have since gotten 2 cut and colors and could not be happier. Its not inexpensive I will say that, but nothing good ever is. If attention to detail and a hip stylist is what you are looking for then they have you covered. read more
