There are also some installations in smaller rooms. Mixtures of ceramics and paintings mostly. The shop reminds me of a national trust shop, with good quality local craft gifts and cards-I bought quite a lot! The cafe is in the conservatory area, selling cream teas, cakes and wines. No large meals served here. You can sit on the benches outside which is nice on a sunny day. In the grounds there is a small theatre and short woodland walk. Worth popping in for an hour.

Aber's a small town, and the single-track railway and the windy roads can make it feel even more remote than the map suggests. But it never feels small-minded or "towny", largely due to the presence of the university. And the Arts Centre is a huge part of the university (though all the Arts Centre facilities are completely open to Joe Public). Here are five things which make it worth the trek up the hill: 1. The cinema. It generally shows more arty fare than you'll find at the Commodore, and in a more luxurious - if less charming - setting. They even have some impressive 3D facilities, which are regularly put to use for matinee performances of Pixar and the like. 2. The theatre. It hosts some surprisingly big names of music, stage and stand-up comedy. Though it's a small venue, so get tickets early. 3. The photography exhibits. To my untrained eye, these appear to vary wildly in quality. But definitely look out for the annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year collection. Amazing stuff. 4. A cute little arts/crafts shop. It's slightly over-priced, but it serves well for that emergency gift when you've forgotten your Mum's birthday. Again. 5. The coffee shop. This may be last on the list, but it's the real highlight for me. The coffee's great. The selection of cake is extremely impressive. The prices are pretty good. But the real kicker is the view - while you sip your espresso you can take in some of the finest vistas Aberystwyth has to offer. And if you time it for sunset, you're in for a real treat.

With hot meals, freshly made sandwiches and fresh cakes at really cheap prices it makes it a prime location for people to meet up. With a great view overlooking most of aberystwyth, and freindly staff, it makes a great place for grabbing lunch.

There is always a wonderful collection of paintings, porcelain sculptures, unique vases, pots, plates, wooden bird carvings, bronze statues and sculptures, all by exceptional artists. You would be advised to go around the gallery slowly, at least two or three times, as it is easy to miss out pieces of the art. There are often amazing outdoor sculptures too, made out of pieces of scrap metal, cleverly crafted into life size animals or insects, there are also stone sculptures that were made by the late John Cleal, one of our most prolific and much loved artists in Pembrokeshire and founder of Workshop Wales. His son Mitch now owns the gallery, he also exhibits some of his own fabulous works of art. We have the pleasure of owning one of Mitch's pieces, we admired it for quite some time, until we couldn't resist it any longer! You won't regret visiting Workshop Wales, once you go, you will be like us and return time and time again and every time, have a knot of anticipation as to what will be there.

I heard about Bear Steps Art Gallery as a result of seeing the advertisement for an exhibition of a…read morelocal artist who I'm connected with on Face Book. Fancying a trip somewhere new for my day off, I decided to go along and visit Shrewsbury, catching her exhibition at the same time. The gallery is tucked away in an idyllic little courtyard, near to a church, and next to Bear Steps Cafe. It's in an old building situated over two stories with 3 open plan rooms and the reception area. It's full of character and is very light with a great feeling of space. The exhibition I was going to see took up a little over two thirds of the space, with another equally interesting exhibition upstairs in the furthest room. From the looks of their website, they have local exhibitions on all the time, so with free entry, it's worth popping along if you in the area and seeing what's currently on show.

I bought many items in the Spectrum over the last 5 years…read more I liked it when a friendly lady Sue worked here. These days I seldom go. I think I bought what I wanted. I still like many of the paintings, the black crow (pottery) - and the big rings. My partner bought a ring here in December last year. It was a birthday present for his mother. When she put the ring on, the stone came off. She wanted to change the ring - or to have it repaired by the people in the Spectrum. The unfriendly woman working in the shop on that day said she should put super glue on the ring herself. Not very good service really. I am disappointed now - even though I still like many of the items there.
