I met David in line, waiting to see a movie about the magician and card sleight of hand genius, Ricky Jay. We got to talking, and I learned that David did a gig in Redwood City. Caught his show and was really impressed, so asked him to perform two shows for a group of researchers and physicians. David's performances were just wonderful. Edgy, full of humor and spontaneity. The best part was that the audience had a large number of neuroscientists and clinicians, and they were fooled possibly even more than the general audience. I cannot say enough good things about David. I first saw him a couple of years ago at a business event and was so impressed that we invited him to perform at our own company offsite last summer. Most recently, I had him come to a 20-person bridal shower that I hosted at my home. First of all - I have seen 3 shows and each one had different tricks and elements. Also - David is exceptionally funny and peppers in so many "group/context-specific jokes" that every show is different. He instantly forms connections with the individuals and the group as a whole, which makes the entire thing much more of an experience than simply a show. His ability to have people participate and share small things about themselves in a comfortable and non-embarrassing or intimidating way makes his show a fun and effective method of inspiring bonding among friends, colleagues and strangers alike. We had a few ladies at the shower who are incredibly shy and slightly apprehensive about "audience participation". David quickly helped them feel at ease and after the event, they raved about the experience. David was also generous with his time, lingering after the show, chatting with people and doing individual/small group tricks. Not only did this give me time to set out the food for my event, but it really made people feel as though they had experienced something extra-special and personal. We spent much of the rest of the event trying to figure out how he did the tricks he did :). My husband, father, brother-in-law and children were bummed to have missed the show, so I am definitely hoping for a family event or party where I can have him come again! If you are even remotely considering hiring David for an event, I HIGHLY recommend it. I hired David to come to my home to perform at a birthday party we hosted for a friend. He and I talked at length on the phone before he came and he did a great job explaining the different ways he could perform. We had @ 30-35 guests and because it was a house party and people would be mingling in small groups we decided that David would do close-up encounters with guests rather than have everyone sit down to watch his show. It was perfection! He blended well into the party and casually sat down with different groups and away he went. He is witty and fun and clever and handsome... all great attributes for a guest in your home and even better for hired entertainment! Our guests were blown away. I'm still thinking about the rubber band and coin tricks! He was so good at blending into the party that even the birthday girl was wondering if he was someone's date that she hadn't yet met.
