Kevin (Farley, the FAR in AXFAR) is friendly and not too condescending when you show up with a shoebox of reciepts and without a clue. I am actually getting better about organization because I like him and want to put him through less hell. Twisted, but true. I wish there was more of a big-picture service approach (better to plan the deductions and such, rather than wish you had done something different), but for taxes, this is a fine option and smoother than the corporate shops.

I'm surprised to hear the reviews that Ed has a bad attitude, is unpleasant or 'disappears'. This has never been my experience with him. He picks up the phone, timely calls me back and even during the 'off season' for taxes, he has been kind to give me a few minutes to ask tax related questions. This gentleman is a hard-working independent tax professional. He does have a dry sense of humor and I guess for some people, that just simply comes off wrong or arrogant. For me, I find it entertaining and refreshing. He takes what he does very seriously and he has been doing this a long time. If you're going to judge the man, consider this, he has been in business for himself a very long time. Along the way, I am sure you may have a few mishaps or screw-ups. But the best way to get to know a person is to pick up the phone, talk to them or make an appointment to see them face to face. In my opinion, Ed has a lot of integrity and he works very hard for his clients. Yes, I do have to pay for his services and they are more than Turbo Tax, but to have him handle my complicated taxes is worth the money every single year.

Mistakes were made on both years. Ed also began to refuse to return my calls with questions. When I notified him that I would be using a different practitioner going forward he became noncommunicative. My new CPA had to hound him in order to get my information from him. Not only is this illegal, but it's unethical. I would highly recommend choosing someone different to handle your delicate financial transactions.

They've always been incredibly accommodating and after my first year with them, tax time no longer made me want to curl in the fetal position in the back of my closet. Beyond knowing I'm getting the best return possible...I've also constantly been impressed with how they embrace technology. From my first year, physically dropping off copies of receipts and w-2s to uploading scanned images to an FTP server, to investigations into online form submittable...theyre always looking for ways to improve the overall experience. Even payment can be done online. They always make time to answer questions...and to make sure the entire process is transparent so you know where you are in the process. As a newly self-employed professional, I realized the importance of having a tax expert on my side but was clueless as to how the process goes and how we would work together. Jason specializes in the self-employed such as myself and small businesses. He is not only handling the filing aspects for me throughout the year, but he offered to inform me about my IRA options to build a retirement fund, etc. After getting him the information he needed, he provided a guesstimate so I would know what to expect. I was surprised at his fee compared to all my years of filing for free with Turbo Tax, but he's going to save me so much more than I ever could have on my own, he will more than pay for his services with what I saved, and I might even see some considerable cash coming my way. All in all, I am really grateful that I don't have to worry about Uncle Sam anymore... and that is practically priceless : )

I got married last year and he took the time to research the pros and cons of filing jointly or separately. So helpful! When I received a scary notice from the IRS that said I owed thousands of dollars, Michael was of course the first person I reached out to. Not only did he ease my concerns, but he was able to figure out where things had gone wrong (I used to do my own taxes) and how to fix it. Avoid at all costs. Cannot stress this strongly enough, find anyone else. Yikes…read more I don't even know where to begin. We used Imtiaz Ahmad for several years to file taxes. The very first year, we had a lot of issues with communication. We would be told one thing via email, another thing via phone, and different things from different people. This led to our business being incorrectly filed, and we were on the hook for thousands in taxes. The second year, they recognized the mistake after multiple appointments to discuss. They corrected their mistake, we were charged again. Again, there were communication issues. While initially they acknowledged their mistake via email, over the phone they were defensive and blamed the IRS. The third year... well, we're still digging ourselves out of this mess. It was rocky from the beginning. Started out by having to file a correction for a mistake the made the previous year. Had an appointment to go over the next year's taxes, he mixed up which year we were filing. We caught it. Taxes filed. A few months later, we got a notice from the state threatening to claim our business and billing us for thousands of dollars. They suggested ways that we could look into hiding our business so the IRS couldn't take it, which didn't provide much reassurance. They again blamed the IRS, but acknowledged they left something out of our filing. We were told not to worry about paying the money, that it was resolved. Several months later, another notice from the IRS stating that we were now overdue on our payment. We contacted them to look into it, they said we had to pay the bill. They acknowledged their mistake, but again blamed the IRS. They filed another correction, and we were on the hook for thousands of dollars, despite being assured we didn't owe and would not be "out of pocket" any additional money. Who knows if that's the end of the problems. We were regularly treated very rudely and dismissively. When we'd discuss the frequent mistakes that were being made on our taxes, we'd be told how busy they were and that they had too many clients with a lot more money and more complicated taxes. I'm not sure what we were supposed to take from that, if it meant that we were unimportant because we didn't make enough for them to care or if it meant that they couldn't do our simpler taxes because they were spending too much time taking care of their more complicated cases. Either way, it made it clear we were not a priority for them. Getting straight answers from them always seemed to be a problem.
