this was the most ridiculous dental visit i've ever experienced. i met with dr. ehsan a few months ago to address my very necessary crown. he took the x-rays, and i spent approximately 10 minutes waiting for them to develop during which time he informed me that this is not what he does, which is something that the receptionist should have informed me over the phone-- especially given that i asked. beyond this, he charged me over $300 for the visit, which i find completely ludicrous and quite revealing of his character. i prefer to patronize doctors who pay me a bit more mind than simply what i will add to their pocketbook. read more

I had a little lump on the side of my tongue for seven years and had been really reluctant to have it removed, because I was worried about pain or scarring from the procedure. After so many years and biting through it so many times, I finally decided the time had come, and I called Dr. Ehsan's office to set things up. I am so glad I did, because it really could not have been any easier, quicker, or painless! The office staff were so friendly and helpful, and set me up with a consultation appointment at just a few days' notice. When I went in for the procedure, I arrived and my medical history was taken promptly, and I waited less than five minutes for the appointment. Dr. Ehsan was very good at explaining what was needed, and even persuaded me it was better to use scalpel rather than laser, which from some (hypochondriac!) online reading I'd convinced myself was better. He offered to remove the lump right then and there. I went in without insurance, and their finance manager explained the charges to me very clearly, and payment was quick and easy. His assistant prepped me for the surgery in a beautiful room with a beautiful view of the city, with windows open to get some fresh air, and I felt so comfortable and relaxed. To my astonishment, the entire procedure took less than five minutes, and thanks to his adept use of local anesthetic, I felt, quite literally, absolutely no pain whatsoever. I was sent home with clear after-care instructions. There was a little pain later in the day and the next day, but it was entirely manageable with acetaminophen. In a few days, just as they said, the stitches came out, and I was back to normal talking and eating. When I went in for my follow-up, I waited less than a minute, the results of the biopsy were explained to me clearly (all clear thank goodness), and the office staff were again so friendly. It has been healing up beautifully and right now after 8 days, it looks like there will be absolutely no scar at all, and my speech is coming back to its full glory from before the lump first appeared. What a wonderful experience. My only regret is not going to Dr. Ehsan to get this done many, many years ago! Highly recommended. :) read more

I went in recently for a consultation. My concern is about one of my wisdom teeth. Basically Dr. Ehsan didn't really listen to a word I said and insisted on lecturing me about getting all my wisdom teeth out ASAP. Maybe he right about this maybe he isn't... I'm going to get a second opinion. Regardless, the problem was in the way he talked to me. I am a married 28 year old... not a 15 year old who has no concept of how the mouth works. His tone was extremely condescending and impersonal. It sounds like he says the exact same thing to every person that walks in his office. BAD BEDSIDE MANNER. The review is based on a consultation prior to my attempted wisdom teeth removal. Now I have to seriously rethink if I want to do the extraction. 1. The consultation is MANDATORY and costs over $300. Before I came in his office his staff evaluated that I only need to pay $47 because the rest is covered by my insurance. I got confirmation on that when I walked in his office. 2 weeks later, I received a bill for an additional $150, saying that some of the procedures are not covered by my insurance and that I need to pay out of my own pocket. But what procedures? My X-ray is covered, so it must be the 10-minute talking by looking at my X-ray. LITERALLY 10-MINUTE. Had I know the consultation costs my $200 in advance there is no way I would go there in the first place. 2. The 10-MINUTE consultation is nice, but gives me no more information than searching randomly online about third molar. (There are pretty good video's on another dentist's website, whose office in the same building of Dr Ehsan, you can search on yelp to find out.) 3. I was offered only the option of full anesthesia, even when I told them it is really inconvenient for me because I don't have someone to pick me up and ride the taxi with me at work time. Later I read yelp reviews for other dentists and realized at other places you get to choose whether or not to have a full anesthesia. With full anesthesia you go to sleep (which minimizes pains of course), but it costs you at least $1000 more. This withhold of information brings my distrust in them. Other than that, the staffs are friendly and his facilities look nice and clean. That's all what I can comment on. read more

when i came to (after the removal of three impacted wisdom teeth), it dawned on me that nothing at all could have happened during my surgery because i felt absolutely fine. in fact, i could only vaguely remember what had happened that day, but was reminded by the anesthesia tanks and I.V. and of course, the smiling face of dr. ehsan. what a nice guy - and let me tell you, i don't let just anybody get in my mouth! my pre-extraction consultation was a comfortable experience as well. i was pleased with the immaculate office, great computer system, fun trashy magazines (us, people, harpers, etc), and the uber nice staff (yah myra). even the x-ray machine didn't freak me out *too* badly as it was pretty new and spiffy looking and thus hopefully lessened the radiation thru my physical being. (here's the hippie test: do you stand in front of a microwave if it's on? NO WAY! do you dread x-rays? OF COURSE!). the first day after my surgery (thursday) i was sure i would be able to eat solid food by the weekend. HAH! its a week later and i'm still slurping soup (lord, i am so tired of blended and soft things). but i have to say, abundant amounts of motrin and vicodin did me good (minus the coming-off mood swings. watch out!). overall, i am quite satisfied with my experience but DAYAM those are some expensive teeth ($420 each + $600 anesthesia). they treated em like treasure too, cuz they wouldn't let me take em home. bah. and there's my only complaint. read more

I was referred by my dentist to have my wisdom teeth pulled out. It's hurting quite a bit, so I needed it done ASAP. My dentist called, left a voicemail and told me they would call back. After waiting around for a couple hours, I decided to call myself. They answered right away and told me that I would have to wait about 3 weeks just for a consultation. When I mentioned the pain, I got an "Oh well" kind of response. It would have been nice if they could have told me that before I sat here doing nothing about the pain in my mouth for the last few hours. No clue how good this place is at their profession...but common courtesy is something they could use a little more training on. read more

I came to these reviews AFTER deciding not to have a procedure performed at this office... and after only dealing with the office staff by phone. To get to the point, they made me really nervous - cold, not helpful or friendly, very much about the money - and took a couple of hours of "Searching" to "try to figure out" my insurance coverages that two other dentists solved in about 60 seconds with no questions for me at all, and no suggestions that I don't understand who my insurer is. Bad vibes. I stayed away.. then came to yelp to check out someone else and put in this name out of curiosity... and think i made the right decision to find another doctor. read more

While the services we received were good, it's more than just the actual "services" that matter. It's unfortunate that this office is not aware of that. With double insurance it still was not enough, and we had to fork out a chunk of money and had to ask for the refund. Seems to me that it should have been forwarded to us immediately. Edit: They finally sent me the x-ray in the mail and waived the $25, and asked me to change this review. ---------- I would give 0 stars if I could. I needed a copy of the x-rays taken by this dentist for my regular dentist. X-rays which I paid for, which they have in digital format so it costs them nothing. Not only would they not email it to me, they insisted on sending me a printed copy AND requested $25 for it. That is absolutely ridiculous. I paid for the X-rays so they are mine. Why should I pay $25 for something that is mine and costs absolutely nothing to them, as they just have to attach the image to email! read more

After 3 years of dread and occasional wisdom teeth pain, and that magical age of 26 creeping up (after which I would have more pain and less insurance), I decided that this year would be the one I'd get my wisdom teeth pulled. So I found the place with highest Yelp reviews, checked that it worked with insurance and just went with it. Overall, the experience was a positive one. They do oral surgeries several times a day, and they seem to know what they're doing. Instructions and consulting were good and to the point. The waiting time for appointments wasn't as bad as I've heard they can be: it was around 6 weeks between consultation and the surgery. The surgery went smoothly. Nothing I feared would happen happened, and recovery went fine. They have a nice view, which I wouldn't really look for in an oral surgeon, and added "earthquake happening while I'm getting my teeth pulled" to my bizarre set of worries. read more

If I could give 100 stars it wouldn't be enough! I normally don't write too many reviews but, Dr. Ehsan is an excellent surgeon and I want to scream it from the mountains. So, I had my wisdom teeth removed from them a while back (I had a great experience. You can see the review on here too) and when my dentist, Dr. Patel, wanted to refer me for the cyst in my jaw there was only one oral surgeon that could handle these tricky cases with ease in his book....Dr. Ehsan!!! My experience: Office: Very clean, on the 22nd floor with great views of SF. Staff: When I called in for the appointment I was put in right away because the cyst was pushing down on a nerve and I was in pain. When I got to the office I was greeted by Myra. She is so sweet and made me feel sooo comfortable. Dental Assistants: I was greeted again by Gerard who so kindly took my coat to hang in the closet. I had a panoramic xray and waited for the doc. While waiting I had a beautiful view which calmed my anxiety until I heard the doctor. Consultation w/Doctor: I was so scared. Dr. Ehsan came into the room and warmly greeted me. He is extremely nice, compassionate, understanding.... I had many questions and NEVER felt rushed by him. He answered each question very patiently. I was put at ease by the answers because he spoke with such expertise that every fear in my head diminished. He told me that he could remove the cyst today because I was in so much pain. He gave me a few minutes to think about it. Myra came back in and gave me the insurance breakdown. They break it down so clearly on how much my insurance covered and what my responsibility would be. There are NO HIDDEN COSTS. They even did a pre-auth for me and it was exact to the cent. I don't understand why so many ppl are commenting on insurance! The doctors are not responsible for the insurance that you have chosen. If you want better coverage on your dental plans talk to your employer. Cyst Removal: I was given thorough instructions on after care before the surgery and Myra was so sweet that she even discussed the after care instructions to my husband if I was out of it. Dr. Ehsan did an excellent job removing the cyst and a molar. He even used some stem cell to rebuild my jaw bone so I could get a dental implant later. Since I hadn't eaten that morning I chose to go under general anesthesia. He put in the needle and I didn't even feel it...very smooth. I was out real quick. I woke up a little groggy but it was normal. I was given antibiotics and pain medication. Dr. Ehsan called me that night to check up on me. I had more questions and he answered each one of them so patiently. Follow up care visit: I only took 2 pain meds and finished all my antibiotics. I didn't have any swelling or bruising. I went back in for a check up in about a 2 weeks and everything was healing fine. I was not rushed and received the same hospitality as before. Next visit will be for my implant...yay! I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed and overall experience was good. They were able to schedule me when I wanted and didn't give a fuss when I had to reschedule with only 3 days notice. I had another other wisdom tooth extracted ages back and I can say that this time I healed much more rapidly. I will say a negative though.,,, There was a cut stitched up on the inside of my cheek that looked out of place. Accidental cut....? not sure, but whatever, no biggie considering the heal time on the extraction. The costs breakdown (gross costs) : consultation and xray $350 extraction ~$450 General anesthesia ~$700 total ~ $1500 out of pocket after insurance (~$250) Mind you, I believe they had to cut the tooth in half to get it out of there... so it wasn't a simple procedure. Provided the insurance costs are what was estimated, I'd recommend him to others. read more

Lets just say that dentists aren't typically my favorite people to go see. Add in the word surgeon and you can just imagine my added excitement. That said, Dr Ehsan was absolutely fantastic. He's kind, straight to the point and won't tell you things just because you want to hear them. I was incredibly impressed with how direct he was and by the end of my first appointment I couldn't think of a single question that he hadn't already answered. He told me exactly what to expect after the surgery and I appreciated not feeling surprised with anything. Surgery was well planned, I was in and out and everyone who helped me was wonderful. I recently had Dr. Ehsan remove my upper wisdom teeth out. Going into the appointment, I was extremely nervous and a little bit scared too. Those suckers are in my gums and he's going to pull them out, I thought. Just the thought of it is scary. Well, his staff is extremely comforting. Everything was explained to me and they asked if I had any questions. All of them are all so nice and put me at ease that I was going to be ok. One of the staff, Gerard, brought me to the surgery room and set everything up to prepare for the doctor to come in. He has a nice calming voice and he had me talking about other things to get my mind off of the surgery. Dr. Ehsan comes in and explains everything that he's going to be doing. First the numbing and then the extraction. The part where I was being numbed was the worst part...it felt like a really long pinch. I like that Dr. Ehsan set the expectation for what was going to happen and how I might feel when he numbed me and when he did the extraction. Just knowing what to expect helped me be a little less nervous. Next thing I know he's done with pulling out both teeth and I didn't even realize it...and I was awake the whole time! After the surgery, Gerard explained to me all that I needed to do after I got home. I came back for my follow up visit the following week and that was it. Super easy! I've been wanting to say this for so long!! I'm so sick of seeing people complaining about being overcharged. I work in dentistry, primarily with insurance. Why is it that people think dental insurance means you're covered 100%? Why do people think that the office is supposed to be 100% accurate with their ESTIMATES? Dental insurance is just a really nice "coupon". Dont go to an office and blame them for over charging you because you dont know what your own coverage is. The people you should be mad at is the insurance company, not the doctor, considering we get the information to create estimates from the insurance company. Before you get treatment done, you should contact your insurance to find out what your coverage is. And frankly, it's not the office's responsibility to check your insurance. They do it as a courtesy. Next time you need a major procedure done, get a pre-authorization from your insurance people, geez!!! Anyway, Dr. Ehsan is great. So stop your complaining. :) read more

I just got my top two wisdom teeth out yesterday evening and I must say, I feel amazing! Dr. Ehsan is exactly how the previous yelpers describe him to be...so everything I am going to say will probably sound very familiar, but I will describe my personal experience anyways. The service is always great at Dr. Ehsan's office even before you walk in the door. The front desk ladies, Eva and Linda, make going over appointments and insurance breakdowns effortless and they are super nice. When I went in for my surgery I was really nervous talking to my friend who was there to drop me off and pick me up afterwards, but when I went back into the surgery room, the anethesialogist reassured me all was going to be fine, set me all up for surgery with oxygen and heart rate monitor, and kept me in comfortable conversation until the doctor came in. When Dr. Ehsan came in he shook my hand and asked me what I had for lunch (to make sure I had not eaten anything 6 hours prior)...I told him that I hadn't eaten since that morning, so he nodded that was fine and proceeded to stick the IV in my arm. After that, it's a bit fuzzy...I remember I couldn't describe my job very well when he asked me...almost like I forgot what I did and what my name was. Then as I was describing something I do...I went out. I woke up to the feeling of the assistant sticking guaze in my mouth and telling me that the surgery went well and she was going to go get my friend to go over my after care instructions. Later that night, literally 3 hours after I left the office, Dr. Ehsan called me himself (from his cell phone!!) to ask how I was doing and that if I had any questions to give him a call whenever. He prescribed me Vicodin and Ibuprofen, but I've only used a couple of the Vicodin-- I don't need them! The operation was just that smooth. And I'm not puffy- AT ALL. My bleeding was minimal and by the way things are going, I'm going to try soft more solid foods tomorrow (I'm living off of pudding, applesauce, and yogurt now...just to be safe). This is the best dental experience I've ever had. I'm in much less pain than when I had a deep cleaning done a few months ago by my regular dentist (who I love as well, but deep cleaning gums hurts like hell and I wasn't put under G.A. then, just local anethesia). Great service, very nice man. Very nice employees. I highly recommend him to anyone needing oral surgery. I definitely can't imagine going to anyone else for any future issues I may have. 100% satisfied. ***UPDATE*** -- February 8th (a week after surgery) It was an amazing recovery. So much so that today I went back for a 5 minute check-up and the doctor said that my stitches have dissolved fine and my healing is that of someone that would have gotten this procedure done a month ago. *I bow now* Ha ha...but of course I can't take all the credit. I'm sure he's just smoooooth like that. And you know, it's a nice feeling getting a good doctor (and by good, I mean the ones who actually care about your well-being and not just a paycheck) like that. I still feel the tiniest something back there in my mouth...but damn. Do I ever want to naw on a steak really bad!!!! I could never be a vegetarian. i went for my appt to take out my wisdom teeth today. my hands were sweaty and i was talking nonsense to the receptionists. yes. i was really nervous they were so nice and explained to me everything in detail. Dr Ehsan talked to me about my job to relax me and 10 sec later, I passed out. I have absolutley no pain. No discomfort. And was only drowsy the first 20 min post - op. no one got grossed out when i tried to drink water and drooled all over myself. haha. and he just called me to check up on me :). yeyy. read more

The procedure was quick less than 20 minutes, painfree, and his staff provided a thorough review of the planned procedures as well as post-op care instructions. Dr. Ehsan took our my (four) wisdom teeth a few months ago. He was awesome. One of the reasons I chose him (besides all the positive Yelp reviews) was that I didn't want IV sedation, and a couple of people had mentioned that he was willing to do the extractions without IV sedation. I had novacaine and nitrous oxide and it worked out great. I had no pain at all when the teeth were removed. Later that day I had some pain , but it was minor enough that I didn't bother to take any painkillers. By the next day I was barely noticing anything at all. When I saw all of the positive reviews for Dr. Ehsan on Yelp, I assumed the staff must be bribing patients somehow to write good reviews. But this is not the case. No one from the office ever mentioned Yelp to me. People love this guy because he simply does a fantastic job! BTW, it is true that on the initial consultation he comes off as a bit rushed. But, I think it's just because he has done this same procedure a million times. I'd much rather have someone who comes off a bit rushed but has tons of experience, than someone who has a more relaxed bedside manner because they don't have a lot of patients. read more

Dr. Ehsan saw my now husband a couple of years ago (emergency wisdom tooth removal) and we thought he was fantastic, although, yes a little expensive. My husband was a tourist at the time and so had no insurance. They didn't make us feel bad about asking so many questions about the cost and having to run downstairs to get money from the ATM. My husband said he felt no pain during the procedure and it was all over rather quickly. We felt very well take care of and really appreciated the high level of customer service given by both the doctor and his staff. If you're looking for quality and are able to spend a bit more, definitely see Dr. Ehsan. read more

sometimes in life, you need something and you need it to be done right, no problems, no mess ups, no ongoing issues. in other words, you want to put that problem in the past so you can move on. Dr. Ehsan is the man you need for your oral surgery and implant issues. i have an excellent dentist, in practice for over 30 years, but i had a serious problem and it was challenging for my dentist to deal with. god bless him, he did his best, but i needed an expert, or i guess, i should say, what i needed was to have the guess/luck factor removed from the equasion. let me say something. Dr. David Ehsan is a doctor and a surgeon AND he does oral surgery and implants.. get it? his skill level is beyond that of any dentist. when you meet with him, he's professional, efficient and confident. i've worked with surgeons before as part of an orthopedic team. believe me, he has not only the skill and confidence of a surgeon, but also the bedside manner that 90% of surgeons see as an unnecessary element of their jobs. as i said, i had a difficult issue. i consulted with him, and came back for the procedure. it was like being on the express. the office was a professional, clean, appointed suite. the staff was professional, friendly and energetic. coming in for the procedure was efficient relaxing and comfortable. i used general anesthesia, but i wasn't conscious of being placed "under" becasue i thought i was conscious for the whole procedure, but instead, dr. ehsan had me under for the rough part. during the last few minutes i was awake and he was talking to me and i was wondering when he was going to start. he was done!. i was out the door, on my feet, feeling the same as when i went in. i've had general anesthesia before and when it's not done right, you feel sick, tired and drugged afterwards. when it's done right, you're just sitting there wondering when they're going to start... and they're already finished! if you need something done right, and done right the first time in the most professional, clean, efficient and skilled way possible. LOOK NO FURTHER. THIS IS IT. i also have to say it was great to hear dr. ehsan's voice on my answering machine to check up on me and to see if i had any questions. that's going the extra mile. read more

I was referred to Dr. Ehsan by my dentist Dr. Julie Karnases, I need to have an extraction done and I not only was impressed with the % my insurance is covering but in the estimate the office was willing to "write off" the difference that would have been my portion leaving me with $18.50 to pay, OK I know times are tough but for a dentist they are beyond fair I paid $8.50 on the consultation, that was not picked up by my ins. but expected to pay a much larger portion on the extraction it self, turns out I only need to pay $150 for the laughing gas (I opted for) because this is not covered, but I'm still hundreds less than I expected to be. I agree with Erica P. It's not the Dr. offices fault if they are misquoted by the clients insurance company and the lady who booked my appointment went over that in detail with me. Dr. Ehsan himself came and explained the procedure spoke to me about the different options and was friendly, polite & reassuring. I'm not a nervous person @ the dentist office, but I have to say the "Oral surgery" had me kinda freaked out, he said we do this everyday, it's nothing out of the ordinary for us. The process should not determine if you choose to have an implant, cost should be the only concern. So I feel much better about the whole thing. Dr. Ehsan took out my upper wisdom teeth yesterday. I choose local anesthesia only option and was conscious. He explained the procedure and what I should expect before and during the surgery. It went very quickly and without pain. I started to have a slight pain on one side a few hours after the surgery but with pain medication, it's not too bad. The other side feels and looks totally normal like nothing happened. I'm happy with the results. He is very professional and skilled. I highly recommend him. read more

I've had two major sessions with Dr. Eshan for extractions as well as prep for an upcoming implant. I can not recommend the man highly enough. The extractions were clean and pain free. I had my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Ehsan last year. From the consultation where he efficiently and clearly explained the procedure, potential complications, and healing process and follow-up visits, he and his staff have been incredible. There's nothing fun about it, but he made it as smooth as possible. He's extremely professional. San Francisco is on longer convenient for day-to-day things, but if I required an oral surgeon again, I'd definitely go out of my way to see Dr. Ehsan. read more

A couple of years ago, I had an orthodontic exposure and bonding procedure done by Dr. Ehsan who came highly recommended by my Orthodontist. The process from beginning to end was seamless. He called me the evening of the procedure to check on how things were going, which was very sweet of him. He and his team helped me understand my insurance and were very thorough about everything. Just recently I had my braces removed and my orthodontist recommended I have my wisdom teeth removed. I went to Dr. Ehsan again and he explained the procedure to me from start to finish and in the end, I was less nervous about the procedure. After the procedure, Dr. Ehsan was nice enough to call me yet again and check up on me o. I got all four of my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Ehsan a few days ago and I was really impressed and how easy and painless it was. I was in pain for a day or two after the surgery and had some swelling, but having talked to my friends I feel like the whole procedure went about as well as could be imagined. I had it done under general anesthesia and it took one hour and went very smoothly. He does talk fast but he asked me several times if I had any questions and gave clear explanations to everything I asked. The office is very professional and organized. read more
