It is hidden away at the top of Chippenham, however I would definitely recommend a visit. Inside there are three floors of past and present, my favourite being the top floor, which houses the most wondeful collection of music memorabilia I have ever seen. It is a cosy attic-type place with racks everywhere of old LPs, singles, CDs and books, just like how record shops used to and should be. I would recommend that everyone who can visit Magpie - I can guarantee that you will come out with something that you never intended to buy in the first place, but will not regret doing so!

Dave Christopher is a good solid jeweller with some very nice shops across the South West. The thing I like about this shop as opposed to other jewellers is how it caters for tastes right across the market. On one hand for instance they offer to buy people's gold for cash, alongside seemingly cheap and tacky earrings and gifts - clearly aiming at the lower end of the market. In juxtaposition to this you have a Rotary watch section with price tags that look more like phone numbers! It's a fair place offering good, honest jewellery.

Antiques on High has the proper smell of old things and has an interesting range of antiques. Rather than focusing on big pieces of furniture, which so many antique shops do, it uses its space wisely to host: Jewellery, books, records, clothes, ornaments, pictures, maps and various collectables. The condition of the goods varies, but they're priced fairly reasonably. I find it's best to go in without the aim of buying something in particular, but just to browse. I can't say anything has ever caught my eye enough to want to buy it, but I've seen plenty of other people who have found the perfect addition to their home or the ideal gift. The best bit is the craft section, where there's a gallery of jewellery, leather, pottery, glass and art in general, all produced locally and all promising to be valuable antiques in the future. There's a great range in here and you can get something for less than a pound or spend hundreds of pounds. Equally, you can pop in for a few minutes or spend hours browsing - it's almost like a mini museum. If you like antique shops, this won't disappoint; if you've never been in one, try approaching it. Don't be put off by the prison-like bars in the windows; the staff are friendly and it's a different world inside.

A girlie girl's heaven!…read more Jewellery Lane, situated just outside St Nicholas' Market is a teeny tiny shop filled with gold and silver pieces at top notch prices. But don't dear if these are outside your budget as they also stock more reasonably priced costume pieces as well as beaded necklaces and bracelets. The shop owner is exceptionally friendly and always happy to chat (especially about the pieces in store). My favourite part about jewellery lane is the fantastic window displays which change to suit the season. They also will be able to help with repairs and alterations.

Tucked on a busy corner of the market, this is a very very small shop! It is pretty much all window…read moredisplays and then a counter inside. It has a great selection of expensive and unusual gold and platinum but also round one side has cheaper dress jewellery and work by local makers. This section has some unusual pieces, from ultra-modern to hippie/gothic styles. The owner is very friendly, items are wrapped lovingly in coloured tissue papers and ribbons so makes for perfect gifts. They also provide a repairs and alterations service, which is sent off site so not on the spot. I had a very delicate gold chain altered and she took a lot of time to get it right when I was in the shop and the work was completed with great care.

I was unfortunate enough to be served by a person called Amy, I had taken my Breitling watch in for a new battery and pressure test. When I went back to pick up my watch this Amy informed me that there was an issue with the watch. I was obviously worried and asked what the issue was and she informed that me that whoever I'd taken my watch too beforehand had rounded off the screw and they were having to order a tool to get into it. I informed her that we'd always gone to Iles and she said I don't think so and anyway we mark our batteries. I informed her that I was happy with that as she see that when the back was opened. However I was incredibly worried about any potential damage. I also wasn't happy that this Amy had practically called me and my husband liars. I telephoned the shop and spoke to Denise the manager who informed me that there wasn't an issue with my watch and that they had mislaid the tool for Beitling watches and had to order a new one!! Why didn't that Amy say that? I rang once I'd received a text to say my watch was ready - my luck ..... not!! As Amy answered, I asked to speak to Denise, she was busy, so I asked her if she would confirm the source of my old battery, she said she couldn't as the jeweller had just gone to lunch, so I asked her if Denise could call me when he was back, he's not coming back I told you that came the reply - so ........ The outcome - yes my battery was changed by them - I have recommended lots of friends here and I'd say this to my friends and any potential new customers - steer clear of Amy, she hasn't a clue what she is talking about and is extremely rude and has no gripes in practically calling customers liars - Denise and the other ladies are the only people who have secured my future custom. This Amy needs more customer service training and more importantly she needs more training on all items of that this jeweller sells, repairs and watches that they replace the batteries in.
