My surgery was in 2016, and now, 10 years later, I could not be happier with the decision or more grateful for the outcome. Since it had been many years since my surgery, I decided to look him up again to see what my friend might find in an online search. After reading some of the one- and two-star reviews, I felt compelled to share my own experience. Dr. Samadi has a very special gift. I thank God every day for his medical knowledge, surgical skill, and the care he provided to me. He is truly a fantastic doctor and surgeon. I did have one unpleasant experience at the hospital, but it had nothing to do with Dr. Samadi or anyone on his personal team. It involved other hospital staff. With a different attitude, I could have allowed that one incident to define my entire experience, but that would have been unfair and would have completely missed what mattered most: the exceptional medical care and surgical outcome Dr. Samadi gave me. His staff was second to none! Who cares if he does not always wear scrubs or if his waiting room sometimes feels like a newsroom? I did not choose him based on his clothing or office atmosphere. I chose him because I wanted an extraordinarily talented surgeon to treat a serious medical condition--and that is exactly what I received. My husband found out that he had prostate cancer recently. He's in his early 50's. Went to Dr. Samadi as he was one of the top 3 robotic surgeons recommended in NYC to get an opinion. The office staff were nice enough, and we got an appointment in a few days. Arrived on time, but then they asked us for our paper work - which was never sent to us ahead of time. We spent the next 20 mins filling out papers which meant he took us late. 10 minutes into our appointment he stood up and announced that he was late for something else, and so he had to leave and his PA would finish up with us. He never once even looked at anything that we filled out. Although we knew up front that he didn't participate with our insurance so his surgeon's fee would have to be paid out of pocket (that was mentioned MANY times . . . ), we asked if the rest of the surgery would be covered by insurance and we were told yes. His office was fully aware which insurance we had, but didn't tell us up front that St Francis Hospital on Long Island where he operates was not a participating hospital. We would not have sought an opinion from a surgeon where we'd have to pay for the entire surgery out of pocket had we known. I'll know better for next time to check myself. Reviews from other urologists we know about him are mixed: some think he's an amazing surgeon, others are not a fan. Our own experience wasn't terrific. I have been a patient of Dr. Samadi since 2016..I was diagnosed with prostate cancer Gleason 6..I asked Dr. Samadi what he would do if I were his brother and he recommended removal..we did so and final pathology showed a significant percentage of Gleason 7..and NO spread outside the envelope..total success and PSA remains undetectable.. the story continued the following year when Dr. SAMADI found growths in my bladder.. early detection and surgery for removal of a signigicant but non invasive cauliflower growth..6 more in hospital procedures the past 3 years and finally we seem to have conquered the incidence of these superficial low grade growths.. Now we continue with systoscopy every 4 months to check on any issues.. Dt. Samadi is now a good friend and i am fortunate to be in his care.. I was referred to Dr. Samadi via Lenox Hill Hospital. I wound up the ER late one night back in February due to a horrifically painful kidney stone that was too large to pass. I had to undergo 3 procedures to deal with it. Dr. Samadi was assigned to me and performed all 3 procedures -- 2 in the hospital and 1 in his office. By all accounts and resources online, Dr. Samadi appears to be one of the best in urology. However, his bedside manner is dry and forgettable. His office management team is a little disjointed. When I was in a lot of pain after the 2nd stent was put in, I called his office to tell them about some pain I was feeling, and I was put on hold and then disconnected. They didn't bother to call me back. A week later when I had the stent removed at his office, he notes that the scope shows "a lot of unusual bleeding and irritation in the bladder from the stent." Yeah, no s**t, that's why I called your office to complain about the pain. More than office mismanagement, what I really didn't like was the blatant display of the for-profit healthcare system proudly on display: the Architectural Digest inspired "theater" in midtown on a high floor; the pictures of race horses and rare baseball memorabilia auctions framed on the walls; the high-end furniture and newsroom-like atmosphere in the waiting area; the expensive suits he feels compelled to wear for patient visits (he actually wore a suit when he and his team removed that last urethral stent from my body); very expensive co-pays for 5-minute office visits. It's a little absurd. All this just makes me loathe the medical community. I realize he has a private practice and is not some mega-merger publicly-traded healthcare company. But it just saddens me. He projects the image that doctors clearly get rich off the system (and your suffering) and we're supposed to be humbled by their rock-star status. I'm betting that probably 50 other doctors in Manhattan could have remedied my condition in 1 hospital procedure, and not left me with a 5-figure patient liability (totaling up office co-pays and patient liability). At the time when I searched for a surgeon to perform a prostate surgery I read an article in The Daily News about the radio talk show host and Guardian Angels leader Curtis Sliwa. His case was very complicated because he has been wounded many times in the abdomen, and Dr.Samadi performed the surgery on him, and he got back to work in 3 days. I had my surgery in October 2011, here are some of my notes:1. Before surgery, when IV has been installed on my left arm, the hair was not shaved of my arm, and before discharge the nurse had a problem removing a tube with a lot of tapes from the arm. It was painful.2. After surgery, I felt pain but I thought it is usual and did not complain. However in the night my blood pressure showed over 180, I asked to give me Atenolol which was prescribed by my cardiologist for emergency. When I got home I started taking Tylenol, my blood pressure remained normal and I slept pretty much. I believe Tylenol should always be given to patents after surgery. I appreciate Dr.Samadi's care of my wife arranging a bed for her to stay with me over the night.3. In Post Operative Instructions for Robotic Radical Prostatectomy in the section Catheter Care, should be added: For catheter removal appointment, bring briefs and Mans Guard pad with you.4.Since then I'm leaking with no hope for a normal life. In the article at webmd.com: There were lower rates of incontinence and erectile dysfunction with open surgery. The overall rate was 4.7% for laparoscopic surgery and 2.1% for open surgery. I've got in 4.7% unlucky patients. I cannot go away from home more than 5 blocks, Mans guard gets full in minutes, I even use paper towels in addition. I have to stay close to facilities or, in the darkness, find a place between houses and be on alert, in a while I get stinky. Also I have unpleasant time standing on a line at the store where people watch me holding packs of pads. When I meet our neighbor his dog sniffs me at the groin. It's such a fun! I have very strong belief that one of Dr.Samadi's residents practiced on me. You cannot know certainly when you are unconscious under anesthesia. I believe my case has been pretty ordinary. My PSA increased year by year and in 2011 reached 4.05. Then Dr.Scionti at NYU Medical Centerperformed a biopsy and in 4 pieces of 14 there was adenocarcinoma with a Gleason score 6-7. Dr.Scionti avaluated my prostate cancer as a moderate risk and recommended cryotherapy which is his specialty. I decided no reason to prolong the story and opted for a surgery. TL;DR: Would not recommend Dr Samadi for standard issues as he is running a high-volume operation that seems to be focused on having you come back to the office repeatedly and ordering multiple scans/tests for insurance. Very little personal interaction. First visit: I went for a standard semen analysis as we were planning to have kids. Experiencing no pain or ailments. Dr Samadi orders a ultrasound scan for varicocele and a semen analysis. $50 copay. Second visit: 1 week later I am told the results for BOTH the ultrasound and the semen analysis is complete and I can come in for the follow-up. I come in and the first question Dr Samadi asks "Are you still feeling any pain? Are you feeling better?". I was never feeling any pain. It is a 2min visit as we find out the semen analysis is not ready. I am told it takes 2-3 weeks to get the semen analysis. Another $50 copay. Phone call: I refuse to come in again to pay another $50 copay to talk to Dr. Samadi for 2min. I request to have him call me, which he surprisingly does. He says there are ZERO sperm in my semen analysis - very abnormal. Schedules me for another semen analysis and tells me to come back THREE months later. Second opinion: I get a second opinion and do a follow up semen analysis elsewhere. It takes one day to turnaround the analysis and there is nothing wrong with my semen. read more

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 10 years ago. i was devastated and scared. A friend referred me to Dr. Samadi, the best surgeon using the Da Vinci System for prostate removal. He told me to relax and that everything was going to be fine He and his team were very professional and they explained to me all the nuances of the operation and all the steps for a complete recovery. Very rude and inefficient. The surgery for radical prostatectomy did no go smooth. I had some complications that he said were normal. I knew later that he lied. They were a direct result of his surgery. I had pain after the surgery that never went away. It was constant and totally destroyed my schedule. Most likely he injured a nerve in the procedure. Dr. David Samadi has been a truly exceptional surgeon who has helped me through a difficult time with my diagnosis of prostrate cancer. My journey started when my primary care physician noted an irregularity on my prostate exam and a slightly increasing PSA level. My regular doctor recommended another urologist who did prostate biopsies which showed a Gleason 7. I was given a couple of treatment options including surgery. Since I'm only in my late 50's, I chose not to try the more conservative treatment options and decided to proceed with surgery. My primary care recommended urologist was older and only performed open prostatectomy which seemed dated and behind the times. I then researched other urologists and found Dr. Samadi. Thank god for Google sending me to Dr. Samadi because I had a great experience. From his office to the hospital staff, everyone on his team was wonderful and caring. Our overall impression of Dr. Samadi was--Arrogant. He took 5 minutes to ask annoying questions about why we didn't come to him sooner. We had been told by other urologists to take a wait and see attitude but numbers accelerated suddenly. After performing surgery he never came out of surgery to tell me (Wife) how things went. I alwsys questione whether he performed the surgery. His robotic surgery left my husband both impotent and incontinent. Dr. Samadi is an exceptional physician and surgeon. I am an executive in the health care field and can recognize high competence when I see it. I would highly recommend him to anyone who has any urological issues especially if dealing with prostate cancer and contemplating robotic surgery. He saved my husband's life twice. The first time he performed robotic surgery due to prostate cancer and my husband came out perfect from the surgery. He did not experience urination nor sexual dysfunction issues. My husband has been going for regular check ups ever since. This year my husband skipped a visit which was due in May and received a call to go for a check up. We were due to leave for Europe in a few days and my husband responded that he would go after our return. Dr Samadi insisted that he come for his yearly check up and rearranged his schedule to accommodate him within a few days in spite of his heavy patient load. Upon the visit blood was found in my husband's urine, he had a very large stone that was causing his urine to back-flow into his blood stream. Had we gone on vacation, my husband could have died due to toxicity caused by the back-flow of urine in his blood. To ensure that we would not cancel our vacation, Dr. Samadi gathered a surgical team within 2 days and opened the operating room on a Saturday to accommodate my husband. He told us he had not performed surgery on a Saturday in a very long time. After reading many negative comments I fully disagree with those who state that Dr. Samadi is all about money. I think he makes a good living and does not need to come in on his day off to accommodate a patient whose insurance is of a normal fee. I think he is genuine and truly cares about his patients. I would first like to say that this is the first review I have ever left for a doctor. I felt compelled to leave this review as I read these negative reviews on Yelp concerning Dr. David Samadi. All I can do is tell everyone out there that has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, Please and I repeat Please do not be influenced by the negative reviews you may have read here on Yelp! I will start off by telling you a little bit about my situation. My brother died from prostate cancer at the age of 45 years old. My sister died 18 months before him from lymphoma at the age of 44 and my mother died 20 months before her at the age of 63 from lung cancer, oh and my father died 12 years before my mother at the age of 56 from multiple myeloma. All dead from this terrible disease known as cancer. Now, this is my story. At the age of 48 and roughly 3 or 4 years after my brother died I had my yearly prostate checkup. My doctor felt a little a lump and after having a biopsy, 6 out of the 12 samples taken where cancerous, now I to, was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My wife and I got off to a late start having children. at the time, I had an 8 yr. old daughter, a 6 yr. old son, a 5 yr. old daughter and a 3 yr. old son. I was panicking; what do I do now? My medical doctor did not even hesitate to tell me to get myself into NY and go see Dr. Samadi. My wife says what are we going to do if he doesn't take my insurance? Me, well since no one in my family has ever survived a cancer diagnosis, I truly did not think my outcome would be any different. My wife calls and makes an appointment to see Dr. Samadi. He did not take my ins. but took my wife's ins. When we got to his office, his staff was the most professional staff I have ever seen. Nothing but polite and helpful from the start. They answered all questions we had. Then came Dr. Samadi; he walked out into his lobby and starts shaking hands and introducing himself to everyone waiting to see him. A total professional and a real gentleman!! All I know is I never had a doctor do that before and I go to a lot of doctors. When I got called in to see Dr. Samadi, he brought me into an exam room and gave me an exam. He checked out the biopsy report and started asking me about my history. I told him about my father,mother,sister and brother. I then told him that I have 4 little kids. Well all I can say is that this is the most compassionate doctor I have ever seen or spoken too! He then called myself and wife into his office. I asked him was this even be possible to have him as my doctor? (My wife explained to him that he does not take my insurance only hers.) He looked at my wife and told her: "first of all, we are not going to worry about the insurance" and my wife explained that we could never afford to pay for a surgery like this. He looked at her and said: "You do not have to worry about your insurance or any money. My job is going to be operating on your husband and all you are to worry about is taking care of your husband so that the 2 of you can both take care of your 4 little children. I promise you he'll be fine." I don't know about anyone else out there but I for one have never had a doctor ever say anything like that in my life, and as I said earlier, I have seen a lot of doctors in my life and the first thing they usually ask you for is your insurance and if they don't take it , you are shown the door. I am not sure what happened with those individuals who left the negative reviews, I think they may have Dr. Samadi confused with some other Dr. or as Dr. Samadi responded to the one individual, getting a diagnosis of cancer of any kind is an incredibly stressful time and sometimes things do not go as hoped. We are talking about an incredibly insidious disease in cancer. I can only speak for myself and my family. Dr. Samadi is a one of a kind! He's the best doctor I've ever had in my life. I've never been treated with anything but professionalism and honesty by Dr. Samadi and his fantastic staff during all of my visits which has now been the past 5+ years. I have never waited more than 1or 2 days at the most for any of my test results. Thanks to Dr Samadi I have been cancer free, going on my 6th year now. He has given me something I will never be able to repay him for, and that is all the time I have spent with my best friend-my beautiful wife and my 4 wonderful children. First of all, he saved my friends life. His expert eye spotted something during the prostate surgery that most surgeons would NOT have seen. With a slightly different approach, my friend is still "negative" for prostate cancer 2 years after surgery. That should tell you more than anything else. His staff is super professional. There are not enough stars for Dr Samadi's review. I am a 43 year old male, and I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late October. Dr. Samadi came very highly recommended by a colleague. I saw him right after my biopsy diagnosis, and he said we need to act fast. By early December i had the robotic surgery. It could not have gone smoother. Minimal pain, was walking the same day, and most importantly the cancer was gone. After about 8 weeks I was back to working out, running, really no limitations. I would recommend Dr Samadi to anyone dealing with prostate cancer. I cant say THANK YOU enough, or even put into words, how everyone within Dr Samadi's group, (office staff, nurses, hospital staff, and of course DR Samadi himself) helped me through this. My husband was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer December 21, 2017. I wanted a doctor with experience to take care of my husband so I did some research and found Dr. Samadi in New York. I was very inspired reading the testimonials from his patients and family members. I called his office and within 24 hrs. he personally called my husband. He told my husband he would take care of him We both felt at peace to travel from Virginia to New York to have this surgery. Dr. Samadi and his office staff got the ball rolling. My husband had an appointment, surgery was scheduled along with the follow up appointments the same day he spoke to my husband. His office even made arrangements for my husband and I to have a place to stay for free. We felt like they were angels. Everything fell into place. We made the trip on 1-30-18 and met with Dr. Samadi. We were both nervous and scared as we went into the office. Everyone from Dr. Samadi to the nurses and office staff put us at ease. We left there feeling like this was definitely the right decision to come to New York. My husband had his surgery on 1-31-18 with no complications. We stayed at the Hope Lodge in New York which was also very inspiring. We met so many people that were going through different types of cancer treatments. Dr. Samadi is a true master of his craft. In maybe the toughest period of my father's life, Dr. Samadi's knowledgable care help guide him to the perfect result. Initially after the diagnosis, we were scared, and had to do alot of research and fact finding. On the recommendation of a fellow prostate cancer survivor, we contacted Dr Samadi's office and left a message. We were amazed when he personally called back just a few hours later. This epitomized the personal attention and service both Dr. Samadi and his staff provide. The office was state of the art and appointments ran on time. He does each surgery himself from start to end and on the day of surgery, everyone helped to put us at ease. The hospital rooms were fantastic. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in June of 2016, with a Gleason score of 8. I consulted with three doctors who all recommended surgery. Two of the doctors highly recommended Dr. Samadi due to his skill, experience, and number of surgeries performed. I decided to go with Dr. Samadi and have no regrets. He called me prior to arriving in NY as I am from out of state (Hawaii).. He stated "I will take good care of you". True to his word, he did. I am now 6 weeks post surgery and have no issues with incontinence or impotence. My first psa test result was 0.02. Dr. Samadi and his staff are very professional and thorough. All my questions were answered in a thorough manner. He is also accessible via text and has always returned my texts in a very timely manner. For those who have no option other than surgery I would definitely recommend Dr. Samadi. He is an excellent surgeon and also has a very good bedside manner.
