Appalling really, cobwebs and flies everywhere. Although the guy seemed reasonably friendly, he obviously had no idea how to care adequately for animals. The fish looked unhealthy and the tanks were dirty. There were three kittens locked in a tiny cage looking very distressed, with their water bowl saturated with sawdust, hence making the water undrinkable. There was a bird locked in a tiny cage by itself with no food, water, bedding, perch, entertainment or stimulation. Another bird across from it was in a larger cage, but there was no food, etc in that one either. There was a cage ostensibly containing hamsters but I could see no hamsters. Probably dead. And they were charging £10 pounds for each one, twice as much as an average pet shop. There were another four birds crammed into a tiny cage, and they were preening themselves excessively - a common sign of distress. Below the four birds was a guinea pig in a cage with only sawdust, and next to that were two rabbits crammed into a cage so small they couldn't even move. None of the cages were labelled with prices or information regarding the age or species of the animals. Admittedly, the cages looked pretty clean, but they were barren and grim, with no mental stimulation for the poor creatures. The selection of animals was very poor, but I'm glad considering the state the current ones were in. This pet shop fell far below the minimum standard I would expect from a pet shop, and I would say it's the worst one I've been in, even though I've seen bad pet shops before. I would urge anyone considering pet ownership to avoid this shop and perhaps go to Swan Street Pet Shop, for example, where the animals are reasonably cared for. The less business the owner gets, the less money, and hopefully we can put this guy out of business permanently, for the sake of the poor animals. read more
