Really chewy batter, mushy peas stewing in a watery broth, had to drain with fork, horrible tea.

As we went to sit inside we found a table and like most little businesses we where greeted with a cheery hello. Normally I just order fish and chips but on this menu I could choose which fish I wanted. Of course being northern I had to have a bit of "wet" with it, and pored my peas over my fish. As I did this a voice in the corner of the room stated to the rest of the diners that I must be northern as only northern folk pore peas over there fish, apparently... I confirmed with the gentleman that I was a northerner and he said that the local fish caught down here is second best to fish up north which made me proud. Anyway, I digress... The fish was indeed very nice, not too oily and the chips where spot on! The menu just doesn't include fish, there's sausages, pies and much much more! Staff where more than helpful and friendly! This well priced small business is a little gem in Fakenham and I will return again when I'm next down.

I was torn between 3 and 4 stars, 3 for the lack of service and how slow it was, 4 for the fish n…read morechips. We visited on a cold windy spring day where you couldn't see the sea for fog and it was a relief to get inside into warmth. The restaurant was busy but luckily they showed us to a table straightaway. Cute decor with painted walls and plain tables, which were set too closely together so it was difficult to pull out a seat to sit without disturbing those behind you. Menu was good, but expensive, and service slower than a drunk tortoise. We waited quite a while for our order to be taken, then they came back 10 mins later as they forgot it, then 10 mins later they tried to serve us someone else's order. It took a good 30 mins for our lunch to arrive so we were left hungry, looking at others eat during that time. The fish and chips was good, big serving but boney, too much batter for my taste, and the chips were a little soft. However we were hungry! The curry sauce was OK, a little powdery, but again we were hungry! We waited 10 mins to pay and ended up going and finding a member of staff so we could pay and be on our way. It is busy, it is right on the seafront, with a view if not foggy, so I guess you pay extra for that, but I don't think it is somewhere I would return to.

Some of us had enjoyed the fish & chips downstairs, this was the first time upstairs. The decor is simple, the view over the sea great, the service friendly and the food excellent. Scallops, tempura prawns and a Thai green bisque/crab cake as starters followed by lobster and plaice as mains and a maple & pecan cheesecake as dessert. A very nice meal indeed.
