Appointments only / no walk in Nichols Avenue Barber Shop: A…read moreCut Above the Rest (With a Side of Comedy) If you're looking for a sterile, silent salon experience, keep driving. But if you want to walk into a place that feels like the heartbeat of the neighborhood, Nichols Avenue Barber Shop is the legendary "old school" spot you've been searching for. At the center of it all is Little Joe, quite possibly one of the funniest guys to ever walk the earth. Sitting in Joe's chair isn't just a haircut; it's a front-row seat to a stand-up comedy special. The shop is constantly buzzing with humor, local lore, and a relentless stream of jokes that keep the entire room laughing. It's the kind of place where the "ribbing" is a sign of affection, and you'll leave feeling better than when you walked in--not just because of the mirror, but because of the spirits. Don't let the comedy routine fool you--Joe is a master with the shears and the clippers. You aren't just getting a "quick trim"; you are getting one of the best haircuts you'll ever get. Whether it's a classic taper, a high-and-tight, or a perfectly blended fade, the attention to detail is immaculate. He understands the geometry of a good haircut, ensuring it grows in perfectly and looks just as sharp two weeks later as it did the day you sat in the chair. In a world of chain shops and app-based bookings, Nichols Avenue Barber Shop preserves the authentic barber shop culture. It's a place where generations of families go, where the jokes are timeless, and where the service is personal. You pay for a haircut, but you get a masterclass in craft and a dose of much-needed laughter for free. The Bottom Line: You come for the "Little Joe" show, but you stay (and keep coming back) for the world-class haircut. It's an experience that reminds you why the local barber shop used to be the most important spot in town.

I'm from Central CT and have been looking for a good shop since I work in the Bridgeport area now…read more I've been with my barber since I was a kid so finding someone trustworthy was important to my decision. I was so reluctant to choose this shop and will continue to give them my business. The shop was both clean and welcoming; I was thoroughly impressed with the service and quality of the haircut! Both Richard and Victor went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable, continuously asked for my feedback, all while working efficiently. If you're looking for a new barber in this area or are from out of town, these guys will not disappoint.

Aaaaaaaah. A fine barbershop in the Bridgeport area…read more This was a true experience from booking to chair. Most men are committed to their barbers; as am I. However we're from NYC and the 2 hr. drive is daunting. So on my quest for a new barber, I found VIP and I will tell you, it is a true VIP experience. * Booking: I booked on the acuity scheduling site, it was quick and straightforward. After my appointment I learned there is an app where you can book and earn rewards. I received my first stamp at my first visit *Location: The shop is in a tiny strip mall with ample parking and other neighboring small business **The Feel*: Upscale and Welcoming...The shop is well put together, the owner thought through every stage of the customer experience and if you are someone who values quality and experience you will appreciate this shop. I cannot say enough for the feel in this one post. There were positive vibes all around, engaging conversation...one of the barbers even recommended a local pizza shop that just opened in downtown bpt. *The Cut: Of course, every barber is different however, I have confidence that whoever's chair you're in you will leave satisfied. I asked for a tape up and small design with Victor and I am satisfied. To note, all the barbers seem to be skilled; they will ask what you're looking for and even details. I heard one barber ask a guy if he wanted a round or square back, Vic asked me if I wanted pointed side burns. He even helped me choose design ideas. Good to Note: *Cash Only (nearby laundry has an ATM) *DL the app in the app store (VIP Barbershop LLC) *Choose any Barber (they all seem skilled) *Walk-Ins Welcome I appreciate small businesses that foster quality in the communities they serve and love to see them grow. Thanks VIP for the awesome experience!

It could use some updating...in fact, if you want to meet me there early some Saturday morning, we'll paint it. But what it is, is an old-school place, just like the one your grandfather took you to, and there are precious few experiences like that still out there, at least, in this corner of Fairfield County. The barbers are friendly and helpful. Russ, the owner, is especially patient with kids. Plenty of off-street parking right in front of the door, reasonable prices, and a great location, just off the beaten path but close to Route 8, the Parkway, and Barnum Avenue.
