Pasta King - The beer I had to buy myself in the shop next door, as the staff at Pasta king was too lazy

I highly recommend this place if you need an Italian food fix. Oh, and bring your friends who only want to order Filipino food, they have several tasty Pinoy dishes as well. Cheers, Pasta King. I will be back again and again! Keep up the great work!!

Like always the place is pretty dead, an indicator that even the locals figured out that this place is as much Italian as me being a Syrian immigrant. Like 2 years ago they were "out of stock" of gnocchi. So we ordered San Miguel Pilsen to start and look at the menu. With the main order of some soup and pizza I ordered another SMB. Waitress came back, sorry out of stock no beer anymore. Now having 3 waitresses staying around with 2 customers in the middle of the city where ALL shops are still open and no more than 1 - 5 minutes away, that should be no issue. But being bad managed and guided, of course nobody would move their a#$. So I went out and returned 4 minutes later with 4 ice cold beer. Paid 35Php a piece peso at the shop. The fake Italian restaurant sells it for 59 peso. That would be a profit of 96 Peso for 4 Minutes work. Hey, I would do that job for a living, but not lazy Pasta King staff. About the food... overpriced. Microwaved soup, Pizza was soso, for 399 peso I was expecting more. Throwing a truck load of arugula on it makes a nice color but does not cover up the greediness with all other toppings. Bottom line, it can't get much lower. I still give a point. 0.5 for the nice rear end of one waitress and 0.5 for the pepper mill, I really liked it.

Our friends who were also in Bohol recommended Giuseppe's. It was only a short hop by tricycle from the Bohol Beach Club so we decided to meet up there for dinner. I was planning to do a review so I started taking pictures, including their wood fired oven! Place was not busy when went on a Tuesday at 6pm, so we were shown to the private room next to the entrance with the full glass wall, which feels a bit like chef's room with all the wine, olive oil and other ingredients for making Italian food. Menu has many Italian staples, but I went for a pizza. I really like wood fired thin crust Italian ones, so I ordered a Quatro Stagioni and my kids picked the Diavoli. Both pizzas were flavorful, with crispy crust and deliciously melted cheese. The kids also ordered the Risotto Marinara, which looked nice and creamy without being watery, but the kids finished it off before I could get a taste. My wife had the fish soup, which was tomato based with pieces of fish, squid and clams. She also finished it before I could taste it and said it was good. ;) We also had the Carpaccio Di Manzo. The beef was well flavor with a nice bed of lettuce, topped by cheese and balsamic vinegar. For dessert we tried the Mango Panna Cotta, Tortino Di Cioccolata and Tiramisu. All three were delicious and light. After all that food we were stuffed! Unfortunately I was enjoying the meal and talking to our friends (joined us later) that I forgot to take more pictures. I wish we had more time in Panglao to try more of the menu. But if you are in the area please try Giuseppe's out!

Upon entry, you will be greeted by the bouncer who also serves as the ticket seller. Door fee is php80 with free drink (our that time was between rhum coke and vodka sprite, we chose the latter). Don't expect too much from the mix. Ours didn't taste like vodka sprite but for the price you pay, it's hard to fault the bar for offering sub-standard versions. Inside is a squarish-area with low ceiling. That made the place look smaller than it really is. The bar is to the left while the dj booth is on the right. There are several tall tables and quite a number of smaller ones. These are all for free as long as you get in early. I was told that they invite guest DJs every Saturday and the one playing that night was superb. Tunes are mostly Billboard Top 100 remixes. The crowd is a motley combination. There are locals (very easy to spot as they usually dress laid back), old, creepy foreigners, young foreigners, and college students. The older foreigners get in quite drunk so they're rowdier and creepier than normal. The club follows a strict dresscodes for men. No Sando / Sleeveless, no slippers. Shorts are okay though. Oh and you're only allowed to smoke outside. All in all, it was a pleasant experience. Definitely a step towards the right direction for Dumaguete. I just wish they can jack the price some more so unsavory locals can't get in and mess up the otherwise good crowd. I guess that's hard to do in Dumaguete where people are probably used to paying a smidge for almost everything.
